NBA analyst I completely agree. I think McHale did better than anyone thought he could (especially if you remember the Sam cassell and 1st rnd pick for Marko Jaric). When a trade of this magnitude goes down it is from the very top. This was Taylor not McHale he was just left to seal the deal. Minnesota did not fair too badly in this deal. they get a proven young big man in Jefferson, a huge expiring contract in Ratliff, and a couple of young players with some upside in Telfair and Green (much better than what the Lakers could offer).

The only problem is that Taylor should have:

1. Fired McHale a long time ago (probably about the time Jerry West came out of retirement before he went to Memphis). If he is willing to pay Garnett 226M why not spend money on a competent GM.
2. Traded Garnett a year ago to Chicago for Deng, #2 pick, Chandler (and whoever else was involved).

Please....enough of this garbage about "if KG wanted to be a Laker, he would be a Laker". The problem was all along that the Wolves were not interested in taking on Odom AND his contract and the other guys it would have taken to get up to $23 million in cap value (remember the KG trade kicker problem). KG could wish to be a Laker all he wanted.....and it wasn't going to move the deal along because of the lack of tradeable assets on the Laker roster.

Every contract Minnesota received in the trade is one year. McHale wanted Jefferson....and he has a year to see if he is worth offering a Bird rights contract to. Ratliff....$13 million gone off the cap next season. Telfair....going to be waived I suspect. Green....Minny gets a one year looksee on him.

The more I look at the deal from Minny's end, the more I like what McHale is doing. Cap room is great from more than being able to bring in a free agent (Orlando's deal for Rashard Lewis comes to mind), it allowa you a lot of flexibility to bring in a player by trade.

Sure, the Wolves will stink this year. But hey, they won what, 36 games with Garnett last season. They can win only 30 without him just as easy with the same level of pain in the fan base.

I have had a full day to digest what KG said yesterday and here is my feelings on who is to blame for KG not coming to LA.
1.Jim Buss-Don't kid yourselves Laker fans Jim wants to build around Bynum not Kobe. This guy is the worst thing to happen to the Lakers EVER! Plus didn't DFish say yesterday the Lakers were not willing to trade certain players, this guy is killing us.
2.Kobe-All he had to do was tell KG he was staying and KG would be a Laker,to the guys who think I am wrong you have your opinion but I am right, KG had all the leverage in this instance he held all the cards.Listen to KG say how Pierce called him every day about joining the celts and when they didn't talk on the phone they played ball at UCLA together.Kobe could not even return KGs calls or worse yet maybe he did and told KG he is OUT of LA no matter what.KG wanted LA,at a press conference in Boston he starts talking about LA and he gets a smile on his face saying LA is LA man what else can you say about it, then realizes he is in Beantown sitting w/Doc,Ainge and Pierce not in LA w/PJ,Mitch and Kobe and his smile turns to sadness when he gives the reason LA was not an option for him.
3.Kevin McHale-Worst GM in the history of professional sports. It seems to me Ainge is the only guy McHale talks to in the league and when you get 2 ex-celts together no way Lakers stood a shot.I will look for McHale to be a scout or some other meaningless job in the celts organization very soon, no way he keeps his job.
4.Jerry Buss-Had a kid who he named Jim(BAD MOVE)gave him a job(WORST MOVE EVER).Kicked Jerry West to Memphis(2nd Worst Move Ever).Got rid of Shaq a year to early and got nothing close to equal value for him(3rd worst move ever).Jerry we all appreciate what you have done in LA for the Lakers but I think I speak for all of LAKER NATION when I say PLEASE SELL THE TEAM or let basketball people do the jobs you hired them to do,give PJ more of a say and let Mitch get deals done w/out your son blocking every move he tries to make.
5.Mitch-This poor bastard was in a no win situation, first Kobe went crazy on the radio(teams now know Lakers need to make trades or Kobe is gone)second he is dealing w/McHale who it seems only wanted to help his ex team or Phoenix(Lakers newest rival)Remember people Kerr and Dantoni both said they never even talked to Minny about a trade so if McHale had his way it was either Celts or no one.Third and most important it seems he is not creative enough when he puts packages together he never even changed the original deal Bynum(Buss probably said no way)LO and 1st rounder, come on Mitch do whatever it takes we were talking about KG not some scrub.
6.KG-He could have done more to get in touch w/Kobe or Phil and let them know he wanted to play for the Lakers. The only thing that scares me is what I said earlier about maybe KG and Kobe talked and Kobe told him he was leaving no matter what.
7.Taylor-Should have fired McHale long ago!
8.Phil-Should have got in Kobes ear about getting KG to LA. I still say Kobe KG Phil=Title now I don't know what to think.
No matter who plays for, works for or owns the Lakers I will always be a fan its in my makeup its in my blood. July 31st 2007 was the first time I ever questioned it though.

Kobe isn't to balme...he's doesn't sign the checks...the Buss famliy is in charge like charles...that may be the problem! In the closing weeks i noticed that KG was kinda weak...loyal but weak! He should have asked for a trade, didn't...Boston had a way better offer, younger talent...hell with it...sign webber and goes balls to the walls for J.O. or Gasol...a second choice maybe but i think in the long run it will work out better 4 the Lakers...???

You guys dont realize it took KG 1 sentence to make the wolves trade him to LA, no matter what they would get in return. If KG demanded he went to LA, we'd have him. And he very well could have done that if kobe cleared the situation up. Kobe's pissed and now he's making the situation worse for himself.

Whatever. Take that with a grain of salt. It goes so much deeper. If the trade appeased both FOs, Garnett would be headed to LA (and he would've been fine with it). He's gone and we just need to focus on the future.
