TLN’s Post-Game Report: Lakers vs. Pistons

laldet.jpg

Sorry for the delayed post-game report. As most of you probably were, I too was celebrating the big win over Detroit all night. So now that I have sobered up, here we go. While we shot only 38.5%, this wasn’t an ugly win. Both teams simply played great defense. So what was the difference for the Lakers? The Lakers were running the break extremely well last night. They also had 23 offensive rebounds, 9 from Lamar Odom. You probably won’t see 23 offensive rebounds from a team again this year. The Lakers finally took care of the ball with only 9 turnovers. The Lakers should have had 10, but the refs finally gave us some love and saved a ball from going out of bounds leading to an easy bucket. The only downside for me, was realizing who we traded for Mo Evans—Samb looks like a good young talent who can get up to block shots. Now, the bests of the night:

lamarsheed.jpgTop 3 Laker performers:

1) Lamar Odom in my mind was the difference for the Lake show. His 9 offensive rebounds made the Laker shooting look better than it was. Lamar finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds, only 2 turnovers, and I thought he played great D all night long.

2) Jordan Farmar once again sparked the Lakers. He only shot 3-10, but hit 2 big threes. The most important thing about Jordan was that he got 4 steals. He was everywhere on D against Detroit.

3) Andrew Bynum keeps impressing me. He shot 5-11, had 7 rebounds, 5 offensive, and a block. He had a lot of energy out there and was a big part of the 4th quarter run.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest):

There really wasn’t a Laker who played like Smush today. They all hustled and played well together. But, since I have to give out an STD, why not Cook. He started the game well, but cooled off fast. He shot 2-10 and only had 1 rebound. But still, he rotated well and didn’t hurt us too bad. Sadly, this was a good game for Cook.

Key play of the game: Either Farmar’s steal and pass to Evans who ooped it to Bynum OR the referee assisting Vlad Rad on a floater.

What to look for next game: I just don’t think that the Bulls are that bad. They are 1-6, and are shooting awful percentages. I’m feeling a win, but I’m also feeling a close game. Game is Sun night @ 6:30 PM.

Good job Steve… I disagree that cook had a ok game. Cook made 2 wide open 3’s and did not contribute any other way. all those shots under the basket that would have been layups for anyone else he missed because that fool cannot jump. his vertical leep is about 2 inches. why Phil continues to play him i will never know he could have used mimh in that circumstance.

I agree with the nice win through D. But we would have won by more if Kobe shot well but he good defence against Rip Hamilton. The game Sunday nite looks like a win but thats what I though when we played New Orleans.

I would take Bynum out and put Kobe at 3 because his defense was amazing. He and Farmar set the tone defensively. Good win for the Lakers and the next 3 games are all winnable, Chicago is the best team in that group. That would be an 8-3 record if they can pull it off. That would be a damn good start considering the schedule they have had.

Watch out for a fired up Bulls squad. Reading the comments by Deng and co, you’ld think they might have some real frustration that needs to come out and in their feeble little minds, its all Kobe’s fault and it can all end by decimating the Lakers and shutting down Kobe….
Or they might all might play on eggshels, afraid to piss off their future leader and teamate, and afraid that playing to well or poorly might get them traded.
