MSNBC: Derek Fisher is interested in playing with the New York Knicks because he could be near his ill daughter, the Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger reported Wednesday.
But a return to the Los Angeles Lakers is more likely, Fisher’s agent, Mark Bartelstein said, the newspaper reported.
Fisher’s 11-month-old daughter has been undergoing treatments at a New York hospital for retiniblastoma, a cancerous tumor in her eye.
The Utah Jazz agreed to release Fisher from his contract Monday so he can concentrate on finding the best care for his daughter, Tatum.
Bartelstein spoke to Knicks assistant general manager Glen Grunwald on Tuesday, the Star-Ledger reported.
The chances of Fisher joining the Knicks aren’t too good because the team has 17 players under contract and is set at guard, the newspaper reported.
“It’s all very preliminary,” Bartelstein said, the Star-Ledger reported. “Obviously, Derek would have a lot of interest in New York.”
Are the Knicks interested in Garnett?

MAN I REALLY HOPE WE CAN BRING BACK D.FISH
HE WOULD BE A BIG HELP IN THE BACK COURT ALONG SIDE KOBE.
ALSO HE CAN GIVE FARMAR AND CRITTENTON A FEW POINTERS ON HOW TO PLAY IN THE TRIANGLE.
Dang, Memphis is ALSO interested in Fisher:

Nice article from CNNSI about Sun Yue:

sooo wat his agent said hes most likely to come here WOOOOOOOTT yes bring the fish back
i dont think fisher wantsa go to memphis…this is what memphis wants….plus fisher would wanna go to a team that has a city with doctors that will treat Tatum’s cancer tumor…i think by the end of the day D.Fish will either retire or become a laker…cause the Knicks are too full…
There is no way Fisher signs with the Knicks. The Knicks have enough gaurds as it is. They have 17 players under cotract, and last I checked a team is only allowed to have 15 on the team, but they could have players under contract that play in the D- League. Fisher will, without a doubt, be a laker this season.
This article is a great read on Fisher and what makes him such a class act:

If Fisher plays he will be a Laker. No room in NY, No money in LA. He has no choice.
Hmm, I’m beginning to think all this talk about other cities by Fisher’s agent is being done to drive up the cost for the Lakers to sign Fisher.
This is just a filler news post. Even in the article, Fisher’s agent said he’d most likely return to Lakers, on top of the fact that New York has an abundant amount of point guards and no cap room at all.
So what I’m saying is, is the getgarnett deal not going anywhere at all that the site needs to post “news” that really isn’t news and doesn’t really back up the title?
KG needs to quit being a {Profanity isn't allowed on theLakersNation.com -- Please go back and edit your comment. Thank you.} and take action. All he has to do is say, “If I’m traded to any team other than the Lakers, I will opt out next season.” Therefore, leaving Minnesota with no options but to trade him to Lakers, or risk not getting anything back for Garnett. He has heart, but no balls and no brain.
this is off topic, but if gwb would legalize stem cell research, dfish’s daughter could get a new eye replacement. and dfish can just concentrate on playing ball. i dont think he has the mind set to play basketball with the sistuation he is in. he should take time off and focus on his daughter making her his no.1 priority like he said. the lakers as is, are already full of drama; i dont think we need anymore for next season.
fisher, farmar and javaris, kobe and mo, sun yue would be a good backcourt
sun yue isnt gonna play for us this season, most likely
Adult stem cell research is legal - get informed. The U.S. Gov’t just won’t pay for research on embryonic stem cells. Embryonic cells are all hype and have yet to be proven to effective.
Back on topic - Fisher, if he decides to play which I think he will, is the best alternative out there now. The triangle does not need a typical point guard and is a very complicated offense to grasp. Fisher’s intangibles, as already discussed by others, is another strong reason to bring him in. What could Blake offer? Steve Francis is a disaster waiting to happen.
If the KG deal happens, I suspect Farmar will be gone in the deal. Thus, Fisher can help Crittendon’s development as well as provide needed leadership.
If the lakers dont get fisher they cant get blake because he 6 mill a year.

Normally I would agree with that, but if we trade 1/3 of the team to get garnett, he might actually have a chance to make it, because we might not be able to afford to bring enough players in thru FA
D-Fish, for your own welfare don’t: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yTjebH2fLU

Jimmi M., good post on Garnett, he has to develop into a NBA Man, he still comes across as “boy”, it is time for him to grow. This is why he oould never be the #1 guy (a Batman), KG will be a great “Robin”, but leave the Batman to Kobe!!!!
Get Derek Fisher back. give him the full MLE. I was saying this even before Fish left the Jazz. The Lakers should have their heads examined for ever letting him go. Fish was arguably their best player after Shaq & Kobe. I would rather the Lakers get Fish back than any other free agents. The Lakers weakest position is at point guard, and during the Laker’s 3 championships, no one on the Lakers played that position better. Besides, the triangle offense doesn’t need a true point guard anyway. Spending a ton of money trying to get someone like Kidd or Nash would be a waste. GET FISH!!!
