TLN’s Pre-Game: Lakers vs. Clippers

Game Preview: Lakers vs Clippers

Sunday 7:30 - Lakers Standard Time

Television: Fox Sports West

‘The Battle for LA’

Public Announcement: Because of the seriousness of the Clippers - Lakers rivalry. All fans attending tonight’s game will be required to check their guns at the door. Extra Security has been added for your protection. Teams of Hell’s Angels, retired WWF Wrestlers, and LA County Jail Trustee’s in uniform, will be roving the perimeter of the Staples Arena to insure peace between the rival fans. Management will not tolerate riots, nor excessive displays of verbal abuse between Clippers and Lakers Fans. For your assistance, First Aid Stations, and M.A.S.H. units will be provided as a courtesy by the Staples Arena. Please enjoy the game responsibly.

This is what the Clippers Public Relations Personal dream, wish, and pray they had. A rivalry that is second to none. A rivalry that is so intense, it could lead to LA’s version of Civil War. It ain’t gonna ever happen.

And here’s why? The stat’s don’t lie.

Official stats from last nights games. (Source NBA.com)

Lakers Attendance: 14,252

Clippers Attendance: 0

I know that sounds impossible to believe, but did you see the Clipper highlights on Kcal? As they panned the camera across the Arena, you saw Magette with the ball, but you also saw the seats almost completely empty. With my Tivo, I could freeze the action and clearly see two things. What few people were there, also had no Clip stuff on. Which lead me, with my uncanny power of deduction to this conclusion. Either they were homeless people looking for shelter from the wind, or disinterested Laker Fans waiting for the game to start.

Sorry Clippers Fans, wherever you are? Lakers are Numero Uno in LA.

PS. Have you considered moving to Seattle where your name will fit in nicely?

Now on to the Game Preview.

Key Game Match Ups: Or ‘Race for the Minutes’ Challenge

Center Position: Phils version of the movie Highlander, “There can only be two” PJ had this to say. “They’ll sort it out,” Jackson said. “They’ll start playing and the competitiveness will start to eliminate someone who’s not playing well enough.” Mihm or Brown could eventually be shifted to power forward, he added. Fatty’s Take: Does that mean Drew has one spot already? And Bynum, ‘Where’s that Skyhook?!’

The Guards: Crittenton vs Farmar vs Sasha vs Mo vs Fish vs Kobe vs Karl

Phil’s ‘Push for the Minutes’ Competition

PJ has indicated Fisher will start and Fisher will end. But in between, a whole lot of minutes will be going down. For the first time in three years we can honestly say, we have some solid guard play, and some serious competition for those spots. Feeling left out, Sasha came to play last night.

Coach is noticing. “He’s played exceptionally well all the way through,” Jackson said. “I really would have a hard time ranking them as far as guards go. They’re all playing real good basketball. The thing about Sasha, he can play both (guard) positions.”

Fatty’s take: Wife and daughter think Sasha could get the most minutes, because he’s the cutest with his new hair. Farmar is impressing, but Critt keeps me screaming for more time. That pass to Drew was incredible.

The Power Forward: Ronny is da man. But is Cook becoming the real ‘Cookie Monster’? Fatty’s take: Two good games for Cookie, can he make it three? One more good game and he might come off my ‘must trade’ list.

‘Defense, Defense, Defense’ Dept.

Who said this?

“Its defense where we need to be. . . cohesive decisions defensively. . . we need a defensive identity to hang our hats on. Answer: Kobe Bryant

And Luke added, “we are already rotating better than last year. The goal is to make the rotations natural.”

The Lakers Nation Take: That’s the talk we want to hear.

Lakers Cheer for Tonight’s Game:

Clippers, Clippers, sink their ship

Send them on a one way trip

Go Lakers!

“It doesn’t count, its only the preseason” Game Prediction:

This is our house. This is our shoot out. This is our season. This is our game. Lakers win.

does anybody know if this game will be broadcast online?

  5. Gravatar Icon 5 MILO

hzm, would’nt it be great if the Lakers had their own center?I think it would add more of a “homecrowd advantage” that would trigger some fear in the opposing teams when they show up to play at the Lakers Center…Id love for someone to buy that other team and take them south to Anaheim or maybe even further down to San Diego or something.Well the Lakers own LA anyway so i guess it does’nt matter…

Well Milo, if you move them to Anaheim you might regret that. Have you been watching sports team here in Anaheim? Stanley Cup champions, Ducks and the successful Angels with a World Series ring fairly recently. By the way, how are the dodgers and kings doing???lol
