Lakers were right there for KG. Now begins “Phase Two” as Mitch explains it. I like the sound of it, Lakers are after KG and we seem very aggresive. Go “Get Garnett” Mitch!
PE.com: Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said he “thought we got close” to making something happen.
“But until you have a deal that’s approved, you don’t have a deal,” he said Thursday. “At times we thought we were pretty close here in the last couple of weeks. But here it is draft day, and the deal that we hoped we could get done, we did not get done. But it’s just Phase One. We start again tomorrow and work through the summer.“
Mitch likes current roster to start the season

Phil & Mitch apologize to Odom for a local newspaper suggesting he will be shopped
Is Mitch Kupchak Really to Blame?
Bryant hasn’t spoken to Mitch?
OH MY GOD!
I don’t think the Lakers can offer a better deal than phase one.
do it mitch just get it done
I don’t think the Lakers can offer a better deal than phase one.
Well, do we know exactly what was offered?
Finally, Mitch has said something encouraging to the fans. At least the first part was logical. If a deal did not take place then it did not happen. If the lakers are going to start phase two according to what he calls it, here is a ray of light. I am not sure what is he going to do, hopefully stubborn Mchale will come around.
Yes we know what was offered in phase one. It was Odom, Bynum, and a draft pick.
Trust me i just found a fourth team to complete the deal. its all about the faith…
Yes we know what was offered in phase one. It was Odom, Bynum, and a draft pick.
No that was not the offer!! The salaries don’t match up!!
- Mitch has been on the phone for 3 weeks except for draft night (after failed trade occurs)-(Jim Gray)
- Reports say Sunday talks will open up for KG again
- Mitch comfirms it
I love the aggresiveness…
Who Is It Mitch?
Yeah that is what was offered, click on PE.com at the beginning of this article and read what it says. it states clearly that Odom, Bynum and a draft pick was what was offered to the wolves for Garnett.
GO MITCH. MITCH MITCH HES OUR MAN IF HE CANT DO IT THEN WE’RE ******.
Who Is It Mitch?
wow. just plain wow.
You would need to include Kwame to make that deal work. With the salaries.
Sorry Silo Stupid Question. Are We Cool?
Who Is It Mitch?
I don’t want to blow the deal by giving to much detail but the lakers fans will all be happy
Laker4Life
Do You Think The Wolves Will Probably Put In Jaric And Hudson In The Deal?
someone get mcfail’s phone number so we can show him a little la love! lol harass his ass all week
All Right Cool.
STUPID MITCH JUST GET IT OVER WITH AND DO IT AND BOOM KG AND KOBE ALL NEXT SEASON BABY!

does the truth hurt? dont be a hater!!!
Sorry Silo Stupid Question. Are We Cool?
yeah man. i just cant believe you dont know who mitch is.
Thats there cap relief. Kwames contract is 9mil and expires next year. That gives the Wolves money to sign someone. With that money. What the wolves didnt like about the deal was Odom’s 2year contract thats why Lakers tried to get Boston involved and trade Odom and Bynum to Indiana and Boston was suppose to give up Al Jefferson to the Wolves in return for Oneal. Boston Didnt want to give him up and thats why were still here talking about this. So Mitch needs to find someone to take Odom and give the wolves a player or an expiring contract that the wolves want in addition to Bynum and the 19th pick, or Farmer. They have to sweeten the pot so to speak and make the wolves take the deall!!!!!!!!!! Come on Mitch be creative!!!!!!!
How the hell am I being a hater. you’re the one messing with all of us by pretending like you’re Mitch. Stop {Profanity isn't allowed on theLakersNation.com -- Please go back and edit your comment. Thank you.}en toyin’ with us, that is all I am saying.
I banned the poser — Hopefully, this somehow cleans up the comments a bit.
as it looks we are the best team to get Kg if not the only team.i hope it happens soon cuz the sooner we get it done the easier it will be for kupchak to get players to surround them like hill and webber and mle
I banned the poser — Hopefully, this somehow cleans up the comments a bit.
thanks jim.
GO MITCH GO!!!
I swear if mitch somehow gets KG in LAKER uniform he’ll never ever be remember as the dumb GM that trade caron for kwame and signed idiots like vlade and trade Shaq…he’ll be known as the man that saved a franchise and KOBE!!!!…please Mitch get it done…the suspense is killin me!!!…KG KG KG KG KG!!! KOBE KOBE KOBE KOBE = MVP!!!!
Silo I Was Just Saying Who Is The Fourth Team That What I Mean But It Is A Stupid Question To Ask. But I Do Know Who Mitch Is.
Like every other laker fan i love the fact that were pursuing kg but we dont have all the time in the world come fall if we have not got someone major to supplement kb we will have a very upset kb, a) theres no way to get that star w/o dealing odom b) theres no way to get kg w/o dealing odom … hence if we keep waiting and never take the deal to land a kidd or jo were gonna be major screwed… and that would be mitch’s fault … we cant lay all our eggs in one basket
J-cool
I think getting troy hudson would definalty be a good move you would need to give up another player or two to make the salaries work. I think the wolves would like to include hundson to get rid of his contract. Troys making 5.6 mil a year on a 4 year contract. Marco wouldnt be a bad move either. Macro is making about the same. So either or would be cool but to do both you would have to come up with 10 mil in salaries to match. Might be difficult.

oh my bad dawg. so uh . . . whats to eat?
i think if the trade goes though, we’d be giving up either farmar or javaris in the deal as well. who do you think would be better for us to keep?
I Think Javaris Would Be Better For Us To Keep Because He Ran The Triangle Offense In High School. That Why We Drafted Another PG.
Who cares who is better your getting KG!!!!!!!!!1
i dont know. i really like farmar. i would rather trade javaris since hes new.
Who ever the wolves want. If they want Farmer serve him up on a Silver plater its not like hes Jason kIDD!!!!!!!!
Dont get me wrong I like the kid he has talent and he will be a good player. But if he is standing in the way of us getting KG, run his ass over!!!!!!
they both know the triangle….but at least we know what we have in farmar. javaris is bigger, right?

I like that. Run is ass over.lol.
sounds like something kobe would say pissed off.
KG 2 LA BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THX MITcH
i t’s a hard choice..but hey ur getting kg!!!
although iwould be really pissed if we trade farmar and he becomes the next j-kidd or vise-versa!
Thank Ray For That But I Still Think Farmar Is The Odd Man Out Also Because They Will Be Signing A Veteran PG. The Wolves Want Youth In Their Team So Bynum, Odom, And Farmar Will Be Gone.

lol i think javaris is better overall bigger knows triangle finisher i like farmar also but i would pick up javaris to keep

LETS SEE HOW JAVARIS DOES THOUGH. IF HE CAN RUN THE FLOOR, MAKE GREAT PASSES AND SHOOTS WELL, HE MAYBE THE ONE STAYING.
well, i guess thats the chance you take when trading for a big name like garnett
I wonder how much Chicago and Dallas are willing to give up…they have some attractive pieces. Plus, I don’t think anyone wants us to have KG and Kobe together. It’ll be interesting.

yup.
kobe and kg blockers.
I’d take either Javaris our Farmar at this point. Javaris has more potential, but I’d have to see if he can match Farmar’s intensity before I could decide on him.

I mean I’d take Javaris OR Farmar
We dont need a great passing point. All you need is KG and kobe everyone else just needs to defend well. The Point needs to be a good defender not a good passer. If you watch laker games. The only reason we lose is because we cant keep anyone under 100 points. We score enough points even with the scrubs on this current roster. What we need is to be able to stop other teams from scoring if we can do that Kobe and KG will take care of the points. Quote me on that!!!!!!!!!!
its not so much that other teams don’t want kg and kobe together, its just that they don’t want to help the lakers, no matter what players are involved. every team, and their fans all HATE los angeles and the lakers. however, we still sell out THEIR arenas when we play there. year after year! and the nba would LOVE to have garnett here because of all the added ratings. everyone hates us, but they love watching us!!!
another look, just to get our KG mojos going. this man deserves to be on a winning team.

i keep watching it over and over, and the more i watch it, the more i want him as a laker =)

I totally agree with you. When I say they don’t want to see KG and KB together, that’s exactly what I mean. They hate the Lakers, and they know how devastating that combo would be.
you’re exactly right, ‘LAKER4LIFE’. being a passing point guard isn’t necessary…..look at tony parker! he’s no where near being a steve nash type
Who is this guy? Did Kupcheck fall and hit his head or something? I hope he makes it happen.
I agree. He would bring a face to the organization, Good Values, Loyalty that is rare now days. He is a true warrior and deserve a chance to play for the best team in the NBA, the LAKERS. He represent everything that I love about this game. What passion, What Desire, What Determination. What a leader. What a Player. KG AND KOBE= Championship!!!!!!! “Build it and they will come!!!”
you’re exactly right, ‘LAKER4LIFE’. being a passing point guard isn’t necessary…..look at tony parker! he’s no where near being a steve nash type
I’m not sure I completely agree with you guys. I agree that whatever point guard we take needs to have good defense, but imagine a point that could create for Kobe and KG. That would be nasty. And I know you were just making an example, but Tony Parker is valuable for his scoring more than his D.
I think jarvis would be better against guards in the west ……parker,nash,williams,paul,terry,jack…..he would be a handfull for the smaller guards and he is quick….farmar seems a little small although he has a vertical leap just over 40 inches….i think the reason we went after another guard is because teams probably asked for farmar when they had trade talks with other teams…….btw….for kobe to be this quiet something has to be going on..
i meant tht parker is not a passing point guard
Champoinships are won with D. not O. We have the best Closer in the Game “KB” You need stops. Look at the Spurs. They score 80 points and still win!!!!!!!! Im not saying a point that could score wouldnt help of course it helps but its not as important as D. Thats what kills us. We can stop the guards going down the middle. We stop that and we keep our big men in the game, keep them out of foul trouble. This allows us to stay big and rebound. One and out.
you’re right. kg is good for at least 12-14 boards a night. imagine if we could keep odom!!
i meant tht parker is not a passing point guard
Oh I see. My fault. I’m glad to see GetGarnett back in full force. We were losing faith there for a while.
Cant need to trade his salary. KG makes to much money. I would love to keep LO but theres no possible way.
yeah, losing odom is sad, especially if we become the contender we all hope to be, and he won’t be part of it. but thats the business

This is great!!!! It has Kobe working out and KG talking!!!! They both work hard not because they have to but because they want to. Thas how there built!!!!!!!!
What a dynamic duo we could have!!!!

You’re right. I’m just saying that it’s not as clear cut as you’re trying to make it sound. Phil and Mitch keep saying we still need a “good ball handling point guard”, not a defensive point guard. Defense wins games, but the Spurs that you mentioned are great because of TEAM defense. Like I said, Tony Parker doesn’t have great D. If we had a defensive point guard who couldn’t pass, we wouldn’t be filling all of our needs.
True We cant fill all our needs. Except it. You fill in gaps with hussle hardwork and determination. Let the stars pick up the slack and let the role players do there jobs. You said it yourself its team defense. Im not saying you need an absolute defensive wizard at point, just someone that will work there ass off like D fish did when he was here. He wasnt the most talented point, but he left it all on the floor every night thats the type or player we need!!!! A bit more athletic would be nice too.
Say we did get KG. What’s the future plans? Is he content to sign an extension?
Thats part of the deal any team that trades for him he is asking for the extension as part of the deal.

Well, teh spurs play great team d.
And remember the triangle doesnt need a real point guard.
might i remind you that we won a ring as ron harper as our point guard.
I can ACCEPT that. You first said that we need a point guard who can defend, and not necessarily pass. I agreed, and added that well, ball handling is important too. You say that others can pick up slack for lack of handling skills, but it also goes for defense. If we have a sick ball handler with average D, the TEAM defense can still get it done. I was never disagreeing with you on the defensive theme. You just kept going in circles.

Didn’t I just say that the Spurs have great team D? And when did I say that defense doesn’t matter? I agreed defense was more important. I was just trying to put it out there to IMAGINE what it would be like to have a great ball handler, maybe like Chris Paul. Ron Harper was a great fit for the triangle. But we can have a little creativity sometimes, can’t we?

we dont need a passing point guard. Derek Fisher nor Lindsey Hunter were passing point guards. They were shooters. Besides in the triangle the ball is constantly moving. if the ball is in one players hands for more teh 4seconds then he is holding the ball to long.
