Larry Coon helps answer this question. Thanks, Larry!
There is a 2PM Eastern deadline (11AM our time), but that’s just to freeze the order of teams picking — and the freeze is only for trades that include draft picks (i.e., trades that would affect the draft order). Once the draft commences, teams are free to make trades including picks, but it will be “Team A drafting for Team B” types of trades.
When draft trades do happen, teams usually wait until the pick is made, so they can be sure a player they want is still available. Once they agree, and the team drafts for the other team, the league is notified. At the draft, the league actually staffs their lawyers backstage for quick turnaround. The lawyers review the terms (using the RealGM trade checker), and if they approve it, it’s given to Stern to announce.
Should put you out of your misery. Only a few hours left…

NBA Draft 2008 Tonight!

Only one hour left…so let me guess. Another year the Lakers do nothing before the draft. Well at least they didn’t trade away Bynum and Lamar just to make a deal. I’d much rather they wait for the right deal then just make a deal. (Kwame for Caron).
i agree with you.its gonna be the same as old times…..
It really doesnt matter if we get him before or after the Draft, Hell id rather have him after the Draft then not have him at all
about 45 min left….do the trades have to be announced by 11 am?
does this mean on the draft tonight no deals will be done????
^^^deals will be done but its a deal where the player drafted is traded not the actual pick…for example i draft corey brewer then trade him for ray allen or something
Do something and do it now!
End this suspense once and for all!!!!!!!!
thank you kissofdeath
Like it says in the article few teams do it before. They wait to see if the player they want is available at the pick they’d be getting. It makes no difference as to weather they do it before or after. Team A either gets the pick and picks the player they want, or Team B picks whoever Team A told them to pick, and then trades them that player.
if the trade happens there not gonna tell us till the draft.

That is exctly how it works. Two teams make a deal. If player A is available Pick and snd we’ll give you Player B for player A. This should be an interesting Draft tonight. I think there will be a lot of trades that happen. Portland seems really interested in trading Randolph. So I suspect that will happen tonight. Though I’d keep Randolph. He could play the PF position where he is better suited to play anyways. A front court of Oden and Randolph would be pretty impressive
five minutes left
^^^they have lamarcus aldridge….so lamarcus and oden is gonna be crazy
Here is what the Lakers should do to get Garnett….IT WORKS!!!!!!!

Then you would have a two man team of Kobe and Garnett. As good as Kobe and KG are I don’t think they could Take on a 5 man team by themselves
11 o clock a deal hopefully a deal is done…when will we find out? before draft or during?
well, Magic J still got at least a year left in him
guys its 11 no deal was done we’re screwed
