Forbes: Derek Fisher is coming back to Los Angeles and will rejoin Kobe Bryant in the Lakers’ backcourt.
They came into the NBA together in 1996, Fisher taken with the Lakers’ 24th draft pick and Bryant obtained in a draft day trade with Charlotte.
Fisher, who turns 33 on Aug. 9, cleared waivers Thursday, and the Lakers scheduled a news conference for Friday to announce his signing. The contract reportedly is a 3-year deal worth about $14 million.
He had asked the Utah Jazz to release him from his contract so he could concentrate on finding the best medical care for his 1-year-old daughter, Tatum, who has cancer in her left eye. The Jazz honored his request.
Fisher played eight years in Los Angeles, including three NBA championship seasons, before signing with Golden State as a free agent after the 2003-04 season. After two seasons with the Warriors, he was traded to Utah.

BREAKING NEWS: Ex-Laker D-Fisher is leaving Utah
Bryant expected to be named MVP at Tuesday press conference
Welcome back D-Fish, Lakers officially ink Fisher

Man all we were missing last season was a solid pg that can play D and make open shots on a consistent basis and staying healthy. I think we are a solid 4th seed or better. The only thing I would go for at this point is JO without giving up Odom. With or without KG or JO the Laker’s will be alright and Kobe knows that.
are we at the point where JO would be a realistic change, seeing how a KG trade is getting slimmer every day?
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!! Anyone know a place where we can watch the press conference?
It would be if we don’t loose Odom in getting JO. Think about the lineup……….
Fisher
Kobe
LO
JO
Mihm
You dont wanna face that team i’ll tell u that right now.
Fisher/kobe/walton/JO/Mihm
LO cannot play sf and is not good. Keep Bynum and get rid of odom because he doesnt do anything.
Justin M.
that sounds like a solid line up if you ask me. seeing how KG is starting to go back into fantasy trading at this point. What was the original deal for JO anyway? i forgot after all the KG commotion we had last month…
I’m not gonna get into an argument that Walton is better than LO. Walton would be great off the bench. Whatever are differences are I hope we can agree that getting JO would be a lot cheaper and better for us in the long run than gutting our whole team for KG.
thats if KG is approachable anymore…
im not saying walton is better, im saying bynum is better. i’d rather keep bynum, get JO, and get rid of LO than keep odom, get JO, and get rid of bynum.
It was suppose to be Bynum and Odom for KG, but that is to much. Laker’s should work something out keeping Odom and it shouldnt be to hard to convince the Pacers.
i mean bynum and odom for JO
BRINGDFISHBACK.U ARE INSANE..LO IS ONE OF OUR KEY PLAYERS!..I THINK I SPEAK FOR ALL OF US THAT I WOULD RATHER TRADE BYNUM THAN ODOM IF YOU WANT ASHOT AT WINING THE WCF
well i got to go to b ball practice. If KG thinks he’s to good for LA let him think that, guys as hard as this might be to accept we dont NEED kg. Think about that.
The thing is that Odom is a proven player and Bynum is a player with potential. If you wanna wait five years for a title kepp bynum but if u want to win quick keep Odom.
DYNASTY, LO doesnt fit the system at all. He just doesnt, not more i can say about it. He stands around the outside, doesnt use mismatches to his advantage and isnt a good defender. He doesnt want to win, he doesnt care. Bynum on the otherhand is too much work to give up. 2 years of work under kareem. You think buss doesnt know what he is doing with that? Buss knows exactly what bynum will be. And on top of that, we can have both odom and JO. neither can play center, neither can play sf. If you want to throw odom at sf remember 2 seasons ago when we had mihm at center, kwame at pf, and odom at sf. He couldnt do squat, not that he does much at pf anyway. You can’t take a player out of their position and expect production.
Better be more moves coming or I’m gonna bust Mitch’s balls.

odom will never be a winner. Sure he’s better than bynum right now. On a scale of 1-10, odom is a 5 and bynum will be an 8 or above, but is more like a 3 right now.
Please note im not calling odom average and that is not a scale based on all players in the nba. just an example.
The ? is how long is it going to take Bynum to become an 8 and is Kobe willing to wait that long??
yea, my point is that we need to pick one way to go and do it. What i dont want happening is trading bynum, not getting kobe happy, him opting out, and we no longer have bynum to rebuild with. And if we can get JO for just odom, i’d much rather do that than bynum because then we could plan for now and the future. Where as whatever point of his career odom is at, he wont be a main option for a winning team.
Odom fits the triangle nicely. He is a very good all around player. The problem is that the Lakers are trying to use him as the post player in the triangle and he is not a post player. If he was playing on the wing (SF) then he would fit perfectly. Odom’s main problem is that he was being used in a way that did not suit his game and he did not know how to play with Kobe. I think as a wing player he would be much more productive, especially if how he was playing at the beginning of the season (before injuries) is any indication. He was finally learning to play with Kobe.
IF the Lakers did a trade for JO that did not include Odom then the Lakers would still need to try to sign another front court player; PJ Brown or Webber. Then move Lamar to the SF position. The problem with that is O’neal is not a post player and he is not a good passer. So I think the lakers would have some problems offensively, but they would be much much better defensively.
I discussed with a Pacers fan why he thought Bird wanted Odom. He said that Bird did not want to be the guy that completely dismantled the team and sent them into total rebuild mode. That with a front court of Granger, Odom and Bynum the Pacers could compete in the east within a year or two. I think that might explain why the Pacers are so interested in Odom. I still think from a cap point of view that it would be wiser to take Kwame brown’s espiring contract.
inow that mihm is a laker and fisher too we should trade Bynum, Kwame, vlade, Farmar and 08 pick for Jermaine Oneal…
PG: Derek/Javaris/Sasha
SG: Kobe/Mo evans
SF: Lamar/Luke
PF: Jermaine/Ronny/Cook
C: Mihm/Marc Gasol (we may need him!!!)/veteran?
I say we get Gasol rather than get JO…Gasol might be cheaper
I Love D-Fish!!!!!!!
I say we get Gasol rather than get JO…Gasol might be cheaper
As much as I would like that to happen, we have a better chance of getting kg. Gasol is not on the brink of opt out like kg is, memphis does not have to make a firesale for him so why would they, the only thing we can offer them is bynum, they already have mike conley jr. so farmar and critt aren’t attractive pieces. I don’t think getting gasol is much of an option.

This {Profanity isn't allowed on theLakersNation.com -- Please go back and edit your comment. Thank you.} is personal! If G.S. doesn’t step up then so be it. KG can freeze his ass off in Minnesota for one more year.
