Fisher “sure-thing” to resign with Lakers!

fisher_derek0513.jpgMark Stein’s latest from ESPN. From the sound of it, sounds like Fisher will indeed resign with the Lakers! There were other reports (out of Cleavland for example) saying that Fisher has lost interest in those other teams. This is GREAT NEWS for Lakers fans. Being a huge fan of D-Fish, I can’t wait to have him back…

ESPN: Call them virtual sure-thing favorites now.

Fisher, according to NBA front-office sources, is no longer even considering other teams and is on track to re-sign soon with the Lakers — who drafted him in 1996 — barring an unexpected snag in negotiations.

this feeling is better than .4 buzzer beater by that laker guard against san antonio, forgot his name….. SIIIIIKEEE..

2. LD2k says:

I would love to resign Fisher. I remember talking with friends and family last playoff about Fish and the floor general that he is.

We could use heart like that – almost a polar opposite from Smush who played good, but never showed that type of emotion. I want that emotion.

Also, Fisher back in L.A. could be a GREAT sign of things to come…

3. THeGreatOnekb&kg says:

putting one peace of the lakers old puzzle back together is a great idea for the LAKERS. Mitch please don’t let this one go, get Fish back NOoOOoWWWWWW!!!!……and Ron ARtest

“Get it done Mitch..do somethin and do it NOW”

4. LAKERS FAN 4EVER says:

DEREK FISHER WELCOME HOME!!!!!

7. Joe says:

Smush was crying toward the end because of what? he wanted to start? So lame!

Fisher is the ultimate teammate and a great role model.

I can not say this about any other player on the current Lakers team…Fisher is not lucky to be a Lakers … The Lakers are lucky to have Fisher.

8. joe pal says:

the lakers should sign sean paladino

9. kb4pres says:

get artest for kwame/walton….trade odom/bynum for j’oneal

pg-fish
sg-24
c-o’neal
sf-artest
pf-turiaf

sounds like a contender!!!!

THE FISH is BACK!!!!!

11. Fishfan says:

Yea boy! Good to have Fisher back. Not only a solid player but a great person. My prayers go out to his daughter and family.

12. lakerfreak says:

yes d fish was always my favporite during the championship years and finally gives us a point guard

13. punkjones says:

I would love to see the Fish back! Hoping he does come here. Still won’t believe it till I see it as with all FA signings and trades. But, yeah, like all have said, he’d be the perfect fit to guide Farmar and Critt, make big 3’s, bring some vet savvy, and smooth away any bad vibes in the locker room. Fish is the consumate pro, and he’ll make everyone better. Great positivity and class. We love you Fish!

14. KBisDarthVader says:

i love dfish. he is on of my all-time favorite lakers, probably my #1 still playing in the league. i was baffled that we didnt make him a reasonable offer (which he would have taken, even for less $$$) when his contract ended, especially since the front office knew (i hope?) they would ship GP out. i would love for d fish to retire as a laker.

that said, i’m not sure signing fish is a good move given the current state of affairs. yes, he is an instant upgrade on the court and in the locker room (much needed). but what is his contract going to look like? the mle for 5 years? IF we are bringing in KG or JO (or Gasol??), then d fish is perfect. but if we can’t get a deal done that will make us a contender, do we want to be saddled with another overpriced contract when kobe forces a trade next offseason or opts out the season after that? farmar should be starting two seasons from now, which means we would be using our MLE on a backup point guard for a couple years…maybe a couple of years in which we need to be able to pull of sign-n-trades or chase big money free agents.

like i said i would love to see d fish in purple and gold again…but only if we are making the neccesary moves to become a contender within the next two seasons. if not, we will be stuck with a bunch of bad contracts (cook, vlad, fish, etc.) and a pissed off kobe…a bad spot to be in.

15. Fatty says:

I think Fish felt all the good feelings coming from LA and decided to come home. I don’t think it was anything Mitch did. You have to give credit where credit is due, and that would be Fish. He’s a fan like us and wants to help build this team back to glory.

Go Fish ! Go Lakers !

16. Fatty says:

How much will he sign for? By letting go of his agent, it might seem to indicate that Fish will sign for Vet Min. Why do you need an agent for a league mandated price?

Fish surely could’ve gotten more from the Lakers. Did he agree to take less so the Lakers would have the MLE in reserve for somebody else? If that turns out to be true, I will buy a Fish Jersey and wear it proudly in Arizona.

17. Fatty says:

Joe
The Lakers are lucky to have Fisher.

Amen to that

19. mlkg721 says:

No disrespect to anyone, but are you all crazy? Derek fisher? Dfish is a good dude and all, but his game has really declined and hes 33 years old. We need to stop tryin to build around the triangle, and build around Kobe. When was the last time the lakers went after an actual athlete..oh wait, it was caron butler,a nd we trade him For KWAME BROWN. My laker homies, lets not be blinded by memories and use basketball logic here. I would rather take a risk on Steve Francis than d fish. Francis is younfer and mych mor athletic and can get his own shot. If the miracle happens of us getting garnett, then the fisher signing is cool, but if we dont get another high caliber player to play with the BEST IN THE GAMEm then that signing doesn’t mean a thing. Just my 2 cents

20. KBisDarthVader says:

fish for the vets min would be an absolute STEAL. but i dont know about that, he left over 20 million on the table by leaving utah, im sure he wants to make up some of that loss…i got 5 on it!

21. Brandon says:

Great move by the Lakers GM here. They are getting a floor general who knows the triangle offense and can knock down open jumpers. He gets along well with Kobe, and, is not afraid to step up and say something. Instant upgrade over Smush Parker and DFish brings something that the Lakers lacked last year, character. He is a great character guy and a great teammate. This signing, if everything works out, should be a jumpstart for the Lakers offseason moves.

22. Big D says:

I can think of no greater gift to the Lakers (and to us fans) than to have Fish fall in our lap for the vet. min.

And I fully agree with Fatty, it was the love he was feeling that brought him back. Only thing that pisses me off is I know somehow Mitch is going to come off smelling like roses if Fish indeed signs for the minimum.

Oh and I have found luck tends to come in twos and threes, so focus all your good thoughts on KG fellas…hell maybe McHale will get upset that he is about to be fired soon and send us KG just “to show them who got the last laugh” (which will be us of course).

23. Mofag/t says:

26. LAKobe4Life says:

YYYYEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m getting alittle teary here. We’re gonna welcome him with open arms, Where’ve you been all my life Derek Fisher? KG is NEXT.

27. TheFaze says:

I hope on July 11th, we all hear the news of the Lakers resigning Fish. People harp on his age, but what of Ron Harper when he helped us out to two championships? Fish will provide the leadership and toughness a championship team needs.

I just can’t believe we wasted two years with Smush at the point. Argh….

Would it be too much to hope for the Lakers getting Rick Fox out of retirement? lol :P

28. Ciek says:

This move is just enough to keep kobe content for another year.

29. mlkg721 says:

lol i didnt see this article, so i posted it in the other article =(

31. mR.beaSt says:

Perfect for the Lakers. He is an experienced PG that has led one team to 3 championships and another team to the Western Conference Finals. If he plays about 30 min. a game, that could loosen up the bench PGs (Javaris/Farmar/Yue) to average about 15 or more min. a game between them. The playing time of the bench PGs can help the Lakers choose which one is the best to be the next great Laker

32. Jeremy Nakazawa says:

it great hear that fish is going back to the lakers i loved him when he was with the lakers and i always love him for the 0.4 shot him made and it great new for the lakers now we need to garnett and lakers are for sure in the playoffs and passed the first round and second round and i hope fish sign for the vet min so we can have min con still and when can get a good center lakers for sure champs of 2008 if the get garnett and get artest. well i wish good luck for fish family and he’s daughter
we i hope she get better it great to have you back fish

33. mlkg721 says:

I just dont see it. I think we’re signing Fish on based on emotions and not basketball sense. This is a business, and I personally dont like this as the first move we made this off season. If this move is coupled with Artest, and J.O, or the miracle we’re all lookin for in KG, then I dont think it does much. Are team needs a lot of help people. I would’ve preferred francis, someone capable of actually getting their own shot. Dont be blinded by the past

34. Ed24 says:

Stop fucken talking about Artest. ESPN just reported that Ron Artest and Management have agreed not to trade Artest. Artest said that he is going to retire a King. There is no fucken way we are going to get Artest, just stop mentioning his name.

35. wasay shahid says:

I think the Lakers should sign mo williams instead of fisher mo averaged 17 ppg. But even if we get fisher its good news. Any thing besides Smush would work for us LMAOO.

36. 2joekbschmoe4 says:

AHH i am getting more and more optimistic about next season, with the liability known as smush “fudge packer” parker gone, farmar will develop, with a leader like fish, farmar, yue and crinttenton should learn to become stellar pg’s. I want the kg deal bad, but if nothin happens in the next few months the lakers should go for pao gasol, he wants to play for a real team, i would give lo and kwame for pao, IMAGINE!!! FISH, KB, MoEVANS, LUKE,PAO/BYNUM

37. Darkblaze says:

Earlier I sent an article to the GetGarnett.com staff, which I’m not sure if more people have seen or not, but it clearly states that Ron Artest will not be traded breaking up all rumors thus far. How true it is I’m not too sure but they have some stuff quoting Artest himself where he mentions he wants to be the Kings Franchise Player. He also mentions how he can’t leave friends he made with his teammates and how money isn’t important (he says he can’t complain making 8-9 mill next season). So all this talk of a possible Artest trade to Lakers, according to this article, was just all a RUMOR. The owner including supposedly said people were just talking to themselves, that Artest was never mentioned for a trade.

This was the article: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2931266

This move would make perfect basketball sense. A veteran with championship experience who has great defense and can hit an open jump shot. What more do you want?

39. Darkblaze says:

As for Mo Williams, it looks as though he will take less money and sign with Miami. A fake East franchise, but it seems Miami might be winning the Williams sweepstakes.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2931039

40. Darkblaze says:

Of course all this coming from BSpn.com but at least the Artest article seems pretty real. As for Williams, it does look likely he’ll be wearing a Heat uniform this season.

41. BringDFishBack says:

First and most importantly, we need to all wish his daughter Tatum well because latest reports say she isn’t doing well and only has a slim chance of living.

Second, I have wanted fish back since I heard on the 405 he signed with GS. And yes, I made this name on here before i had any clue he wanted out of utah, so im amazed it might be coming true.

Finally, lets not call this a sure thing yet. “barring an unexpected snag in negotiations” If there is one person would mess this up, its Kupchak. If there is one situation that would have something come up preventing it from happening, its this one.

42. mlkg721 says:

I saw that eapn article, and I’ve also seen that same talk from GMs and players publically just to see them look like liears and end up trading a player or end up being traded. As for Mo williams, he wants more money and wants to sign witha contender, not a team with their heads above ater trying to hit a homerun to land a superstar cuz all their moves since the shaq tade have been horrible. All I’m sayin is that dont look at what fisher did 4 years ago for us and think the lakers are saved cuz we signed him. But then again, anything is an upgrade over Smush

43. BringDFishBack says:

Also, think about the things he could do to J-Farm and Javaris. You guys all saw what Deron did last year. In my opinion, he wouldn’ have done anywhere near as good if he didnt learn from D.Fish.

44. Jimmy M. says:

Welcome back, pimp.

The reason he did not resign with us was due to the fact that he thought Payton would still be the main point guard and have more playing time, but Kupchak traded Payton to Celtics. Nobody bothered telling Fisher that so he would’ve remained?

looking back, that was a huge blunder by Lakers front office, but hey, what’s new.

45. mlkg721 says:
This move would make perfect basketball sense. A veteran with championship experience who has great defense and can hit an open jump shot. What more do you want?
All that is vrey true, and Fish does have solid D. But if i had to choose between Fish and Francis, I would probably roll with francis. But i dont want to jump the gun on this too much. For me, it really depends on what other moves they make to solidify the team. I think we should take a look at james posey as well to add some more veteran hel and defens

46. Kenny says:

48. 24thanextlegend says:

D Fish vs Francis is comparing peas to carrots!! WTH has “Franchise” done in this league? Exactly! Now what has Fish accomplished? Thank you..case closed! .04 for life babyyyyy!!!

49. LakerNation1 says:

that should be D-Fish’s new jersey number. .04

i love that guy

50. Robert says:

Fisher only shot 38% from the floor this year. That’s horrible! He plays hard and plays good defense, but that shooting percentage is terrible.

Check out this important website, by the way: http://www.mostholyfamilymonastery.com my personal favorite. Very important free videos to watch online on various very important topics.

51. BringDFishBack says:

looking back, that was a huge blunder by Lakers front office, but hey, what’s new.
Actually, thats not really close to what happened. Free Agency opened and Payton used his player option and signed on for 1 more year. Fish then went and signed with GS. After that, Shaq went to Miami. Payton was pissed about that because he wanted to play with Shaq and asked to be traded. Payton was then traded away to the celts.

So when fish left no one had any idea of the things that would follow.

52. Darius says:

I think this is a good move if we sign DFish. I mean really we need a veteran point guard and when you look at the market right now there is no one that either get’s you excited to have them on your team or within our price range. Not to mention you bring back a guy who knows the triangle and now Javaris and Farmar have someone in front of them that can teach them. Yes, he is 33 years old and isn’t as quick as he used to be but he knows how to play the game and he knows how to deal with other point guards like Nash and Parker.

53. nyla says:

If its true, welcome home Fish! I’m not going to say this cues all, but it is a step in the right direction.

My hope is that he can lure some players to come to lA.

54. say_what says:

Maybe i missed where it says that Fisher has actually “agreed” to sign with the lakers…and if indeed all this is based upon some rhetoric from an idiot at ESPN, then let’s not start rolling out the welcome carpet just yet

o yea

57. lakerfan81 says:

Fisher will be a nice addition to the back court. He is a better than any of the available FA PGs. His statistics were not spectacular but he does so many things that do not show up in the stats. He is a good leader and has experience. He has experience with the triangle offense, he is a good team defender, he knows how to space the floor properly on both ends of the floor, he knows when to take shots and when to defer to the star player (Kobe and perhaps another star if a big trade happens), he confident enough to make a big shot (he is mr 0.4 NOT .04), he defends the pick and roll (assuming you have a big man that also knows what he is doing), he will step and take a big charge, etc. etc. The point is he brings a lot more than what the statistics suggest.

58. daboss1848 says:

is proselytizing allowed here?

59. tamakin says:

Fisher is the coolest guy…Laker home games are gonna be sweeeeeeeeeeet this year!!!!!!!!!

60. dlakerfanforlife says:

WOW big deal!!! Fish is coming back. Typical Mitch move. Im not saying its a bad move but you guys are acting like we just signed an all star. Hes a backup point guard at best. Dont get me wrong I love Fish. But if Mitch gives him more than the vet min. That will be a bad move. If they do sign Fish they then need to sign a big with the MLE. OF course the first and most important piece and something to really get excited about is bringing KG here. Then and only then will I shout from the roof tops.

61. tamakin says:

Now that we have Fish, we can get rid of Farmar, Bynum, Brown and Odom and bring in KG. Fish, Kobe and KG on the same lineup! Wow that’s crazy

62. dlakerfanforlife says:

How far we have fallen that Fish is now an upgrade to our point guard situation!!!!!

63. darkice18 says:

dude all you did was look at his stats from last season and u thought thats all that matter fisher was the 2nd best possible point guard availible this offseason and we got him it fills our PG spot tremendously better fisher can guard nash and tony parker im thrilled we got him

fisher
Kobe
Luke
KG
Kwame

69. DEMARCOS HARDWELL says:

okay now dat we got fisher we should sign francis or magloire.

trade lamar odom, vladimir radmanovic, andrew bynum and a future 2nd round pick for jermaine oneal and danny granger.

trade kwame brown and brin cook for marcus camby and future second round pick

sign center vet
sign power forward vet

70. tamakin says:

Mitch don’t fuck up the negotiations.. sign Fish immediately and get rid of Farmar.. Fish and Javaris sounds good to me

71. dlakerfanforlife says:

Tamakin
I give Fish credit he made the most of his opportunity with the Lakers. He got wide open shots because of Shaq and Kobe. Look at his shooting % this year he shot 38% thats horrible. I think he is a solid point guard and he works extremly hard with the limited talent that he has. That being said he’s no allstar and although he will help the lakeres get better he cant guard NASH, PARKER, etc. We will still have stop these guys with team D. What he can bring is heart and hussle and show these new kids the triangle, and give Farmar and JAVA some knowledge and thats priceless. Dont attack me because I have a different opinion. Educated people discuss topics they dont call each other names like they are in grade school. Ive been a fan for over 20 years dont question my loyalty!!

72. Kenny says:

i agree with tamakin

and does ne1 know what happened to the brian cook for luther head traded talks?

73. One35 says:

Hey Ld2k do you think the Fisher signing will be our last move or will their be more to come?

74. Faith says:

Good stuff, good stuff (if indeed true)…now if we can only get a legit PF lol.

75. One35 says:

Hey LD2k do you think the Fisher signing will be our last move or will more moves come?

76. tamakin says:

DLAKERFAN4LIFE,

You say he shot 38% from the field. OK. Did you watch him in the playoffs against GS? Did you see how he contained Baron Davis? Did you know he was in New York with his daughter, caught a plane to Utah, dropped all kinds of 3’s against GS in a big playoof game, and led the Jazz to victory–ALL IN ONE DAY? Fish is the man and I’ve missed him ever since he left… I’m happy he’ll be back and shame on you DLAKERFAN4LIFE for having such a negative outlook… shame on you

77. Kenny says:

wow es he can u obviously undergrade fish defense hes a lock down defender and a veteran. on the defensive end hes better than nash, parker..ect. i cant believe your saying this stuff about fish hes a tru laker a TRUE LAKER he was the heart and soul that kept kobe and shaq together he was a big key in our 3 point and all u look at is his stats

78. mj2kb says:

yesssss… this is wat we need right now! A veteran who has experience, a solid defender, and his specialty is the 3-pointer. A great role for the triangle offense. Now we need the real deal who can spread the floor besides kobe. And thats KG!!!!!!!!!

79. tamakin says:

don’t rain on our parade DLAKERFAN4LIFE… go bash on Fisher somewhere else.. Fisher is a Laker for life

80. kb24mvp says:

FISHER IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER POINT GUARDS OUT THERE,BLAKE SUKS,MO WILLIAMS WANTS TO MUCH FOR WHAT HE IS WORTH AND ANYONE ELSE IS CLEARLY NOT AS GOOD AS D-FISH.HE DOESNT NEED TO BE AN ALL-STAR FOR US.WE’LL HAVE KG AND KOBE FOR THE ALL-STAR STUFF.HE KNOWS THE OFFENSE,CAN SHOOT,CLUTCH,HEART,DEFENSE.HE IS THE PERFECT ROLE PLAYER WE NEED WITH KG AND KOBE.AND EVEN IF WE KEEP THE SAME TEAM WITH NO KG,WE’LL STILL BE UP THERE IN THE TOP 5. BUT THAT DOESNT MATTER KG IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

81. tamakin says:

with fish back, the Lakers can afford to get rid of Farmar… so package Farmar, Odom, Bynum and Brown and get KG!!!!!! get rid of all that dead weight… the Wolves would be stupid not to take that offer

82. gugy says:

it’s nice that Fisher is back, but I want KG.

It’s just taking too long to make this decision. Not sure if the Lakers have any shot at it at all. Just don’t want to spend my whole summer waiting to hear the good or bad news.
oh man!

83. dlakerfanforlife says:

Lock down Baron davis. Give me a break he had at least 3 30 point games in that series. I love Fish. But hes not the savior. Get a clue guys. Yes D Fish is better than all the other point free agents out there I dont disagree with that. Im just saying that we shouldnt pay him more than the vet min just because he was part of the past good times in Laker town. Im glad we are getting him but dont throw a freaking party. Hes not KG!!! When KG comes then we celebrate thats all im saying. Im not Bashing Fish. I just want more and expect more from the front office and so should all of you.

84. Kenny says:

fish was playing good against diddy but most the time it was deron williams the only game fish played alot baron had only like 15 pts and fisher avg. 14 ppg and like 3 or 4 ast.

and no one can stop B.diddy hes nasty he avg 25. and 7 in that series but it was mostly d.williams guarding him and like i said when fish played him he had 15 pts

85. Fred A. says:

I hope this is true. And now you can trade Bynum/Radmonvic/Farmer/Sun Yee for KG.
So the starting lineup is:

SF:Lamar Odom/Ron Artest/Luke Walton/Brian Cook
PF:Kevin Garnett/Ron Tariaf

D-Fish is a “ROLE PLAYER”…he know’s his role!!! It ’s like signing a veteran Pitcher in baseball to teach the kids how to be pro’s…He’s not out savior but he’s one hell of a role player…the Lakers are trying to get deeper into the playoffs with their eyes on the Ultimate Prize…D-Fish has been there and he may be perfect to teach the younger players how to be pro’s and help the LAKERS REACH THE NEXT LEVEL…?!!!!?

BUT THAT DOESNT MATTER KG IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fisher better than the other PGs out there? He aint better than steve francis. Dont mistake his stin in New York for face Values, that was a gutter fanchise. If you have a chance to sign a player of his caliber at the such a small price, you get him I would take Francis over fisher any day of the week.

105. dlakerfanforlife says:

The only reason not to offer Fracis a deal is that I dont think he would fit well in the triangle. Hes not a very good defender either. He needs the ball in his hands to be affective and dribbles to much and takes bad shots. The triangle needs a pass first, shoot second Guard. Fracis is also to much of a crybaby. And if we can get fish for the vet min that leaves us with the ability to get another big with the MLE. We have to fill as many holes as we can. Fracis most certainly wants the Full MLE. That leaves us with no bigs if we dont sign Mihm and have to get rid of Kwame to sign KG.

106. TheFaze says:

What about Francis’ stint in Orlando? Or his last year or two in Houston? They got rid of him from both teams, and now NY, and now Portland. If he is so good, why isn’t he worth his bloated contract? If he is so good, why isn’t he still with one of his previous four teams?

Do you really think he’ll have the discipline to play the triangle offense, AND play defense?

107. BringDFishBack says:

I find one thing sooooooooooooo funny. Javaris has 1 good game in the summer league and all of a sudden he is god like and farmar should get dumped. Just so you all know, farmar averaged like 24 pts in last years summer league.

108. Fatty says:

Lakers on NBA TV at 5:00PM

Francis

Didn’t he have serious knee issues last year? Isn’t that a reason why he is being bought out? I mean if Francis can’t sky like he used to, then why the value.

If he is bought out for 35 mil, then he should choose his team and play for the Vet Min like Weber did last year. If he wants more money than that, his head is still not screwed on right and I wouldn’t want him.
Now if he wants to play with Kobe and KG, win a title, and play for the Min, then I would be very interested in him.
What’s his defense like? Does he still have good lateral movement anymore? Can he keep up with Nash (the punk)?

If he has lost it, then my suggestion would be for him to play for the Clip’s. That’s the type of guy they like.

Trade idea. Vladimir and Farmar for Magette. They like vladimir and need a guard. Magette can ball.

109. getgasol says:

FUCK YES!!!

Best news I’ve heard since, well, I don’t know, since Malone and Payton came to the Lakers. And that was a long time ago.

Those are very good points and I agree to a certain extent. But you ahave to llok at the previous systems he was in, they got rid of him in houson cuz Orlando was stupid enough to play with mcgrady. He got shippied out of orlando for actin like him and Mobley were married…lol, somting I cant and wont defend. And then new york was justa bad situation for everybody. I think you just need to put him i a good system. I like Dfish, and it will probably end up being a good signing, only if its for the verteran min. I just got here and read your post.
So, we are not gonna sign Smush???? I am deeply disappointed.haha

Vets minimum for Fish? Are you becoming a penny pincher now? Fish deserves better, he left $21-Mil on the table in Utah.

Question: Could we sign more than one player under MLE if the total salary is not exceeding the MLE amount?

116. dlakerfanforlife says:

Yes you can sign two players for a combine salary of around 6.6 mil

117. Faith says:

Cyrus, yes. We resigned Ronny for a portion of the MLE after his heart surgery. And I think we signed someone else for the rest of it.

“it can be used each season, either on one player or split up between multiple players. Contracts signed under the mid-level exception can be for up to six years.”

Fisher May Have Already Chosen L.A.

According to ESPN.com, Derek Fisher will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers sometime after tomorrow. He was released from his contract with the Utah Jazz because his daughter was sick and Salt Lake City didn’t have the facilities to properly take care of her. Instead he’s heading back to the team he started with, giving the Lakers some more veteran depth at the point guard position with knowledge of the triangle offense

Fish is a good signing, but he’s not a difference maker on the court. They will maybe win 4 or 5 more games adding him on. At the most.

Also, stop adding Smush, Artest, Shammond, Marc Gasol, and Sun Yue in your projected lineups. None of them are going to be playing on the team next season.

Javaris > Farmar

144. Fatty says:

Farmar looked like Farmar again, but two bonehead plays at the end by Jordan lost us the game.

Critt hardly played and when he did he wasn’t looking to score but help others. He made a steal and a behind the back pass that was sweet.

George Karl was talking that we got a great player in Critt. He said he has an all around game that is special.

Since cupcake is making the decisions this would be a horrific move to sign fish for the full MLE because that would restrict the lakers from getting anyone else. Fish is getting up there in age and not quick as he used to be so staying in front of quick pg will still be a problem for the lakers. again a solid signing IF the contract is near the minimum

now lets not forget who started 2 games all year, was playing against the rookie wall, had no experience, went into the playoffs and had to guard the mvp of that season (we all know he deserved it over dirk but they didnt want him to have it 3 straight years) and the past 2 seasons and did a pretty damn good job.

Also, if you watched the game today, you would know if the players around him were hitting some wide open shots he would have had 15-20 assists today.

However, his defense today was definately not good. But that doesnt deteremine how he plays d the rest of the time. I think it will improve throughtout the summer league and contineue to this next season. Its not like he is lazy out there and doesnt care, he will work on it and improve. I also think if we do get d. fish. that will help a ton learning from someone who knows what defense is, lets not forget his 1 season in the nba he was learning from smush.

157. Rpoc says:

163. Fatty says:

I have to believe the Lakers feel our future point guards are set and Fish is an excellant piece to a championship team in the mean time.

With only the Vet Min available now, our trades better be good ones.

Current roster:

1- Fisher/Farmar/Critt
2- Kobe/Mo/Sasha
3- Vladimir/Luke
4- Odom/Ronny/Cookie
5- Kwame/Bynum/Mimm (for sure now) we have no MLE left to sign someone

164. Kenny says:

First- we sign fish

Second-we trade Andrew Bynum(or LO you just dont do both), Jordan Farmar, and vladamar or sasha
(and of course we should first try to get KG but i like this option just as much u keep odom and gain JO)

Third- trade Brian cook for Luther Head
Lineup

PG-Derek Fisher/Jaaris Crittenton
SG-Kobe Bryant/Mo evans
SF-Luke/Luther head
PF-Odom/Turiaf
C-JO/Kwame

:D :D i love that line-up

165. darkice18 says:

we gotta get KG…mitch has somethin up his sleeve…he knows he hasta appease KB….bring KG mitch…we gotta get 3 or 4 teams involved in order for us to get him so why not work with Boston:

Trade Bynum,Lamar, and Kwame, and next years pick for KG…we trade odom to boston for ratlif, green, and other youngins then send it to minny, with: Bynum,Kwame,Ratlif,Green, youngins, and next years picks…Boston gets a great PF to go with Allen,Al,Pierce,Lamar…

then we have our lineup:

Fisher/Crit/Farmar
Kobe/Mo Evans/Sun Yue
Luke/Vlad/Coby Karl (Lakers very interested)
KG/Ronny/Cookie
Mihm (we gotta sign him)/Marc (we need him now cause of the MLE situation)/VETERAN???

169. Fatty says:

Without a trade, this team has improved a lot. If healthy, the Lakers can win 50-52 games in the tough west. (source Phil Jackson)

But that is not enough. As Darkice18 said, something else is going down. Fish is a great pick up, but just a piece. We need more.

170. J-Cool says:

Actually Fatty We Still Got Some Of The MLE Left That Enough To Sign A Big Man.

Who Should We Get From Free Agents With A Big Man? Mikki Moore, Darko, Anderson Varejao, Joe Smith, Or Bring Back Chris Mihm Anyone?

177. somelakerfan1 says:

kool great nowe we can have fish and crinton and trade jordan lo and bymun for kg

178. Kenny says:

lol nooo the money for the mle is gone the mle is 6.6 million split between players fisher has 5.3 of it or sutting that means we got 1 mil to offer and thats where we use the other expectation thingy

179. Fatty says:

My take on Mimm.

We spent all our money except for the Vet Min of 1.1 mil
It will be hard to acquire any quality guys for that money. So we have to sign Mimm for whatever. We have no choice, we have to match his offer. Chicago said he played well in his tryout, that’s a good sign. He also knows the triangle well.

180. Kenny says:
kool great nowe we can have fish and crinton and trade jordan lo and bymun for kg
184. Ed24 says:

Hey guys the new salary cap is $55.63 million. Just thought you guys might want to know, because you have been asking for it.

185. Fatty says:

J-Cool

It depends on how much the first year minus from the mle of 5.8 mil. Whats left is what we got. Either way, it ain’t much. That’s why we must sign Mimm.

I find it interesting OC Reg. broke the story. Good for them.

186. Kenny says:

i misss it toooO!! it sux wothout it …annd yeah i hope jerry buss will but i i doubt he will

187. Hugo Boss says:

Fatty,
Good to see you on this side of the street. My first time here.

Colorado loves Fatty and the Lakers! This is Lakers Country!

188. Fatty says:

We have Bird rights to Mimm. The same rights that allowed us to sign Walton. It still counts against the Lux cap, but a team can sign there own guys if they want to.

19. Are there exceptions to the salary cap?

Yes. Teams are not allowed to be over the salary cap, unless they are using one of these exceptions:

LARRY BIRD EXCEPTION — This is the best known one. Players who qualify for this exception are called “Qualifying Veteran Free Agents” in the CBA, and this exception is a component of the Veteran Free Agent exception. This exception allows teams to exceed the salary cap to re-sign their own free agents, up to the player’s maximum salary. The player must have played for three seasons without being waived or changing teams as a free agent. This means a player can obtain “Bird rights” by playing under three one-year contracts, a single contract of at least three years, or any combination. It also means that when a player is traded, his Bird rights are traded with him, and his new team can use the Bird exception to re-sign him. These contracts can be up to six years in length. A player can receive raises up to 10.5% of the salary in the first season of the contract. This exception is known as the Larry Bird exception because the Celtics were the first team allowed to exceed the cap to keep their own free agent, and the player happened to be Bird

189. Kenny says:

im from colorado toooo!!!

190. Fatty says:

Hugo Boss

We all have some definate opinions here, But we all agree, We love the Lakers and want to see them improved.

Getting Fish was a big step in that direction. YaHoo!!!

Arizona Loves the Lakers !!

191. Fatty says:

KG to LA [Trade-O-Meter]

Measures chance in percentage of KG coming to Lakers

Thanks to Darkice18 optimism and Hugo Boss visiting, the Meter is measuring a strong [95%]

The [O-Fish-al-Meter] has been retired and will return to his normal job as a water meter in Flagstaff, Arizona.

192. punkjones says:

Who the heck is this Punk Jones guy and why is he stealing my screen name? Huh? Who are you dude and what’s up with you putting down D Fish – a Laker for life in the heart of all true Lakers’ fans? Seriously – get a new screen name dude, and stop biting mine. And while you’re at it a little respect for a guy who helped get us three championships. Who else were we going to bring in who was going to be better than Fish? Don’t say Mo Williams ’cause it was never going to happen, don’t say Theo the Greek ’cause that wasn’t happening either. Don’t say Blake because he’s an average point guard at best with no triangle experience, not to mention Laker experience, Kobe experience, Phil experience, and clutch playoff shooting experience.
