We Should Be Fine

Special thanks to Raphael Rossellini for writing this take and giving us the privilege to add it to GetGarnett.com. Again, if you guys see anything Lakers related that you think deserves to be put up, just e-mail us at GetGarnett@gmail.com.

It is a sad day in Lakerland for many, we fans have waited years, YEARS, to land Garnett, but he now will reside in Boston, it is official.

However, there is still something that some have not considered, something, that will make us feel better…

Why should we gut our team to get Garnett? If we had to trade for Garnett straight up, it would have to be Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, Kwame Browm, Jordan Farmar, Mo Evans, and several picks, does that sound fair? Of course not,we would be gutted, GUTTED!

What would happen if Kobe’s ankle gets twisted again? could we rely on Garnett, because Garnett with no Kobe is not much better than what he had in Minnesota.

What can be worse than losing Garnett? It would definatly be him going to our arch rivals in the east, the Celtics. What seemed impossible after Garnett said “NO” to being traded to the Celtics, he changed his mind with the newly added Ray Allen, and he would take kind to the idea of being traded there, and, it was the inevitable. Boston had many young players and a fat expiring contract of Theo Ratliff but it seems like the deal couldn’t have been done without the young and promising Al Jefferson.

KG on Kobe & Lakers – Why he didn’t go there

You can tune in to the entire KG press conference on NBA.com. He had this to say about the Lakers, Kobe, and why he didn’t goto Los Angeles:

” I didn’t really consider LA because the whole Kobe situation is up in the air…”

Lakers among teams who made a last-ditch efforts in for KG

The moral of this story: you can’t say they didn’t try. Problem is trying is one thing, completing a deal is another. West completed deals, post-West, they’ve “tried.” Remember Kupchak’s words of wis-dumb, “there is no magical wand you can wave.”

dumbdummer.jpgNY Daily News: Kevin Garnett’s deal with Boston includes a five-year, $105 million extension, according to sources, which means that over his career Garnett has signed three separate contracts worth $100-plus million.

It’s also bad news for both the Knicks and Nets, two Atlantic Division teams that have coveted Garnett for years.

Dallas, Chicago, Cleveland and the Lakers all made last-ditch efforts to acquire Garnett before losing out to Boston. The Knicks were told last month that they didn’t have the assets to land Garnett, which has to be a bitter pill for Thomas to swallow.

It also didn’t hurt the Celtics that Danny Ainge and Kevin McHale have been boys for years. The joke among league GM’s is that McHale only talks to two or three executives and in fact this is the second major deal McHale has orchestrated with his old team.

As the heartbeat of all Lakers fans came to a flat line today, the city of Boston has begun to rejoice in their ceremonious Celtic ways once again. If you thought that landing Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen were big, don’t forget that Beantown also picked up Randy Moss and Eric Gagne as well. That my friends is a hell of an offseason for a city.

As for the City of Angels, the Lakers have officially become the Make-A -Wish franchise by overpaying for Derek Fisher and signing up cancer survivor Coby Karl as our 18th point guard. I’ve literally been sick all day just thinking about our inept front office and how the one player that the Lakers franchise and fans have been waiting for the last 3-4 seasons is now a Celtic. For the first time, the T’Wolves actually considers taking offers for KG, and what does the Lakers FO do? Wait. Leave the initial deal on the table and wait.

KG: “I am excited to become a Celtic”

garnett_pierce_allen300184.jpg

KG has finally spoken. He’s looking to add to his legacy:

Celtics.com: “I am excited to become a Celtic,” Garnett said. “It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to play with players the quality of Paul (Pierce) and Ray (Allen). The Celtics have had a proud tradition and now I hope that we can add to the legacy.”

Some Dreams Do Not Come True

Our fellow friend and blogger over at Forum Blue And Gold wrote this piece. Great piece on the departure of the KG dream from Lakers fans ’round the world.

Forum Blue And Gold: Part of being a fan is thinking with your heart, dreaming of the improbable, maybe the impossible. And Lakers fans fascination with Kevin Garnett was always based on thinking with their hearts, because once your head got involved the dream was quickly shattered.

RealGM: KG will wear #5 for Boston

kg_5.jpegRealGM has learned Kevin Garnett will wear #5 with his new team and home, the Boston Celtics:

RealGM: With Kevin Garnett heading to Boston, his days of wearing number 21 are over since the Celtics have retired it in order to honor Hall of Famer Bill Sharman.

Jeff Twiss of the Celtics has informed RealGM that it appears Garnett will wear #5.

KG News Conference Set For 5:30

The press conference is scheduled. Should be interesting to say the least.

FoxSports: According to Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss, the 10-time NBA All-Star will likely be introduced at a news conference at 5:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

KG will never wear #21 again, in Boston that is

KG has a problem, where 21 would’ve looked very nice in the purple and yellow, they have retired that number in Boston. His second and third choices, #1 & #2, also retired. What will the new era of KG represent? Stein speculates on his future number:

ESPN: If there’s a more superstitious player in the NBA than Garnett, I’m struggling to picture him. But Garnett, remember, is about to join the franchise that has retired 21 numbers, including KG’s trademark No. 21. He’s going to have to change numbers whether he wants to or not.

Word is Garnett’s first three choices with his new team were Nos. 21, 1 and 2. But all three have been retired by the Celts: No. 21 for Bill Sharman, No. 1 for franchise founder Walter Brown and No. 2 for Red Auerbach.

Official Blockbuster – KG “officially” traded

It was a hell of a run. Millions of fans tuned in to our cause, and while it ended like this, we here at GetGarnett.com say thank you. Kevin Garnett has been officially traded to the Boston Celtics, July 31, 2007.

ESPN: The largest trade for any one player in NBA history has been completed. And while fans in Minnesota may feel left out in the cold, expect the party to begin in Boston with Kevin Garnett’s arrival.
