KG will never wear #21 again, in Boston that is

KG has a problem, where 21 would’ve looked very nice in the purple and yellow, they have retired that number in Boston. His second and third choices, #1 & #2, also retired. What will the new era of KG represent? Stein speculates on his future number:

ESPN: If there’s a more superstitious player in the NBA than Garnett, I’m struggling to picture him. But Garnett, remember, is about to join the franchise that has retired 21 numbers, including KG’s trademark No. 21. He’s going to have to change numbers whether he wants to or not.

Word is Garnett’s first three choices with his new team were Nos. 21, 1 and 2. But all three have been retired by the Celts: No. 21 for Bill Sharman, No. 1 for franchise founder Walter Brown and No. 2 for Red Auerbach.

Official Blockbuster - KG “officially” traded

It was a hell of a run. Millions of fans tuned in to our cause, and while it ended like this, we here at GetGarnett.com say thank you. Kevin Garnett has been officially traded to the Boston Celtics, July 31, 2007.

KG deal finalized, KG to sign 3 year ext.

Looks like it’s almost time to put this baby to sleep. Looks like the first details of KG’s new home are now revealed:

look up!

BostonHerald: A league source just confirmed that the Celtics and Timberwolves have finalized a deal that will bring Kevin Garnett to Boston in exchange for Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff and two first round draft picks.

Garnett is expected to arrive in Boston this afternoon for a physical.

Garnett has agreed to a three-year extension with the Celtics beyond the two remaining on his contract, guaranteeing that he will be a Celtic for the next five years.

One reason for prolonged negotiations was the Celtics’ attempt to lessen the luxury tax hit this team will take next year, with Garnett, Paul Pierce [stats] and Ray Allen scheduled to earn a combined $54.4 million - the highest of any three-player combo in the NBA.

This will involve finding a way to lessen the impact of a 15 percent trade kicker in Garnett’s contract.

So why did McHale turn down Lakers offer?

Still wondering why or what happened to the Lakers offer to Minny? The L.A. Times gives a brief explaination:

L.A. Times: In June, McHale turned down a Lakers offer of Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom, reportedly because Odom has two years worth almost $28 million left on his contract.

Sad day in ‘Sota

This is a great article - aimed for Minnesota fans and KG loyalists. Talks about the soon-t0-be, perhaps, departure of KG to Boston. Worth a read, KG is a warrior.

RealGM: All good things must come to an end. The Kevin Garnett Era seems to be coming to a close as sources have revealed that he is on the verge of being dealt to the Boston Celtics for the majority of their youthful roster. Despite the fact that many tears will be shed in the Twin Cities over the next couple of days, perhaps these tears are long overdue. Garnett poured his heart into the City of Minneapolis for a dozen years, and now it is time to send him to a situation where he can have instant success that has evaded him throughout his career. As a sorority girl once told me: Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

T’wolves may regret making this trade

Here is an article from Sam Smith, talks about the better offers; also indicates KG wanted to play in the Western Conference pre-draft. That could change now, evidently, as Allen & Peirce are now hooping together in Boston.

ChicagoSports.com: Kevin Garnett appears about to be traded, though not to the Bulls.

Well, I was half right.

Hey! They was my deal! I’ve been working on it for two years.)

It seems the Minnesota Timberwolves finally got very serious this month after preliminary talks with Boston broke down before the draft when Garnett indicated he wanted to play in the Western Conference. There supposedly were talks with the Suns, Lakers and Warriors—and the Bulls were on the fringe.

Timberwolves sources say there were discussions about the Bulls’ first-round pick, which they used for Joakim Noah, a future first-rounder, Tyrus Thomas and potential short-term contracts involving P.J. Brown and others.

Minnesota balked before the 2007 draft with the Bulls, though not as strongly as it did a year ago when the Bulls were willing to part with Luol Deng, Tyson Chandler and the No. 2 overall pick in the draft for Garnett. Teams then were told Minnesota would never deal Garnett.

Newsday: Source says Kobe will step up and force out with no landing of KG

Well, you knew this was going to come from somewhere, so here it is:

Newsday: Golden State and the Lakers made serious inquiries, along with Phoenix, which around draft time was Garnett’s preferred destination. Adding Garnett to Allen and Paul Pierce is a coup for the Celtics, but it also figures to increase the likelihood that Kobe Bryant will step up his efforts to force his way out of Los Angeles, according to a source.

One more premier player getting traded, but not to the Lakers, means that “the Laker situation is only going to get worse,” the person with knowledge of the situation said. “I’m sure Kobe’s wondering, ‘Why can’t we do that? If Danny Ainge got it done, why can’t we?’ ”

With the options to appease him dwindling, the next step for Bryant will be to threaten a training camp holdout and follow through on it by failing to show up when the Lakers open camp Oct. 8 in Hawaii.

Theo Ratliff comes on radio - talks about POSSIBLY going to Minne

Theo Ratliff came on the show “Drive This,” this morning. He talks about the current situation.

It seems like he is ready to go to Minny. Talks about being a professional.

Sounds like he is ready to go - but never mentioned anything is “done.” Sounds like he isn’t sure if he is moved or not.
