“I never saw anyone saying that so I just can’t believe it. If you could find the post then people would believe you otherwise your just jumping on the Bynum bandwagon.”

-Sure buddy. What are you, a lawyer? A detective? Who are you to say you are the only one here that havent seen my post? I might be guilty I dont post much on here or at LA Times blog. But I do post when there’s an important topic that needs to be resolved. Look, you might not have seen my old post/posts. But dont assume anything. Cos you know what it makes you. And for the ones that have seen my posts, they know.

ab4sure...there were quite of few people who said they wanted to keep Bynum, myself included. I don't see why anyone would have wanted to trade him, he had tons of potential, and you cant teach size. But obviously there were an overnumbering amount of people who said they wanted him gone.

[Comment ID #19395 Will Be Quoted Here]

1. Yes, the Caron Butler for Kwame trade definitely backfired but at the time it was a good thought. Remember Caron was entering his last year as a Laker. The Lakers said they were NOT going to resign Carson because he played the 3 and they already had LO who was going to play the 3 so the Lakers needed a 4. Kwame Brown was traded to the Lakers to be their power forward. Unfortuntately Kwame Brown could not play the 4 and had to be moved to the 5, which is he is more comfortable with (he's closer to the rim).

2. With regards to Shaq, AB4Sure is correct, the Lakers had to quickly trade Shaq because Kobe was a free agent that summer. Kobe was not going to resign with the Lakers if Shaq was still on the team and the Lakers wanted to keep Kobe (remember Kobe was seriously considering signing with the Clippers or the Bulls). Because Shaq was going to opt out of his Laker contract the following year (remember, in the summer of 2005, Shaq would have been able to opt out of his Laker contract because Jerry Buss had already stated that he wasn't going to extend Shaq's contract and pay him $30M/year, Jerry offered him 22.5M/year as an extension, Shaq said no), the Lakers did not want to lose Kobe to free agency in 2004 and have Shaq opt-out in 2005. In other words the Lakers did NOT want to be both Kobe-less and Shaq-less so they quickly traded Shaq and resigned Kobe. Also, Shaq had a no-trade clause, meaning he could void any trades, so it was very difficult to trade him and get equal value.

But Mitch has also done a lot of stupid things and those stupid things outweigh him doing good for this organization by drafting Bynum.

Top 2

1. Letting Butler go for a potenial-less Kwame

2. Trading Shaq ( a dominant superstar) for WHO (my point exactly), at best decent players.

I wish it was OUR GM but give credit where credit is deserved and that is to all the teams that did trades with LA any got the benefit (Miami, Washington)

I agree in hindsight butler for Kwame has been a mistake, but it did make sense then because bigs are so hard to find and draft because they come around so rarely and you have to have one of the top picks like portland who got oden.

As far as the Shaq trade that has been known as a Firesale and they had to do that quickly so that kobe would resign with the lakers. If they kept Shaq, you would never have kept Kobe. Who would you have chosen??? Shaq or Kobe I think the lakers made the right choice in choosing kobe.
