Dr. Buss issues a statement about Kobe

Dr. Buss has stepped up and spoken out on Kobe’s announcement of wanting to be traded:

Lakers.com: In response to inquiries regarding Kobe Bryant’s comments in the media today requesting a trade, Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss has issued the following statement:

“We are aware of the media reports. However, Kobe has not told us directly that he wants to be traded. We have made it very clear that we are building our team around Kobe and that we intend for him to be a Laker his entire career. We will speak directly to Kobe and until we do that, we will not comment publicly about this.”

Kobe: “I want to be traded, I know who the insider is and there is no turning back.”

From Kobe himself live on ESPN radio.

“I want them to do the right thing, they know what they did.”

Kobe revealed that he wants to be traded. He knows the “insider” who basically accused him soley for Shaq being traded. Kobe was frusterated and went on Steven A. Smith’s show and revealed this:

Yeah I’d like to be traded and as tough as it is to come to that conclusion, there is no other alternative.” Steven A. Smith asked him if there is anything the Lakers could do to prevent you from being traded, Kobe responded with, “NO!

ESPN has written a news story on this.

It’s crazy to me that a franchise will immediately trade future hall of famers, but play conservative and not bring in any stars, all-stars, or future hall of famers. They tell Kobe they’re building around him, yet putting youth around him & Phil. Quite the paradox.

Brown has surgery.

booyah!ESPN: Los Angeles Lakers center Kwame Brown underwent reconstructive surgery on his left ankle Tuesday and might not be ready for the start of training camp in October.

The Lakers said that while Brown is expected to make a complete recovery, he won’t return to playing status for a minimum of four months.

The operation was performed by Dr. David Porter in Indianapolis. Plans call for Brown to begin rehab in the next two weeks, and start running in six to eight weeks.

The 25-year-old Brown averaged 8.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and a career-best 1.2 blocked shots in 41 games last season. He missed the first seven games while recovering from an injured right shoulder and was healthy after that until severely spraining his left ankle Dec. 31, when he accidentally landed on the foot of Philadelphia’s Andre Miller after blocking a shot.

Brown sat out the next 27 games before returning to action, then missed seven more games because of pain in his ankle. He returned for the final two games of the regular season, then averaged 8.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in the Lakers’ first-round playoff series against Phoenix.

Time to Do the Unthinkable?

oooh yeah!!!Thanks to Jeff for sending us this article. Again, if you guys see anything Lakers related that you think deserves to be put up, just e-mail us at GetGarnett@gmail.com.

HOOPSWORLD.COM: It’s truly a difficult time for the Los Angeles Lakers. I’ve been trying to put a positive spin on what I see and hear, but it’s getting very difficult to comprehend exactly what is going down.

Kobe Bryant has been all over the place (radio, print, internet, etc) expressing his lack of faith in the Laker organization. He feels he was re-signed under false pretenses . . . that the team promised to build an immediate contender around him.

Instead the team embarked on their well documented and since defunct 2007 plan which entailed generating cap room for this very summer. They drafted a 17-year old kid and passed on available veterans that Bryant thought would be able to help the club (Carlos Boozer, Ron Artest, Baron Davis, etc). They also traded Caron Butler, his close ally, for the disappointing Kwame Brown.

Kobe: “I want US to contend for titles.”

Kobe was on AM570 this afternoon on the PMS show. Kobe made it clear, he wants to get this team back to an elite level. Kobe is still training, working hard waking up at 4:30 in the morning to improve.

He made it clear by stating that the front office is a mess right now with all the drama, but went on to say, “I want US to contend for titles.” Kobe wants to win in Los Angeles. Scrap BSPN, scrap the hater articles. This is from the man himself. More from KB24:

“I’m getting ready at 4:30 in the morning despite all of this.”

“I love this team, I LOVE this city.”

“There is nobody on this planet that thinks we can contend for a title with this current team.”

“I want US to contend for titles.”

“I’m not playing GM, all I said is for the GM to get in there and get us a contending team, NOW!”

“This is the truth, I want to see somebody from Lakers management go out there and say they weren’t building for a title instead of the future.”

Jerry Buss ARRESTED!

uuh grrra ragghhhNC Times: California Highway Patrol officers arrested the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers NBA basketball team early today on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in Carlsbad, authorities said.

Officer Tom Kerns of the California Highway Patrol said Gerald “Jerry” Hatten Buss, 74, of Playa del Rey in Los Angeles, was taken into custody shortly before 1 a.m. after driving his gold Mercedes-Benz station wagon the wrong way on Mountain View Drive, which has double yellow lines.

Kerns said Buss was “relatively cooperative” and didn’t try to resist when he was placed under arrest.

The officer said Buss was booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of drunken driving and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or above.

Shortly after noon Buss issued a statement through a Lakers’ spokesman.

“Although I was driving only a short distance, it was a bad decision and I was wrong to do it,” Buss said in the statement. “It was a mistake I will not make again.”

“Lakers ‘insiders’ all wrong”

Good times! The Truth (Kobe’s blog): Was up again, y’all. I saw an article this AM in the LA Times which said a Lakers’ “insider” noted that my wanting to “get away from Shaq” is what created this whole “mess” the Laker’s currently find themselves in.

Man, hearing something like that, which is not true, and which comes from the “inside” is totally frustrating. The fact of the matter is that many people don’t know what really went down when I was approaching free agency because I have stayed quiet about it this whole time.

The real facts are that Dr. Buss requested a meeting with me during the 04 season long before I opted out of my contract, and he told me he had already decided to not extend Shaq, as he was concerned about Shaq’s age, fitness and contract demands. Dr. Buss thought it was best for the Lakers to make a trade to get value for Shaq while they could.

Dr. Buss made it clear that his decision was final, his mind was made up and no matter what I decided to do with free agency he was still going to move Shaq.

DEALING WITH KOBE

da stinker! Thanks to Kris for sending us this article. Again, if you guys see anything Lakers related that you think deserves to be put up, just e-mail us at GetGarnett@gmail.com.

NEW YORK POST: ONE of the charms of being an embedded NBA correspondent over four decades is waking up each day and never worrying about groping or groveling (unlike the Spurs’ Jacque Vaughn after Deron Williams’ Game 3 cross-over faked him out of his Jacque) for subject matter.

There’s no offseason for the off-centered - segueing us smack into Kobe Bryant. Having momentarily picked up his dribble once his liquidated Lakers careened off the exit ramp after their customary one-round-and-done playoff appearance, he’s already back running his game on us.

Space constraints necessitate a synopsis:

Within the last 72 hours, Kobe, who cannot be traded without his approval, has vented his frustration with various West Coast reporters regarding his plight as a consistent championship pretender since the split with Shaquille O’Neal.
