BREAKING NEWS: Paxson puts Kobe rumors to rest

Looks like we got a new story publication of the press conference held in Chicago. The Bulls GM Paxson addressed the media to announce that there is NO trade that will happen and for his Bulls players to put it to rest; as well as fans and media. No Kobe trade to Bulls…!

Chicago Sports: Kobe Bryant is not coming to the Bulls.

General manager John Paxson put an end to more than a week of feverish speculation, declaring, “There’s not a deal to be done” in the Bryant sweepstakes following Thursday’s practice.

It’s time to put it to rest,” Paxson said.

Paxson had grown weary of responding to the endless speculation regarding Bryant’s future and wanted to ease the minds of his team, which many consider an Eastern Conference favorite.

Paxson acknowledged having several conversations with the Lakers regarding Bryant but refused to divulge specifics. It’s known that the Bulls engaged in multiple talks trying to engineer three-team trades, but nothing ever got close, Paxson said.

    so yea kobe stays.

FINALLY… someone cracks and says something true.

You know the CHI town media has been pestering them trying to force something as well. Let’s get this distraction behind us and play some ball. Let’s figure out how to win, so this “talk” becomes irrelevant.

  3. Gravatar Icon 3 mj2kb

nope there still going to trade him

  4. Gravatar Icon 4 The Nugget

    w00t.

  5. Gravatar Icon 5 LD2k

I still will bet he wants Chicago more than any other place.

So this news makes me sit back and take a breath or two… while I still can…

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 hZm

There are still 28 other teams out there.

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 LD2k

Yeah but like I said, Kobe seems to be attracted to Chicago.

  8. Gravatar Icon 8 double

Now the Lakers need to make a statement and take a stance. Just because the Bulls are out of the picture, doesn’t mean this whole fiasco is over for us.

Is Barkley right? Are we past the point of no return? Or is it possible we can salvage our relationship with Kobe and continue efforts to improve the team this season (with Kobe remaining a Laker)? The Kings are looking to move Artest and it won’t be long before the Pacers have to make a decision about O’Neal. Hopefully, we can return to being optimistic about the possibility of the team improving and not rebuilding.

  11. Gravatar Icon 11 LD2k

The Lakers DO NEED to make a press conference like this and announce their stance on the situation. And people wonder why we have no leverage. :(

    byebyekb24, you’re taking it personally.

Think about it from a basketball perspective.

The Bulls had to make this announcement (to calm the nerves of their kids).

The Lakers do not . . it is still KB’s wish to be traded - that has not changed. Buss has already said (paraphrased): we will explore all options, but is our hope that winning will cure all ills and he will remain with our organization. The Lakers’ stance is clear and has been clear: KB is a Laker; there will be no firesale - come strong or don’t come at all.

Now, next order of business . . .Put together some trades - build around this temporary malcontent - start winning and maybe, just maybe we will see a happy camper who does not opt out, or if he does, it is only to re-sign for more $$, or less $$ to show his team-oriented persona.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 JBMONKEYMAN

So the childish one doesnt get his way… for now. All this means is the Lakers are in limbo until further notice.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 mplakers

wow! i am impressed. an executive stating clear and concise sentences rather than smoke and mirrors. truth of the matter is deng is the deal breaker and either the bulls or kobe do not want him gone from chi-town.

therefore, this forces two issues…one-kobe decides that a deng-less chicago is better than staying in a town where he stated he doesn’t want to be a part of and chicago is back on the trade list again. or two- the lakers or kobe pull a “paxson” and make bold statements of their own saying how much they are willing to work things out for this season.

of course there are other options…the lakers can look elsewhere but, that is unlikely since everyone else has said no or they are non-appealing to kobe’s no trade clause…also, kobe may sit out until everything comes to a head and he is traded for cheap or the lakers keep him under contract for two years and he loses all that money.

this organization needs something positive to happen. what is it going to be? keep tuned in to the soap opera known as “as the lakers turn”

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 steve

Maybe thats why the jo talks have started again

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 LD2k

But here is the problem. Kobe answers the media - now - by saying, “it’s up to management.”

It’s NOT. He can veto any trade. The Lakers need to make an announcement on their stance with Kobe. It will help a lot.

Basically means he would rather play anywhere else but here.

Pax could also be bluffing to calm things down with the media coverage. GM’d do things like this all the time.

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 JBMONKEYMAN

No hZm Gm’s dont call press conferences and go back on there word behind closed doors. Thats called losing all credability and no GMs dont do this all the time. Its called the truth soemthing us Laker fans arent used to hearing. Kobe deal to Chicago is off for at least a few months.

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 LD2k

I agree. Another article I linked to explained why a Kobe deal is NOT going to happen. Kobe has too much power with his trade-waiver.

Plus, NO Deng, no Kobe. Sorry.

OK guys stop this non sense crap an move on, Kobe is a Laker and thats what is important now. “Lest get some W”

This is just the end of another round in the Lakers-Kobe thing still we have a long way to go this is just the start. 28 teams are still out there who knows Jimmy may have ended this thing but remember guys there is three words that we have to remember “closed door conversations”…we have to remember that. I´m happy that another round just ended but still “CDC” is the thing that we have to remember. For me i think we really have to trade Kobe. Like what magiic said we have to move on……….

This news is absolutely great! Completely made my day. NOW BRING KOBE HELP!

  35. Gravatar Icon 35 gugy

The Lakers organization and Kobe Bryant have to make a statement very soon that everything is fine and let’s move on. This is very detrimental for the team. The Lakers either say no more trade discussions this season or just move Kobe NOW.

I want Kobe to stay, but I am getting very tired of this uncertainty. At this point I don’t care if Kobe leaves. We just need some sort of closure for the season. The way this is still going on and on is just insane.

  36. Gravatar Icon 36 fatty

    Why the press conference now?

Besides the obvious, to calm nerves. Plus the trade had become more difficult to consumate.
Both Deng and Gordon did not sign the extentions.
If they were traded, the Lakers would have to sign the extentions. Possible, but very complicated. Neither of them were happy with 10 mil each, they wanted more. Add to the deal, the number of players leaving and it was becoming more difficult to pull off.

Magic said Chicago, so if Kobe holds to his Chicago demand, no trade will happen till the off season at the earliest.

Thank God, sanity will prevail after all.

Told you God is a Laker Fan.

  40. Gravatar Icon 40 gugy

    I agree Steve.

Kobe needs to make his mind this week. He is hurting the team very badly.

I have to say that Jerry Buss is really smart. He is turning the wave of Kobe support from the fans. I think most folks now are so tired of all of this. I want Kobe to stay, but he needs to put his heart.

    Make your mind man! NOW!

One thing KB proved by vetoing any Deng-less trades is at least he knows what he wants, that he’s not intent on getting out of town at ANY cost, ending up in a worse situation than what he started with.

Maybe Indiana will take Carl’s Junior, Odom the Modum, Chrissy Mihm, and Radamamananonvich and give us JO. If you count the letters in the names of all the players we’re giving them for one order of JO with no fries, they’re getting a lot more alphabet soup than they’re giving up. Whadaya say, Indy?

And maybe we can all be happier once Kobe plays with an O’Neal again.

Dr. Jerry Buss would be wise to have his GM, Mitch Kupchak, say the same thing Paxson did: For now, anyway, we’re done talking to teams about Kobe Bryant. The Lakers either do that and try to salvage the season or cave to Bryant and make a hasty trade. It isn’t much of a choice, but Bryant and the Lakers share the blame for creating this mess.”

    jo/mihm

Here’s an idea…if Kobe wants Deng so much…maybe the Lakers can sign Deng as a free agent at the end of this season since he didn’t sign an extension with Chicago. Kobe knows Deng will be his Pippen.

Problem with this is how much cap room we have by that time. What do you guys think. Bring in Deng?

I don’t think the lakers need to make a statement because kobe is the only one involved in the trade and the fact is HE WANTS TO BE TRADED AND HE STILL WANTS TO BE TRADED. From the bulls perspective, the whole team is wondering if they are going to be involved in the trade; therefore Pax had to say something. Right now the situation hasn’t changed. The Lakers are possibly losing kobe at the very most in 2 years. The don’t need to appease him. They need to keep growing their talent and if a trade comes up maybe make it. The FO has no committment from Kobe therefore they should not try to make a deal just to appease him because they can’t count on him being around very much longer.

Postering??? Hardly, he would have been out of here today if he got a decent offer. The only thing that is keeping kobe in a laker uniform is a trade that would satisfy both Buss and Kobe. And Kobe has the ultimate say on whether he stays or goes. So for those of you who want kobe to stay you need to petition, grovel, plead, beg, and pray to kobe. He has the ultimate say in the matter. Also, keep kissing his ass… I think he likes that. lol
