The Celtics have earned my respect. Their 26-3 record is no fluke. They held a team that averages 107 points a game, with even more at home to 91. The Celtics forced the Lakers into several tough shots and the Lakers as a team only shot 35%. The Lakers also had shades of last year with 17 assists and 16 turnovers.
It was an ugly game all around for the Lakers. While several fans blame the shorts, I’m not convinced that had anything to do with it. Paul Pierce put on a show for his hometown fans as the Celtics upset the Lakers tonight (Lakers were favored by 2.5). Now, the bests of the day:
Top 3 Laker performers:
1) Lamar Odom had an okay game, but still made number one. 14 and 10 tonight to go with 1 steal and 2 blocks.
2) Trevor Ariza had a solid game tonight. 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. He seemed to be consistent all night on defense.
3) Fish was solid as well. Only starter without a turnover and hit a couple big threes.
Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): I can put Kobe here with his 6-25 FGs, but Luke just looked pathetic off the bench tonight. 1-4 shooting and 3 turnovers. He got beat on D all night and looks like he needs a few more games off.
Key play of the game: Fish hits a three as the first half expires.
What to look for next game: Look for an easy W. If the Lakers score 100, it shouldn’t be close. My prediction, Lakers 106 Sixers 91. Game is Friday @ 7:30 PM on FSN locally.

if u like it or not imo kobe=std..
Sadly.
kobe was easily the smush of the day. i hate to say it, but his lack of efficiency was way more detrimental than luke’s performance. kobe got to the line a lot though, which was great. but 6/25 is beyond horrible. im waiting for him to destroy philly this next game.
They’re just too good. They’ve gor 3 all stars on their team.. it’s not fair.. We were within six… and then kobe continued with his show.. he simply wasn’t hitting anything
Kobe and Bynum weren’t performing last night.. Bynum AGAIN got in to early foul trouble.. Kobe just missed everything.. but he did get to the line.. The best thing was to see KG bleeding :).. and leaving the game, and thinking that was a foul just cus he was bleeding =)
I’m expecting a lot of nasty words against KOBE. You can blame him as long as you want, but i have to remind you he’s not the only player who played against Celtics.Poor Kobe, he always had to take the blame everytime the opponent won against our team Take time to read what Jerry West said about Kobe over KG. I just noticed Lakers fans only good and nice when the team won,but if we lose that they can say whatever they want. Loosing it happens in every team.
Two things about this game.
1. Boston really is that good.
2. LA is not that bad.
Part of the reason LA looked so good was because of Bostons defense, but even as good as their defense was, LA just had a bad game, they didn’t look to get the ball inside, and the ball movement was bad. Plus they missed lay ups all night long. From the few times I have watched Boston play this year, if you want to beat them you have to play solid defense. Thats how you do it, however, the Lakers just were not able to execute on the defensive end.
One more note. It is quite amazing what KG brings to that team. Peirce has never been a good defensive player, neither has Allen, but since they have been playing with Garnett, they all seem to be playing great defense. I think this is a direct effect of having Garnett on the court. Besides Kobe he is probably the most intense player in the NBA. He brings the effort on the defensive end every night and it is contagious because he has everyone else playing great defense every night as well. KG is the MVP of the season so far, even though all his numbers are down this year.
STD = Retro shorts
Now that I have seen them on these guys, they definitely don’t do the look justice for them like the old days.
i noticed that lakers never get there 5th win in a streak, its only 4 out of 5, BUT ILL TAKE THAT
Lmao, they played like the reactions in this video:
http://www.nba.com/lakers/news/071230_shortreaction.html
Goofing around.
Laker have a great games coming up, they have
Sixers-We can blow them out
Pacers-We can beat them too
Mephis- We CAN BLOW THEM OUT
Hornets- Not gonna be that tought but if we play good, we can win
Bucks- We can beat them easly
Mephis- WE CAN BLOW THEM AGIN
Sonics- Can beat them easly
THAN THE SUNS- GONNA GO 3-0 baby and its home
PS: I WISH THEY WIN ALL OF THOSE GAMES(IT BE SWEET RECORD 27-11)
And after the Suns is Denver. 6 of them of home games and 3 are away games.
They should win all of them to prove that this team can stay consistent .
Not even one lost.
Portland has shown it’s possible when you discipline yourselves.
The came out cheery and jolly with the shorts. Time to get back to business.
Bad coaching (as usual)…ridiculous uniforms…
Kobe sure missed a lot of shots! There were so many missed layups - Lamar had several easy ones that he blew. At least he hit a few 3’s for a change. He had a few air balls too. The bench was a non-factor. Walton, Vlad Rad, Sasha - pretty bad! I hope this is not a playoff preview.
The officiating was pretty lousy. Reminds me of the old days when officials were always so pro Celtic. Very sickening!
The whole team played bad. Definitely a team loss. Avery i know Kobe is your favorite Boy but you have to give it to him even if it hurts. He went 6-25, that is 24%. Ray Allen also did well against him. Luke he only played 13 minutes. You gave Kobe a pass on the GS game and that was a gift to kobe i thought, but xmas is over.
That being said, I am not down on Kobe. This loss is a good loss for PJ becuase they have four days of practice where they need to get better and they know they aren’t championship level.
There is a reason why this site was getGarnett.com.
KG is a fantastic player. KG and KB would be the most frightening duo on the NBA, even more than KB and Shaq. Too bad those retired SOB players of the Celtics did not make this deal happen to.
It’s hard to imagine not seeing the Celtics on the finals. Spurs is the only qualified team in this league to beat them at this point in time.
Lakers need a huge caliber player by the deadline to be able to compete on the playoffs. Yes, we might win the first phase but, I have hard time believing this young team has the guts to get to the conference finals. We’ll see.
Say I’m just making excuses all you want, but it was a distraction. From watching that video and hearing the guys talk about it, you can tell some of the guys weren’t feeling it. And that was before the game. Going out there in front of 20,000+ people and prob having to hear it from the Celtics players can completely get you out of your comfort zone. Especially with a young team. It was apparent cause they took them off at halftime. Once that got in their heads, you can’t just shake it off.
This game was extremely disappointing. This game was supposed to be a measuring stick to see how good we are. Instead of coming in with a clear mind and trying to ignore the distractions, we add those stupid shorts. Even Tony Allen said after the game that the Lakers looked like clowns and didn’t take this game seriously.
Don’t get me wrong, they Celtics are better than us, but we are not as bad as we looked last night. We missed a lot of easy shots, and Kobe missed shots he usually makes. We also just got Kwame and Luke back, so I’m not shocked by the lack of chemistry.
Anybody still want to praise Kupchak???
STD = Every single Laker that stepped on the court. They ALL played horrible. They had no energy tonight and couldn’t match the intensity of Boston.
Giving the Celtics extra motivation for last nights game prob wasn’t the best idea either. West basically saying KG wasn’t fun to watch. Kobe saying Allen wasn’t a pure 3 pt shooter.
After we beat the Jazz, I said that we all the pieces to win and win now. However, it would come down to coaching.
Three minutes into the game, Phil should have called a time out, pulled everyone in and told them to keep pounding the ball inside first and then out!
Kobe, keep driving to the hole, draw contact, or dish out to AB or Ariza.
Also, Lamar, please for f#$k sake, DO NOT SHOOT THE BALL FROM THE OUTSIDE!
HOW HARD IS THAT?????????????????????????????
rofl…
Lakers beat Suns - praise Mitch
Lakers lose to Celtics - bash Mitch
the finicky Lakers fans . . .
(Have an objective opinion, and stick with it; but dont re-evaulate your opinion every game)
Was it Mitch who went 6-25??? The rest of the lakers didn’t do to much better. By the way, why don’t you start off the new year right by apologizing to Mitch(u don’t have to praise him). Because you cussed him out for not trading Bynum. Mitch is classy. He will forgive you. And you can start off the new year with a clean slate.
Get Artest or JO NOW!!! I’m sorry, when your playing teams of this caliber and get Spanked on your own HOME COURT and then the embarassing SHORTS-SHORTS(was ISAIAH THOMAS on the floor)for LUCK,PLEASE!If you would have just been you then OK but to come out there and make light of game that is important to Laker fans worldwide by teasing the best team in the NBA and then getting the SH%$ out of you.
Luke, Sasha, Odom, Kwame, Mihn, Turiaf and Rad can go.
Mitch do your job, get rid off one some of the players above and bring quality help to this team.
Yes we are lately playing well, but this team will not be a contender this season. Celtics kicked our but last night for the second time. Yes we can beat them in the regular season, but the Lakers do not have what it takes to beat a contender on a playoff series.
Remember when the Lakers lose again, the whole Kobe trade demand will start all over again.
they dont deserve respect…i respected them b4 they played us…now that i saw them play i know why they win so much…the nba wants them to win..didnt you see all those little girl fouls?…when bynum blocked tony allen i think(all ball no contact)and they called a foul…the charge on fisher over the three point line…
just like the pheonix suns, theyre getting love from the refs…
you know an NBA team is favored to win when they complain for everyplay ….
R U Serious? your boy took 2 shots… Thats right 2 shots!!! He can only score when someone creates for him. When they guard him on the pic and roll he is useless otherwise. I would much rather have a guy who tried and failed than someone who never tried at all. The line forms after you to praise mitch, I think you might be the only one there tho.
I hate those shorts! Lakers lossed because of those ugly, uncomfortable, disgusting shorts! Why didn’t they just put them in tinkerbell outfits! If the Laker management wants to go retro do it with the jerseys. This was our only other chance to beat Boston and Laker management made our players a laughing stock. Even Rick Fox was taking pictures and laughing! Bad, Bad, Bad decision by Laker Management!
The Lakers looked like they didn’t care about this game. My coach always told me that if you are unable to score and your having an off nite too hustle your but off on defence. The Lakers looked like they just gave the game away. Poor showing and they better win big against Philly.
Yes the lakers played horrible, but that was the worst officiating I have seen all season. It looked like the lakers got homered on thier own court. pathetic
phantom, read my comments much closer next time and you won’t be called phandumb again. I said the rest of the lakers did not do too much better.
Officiating?Though I did not see the game,I caught the highlights and it did seem kinda suspect but they shouldn’t have came out looking like Isaiah in ‘84(INDIANA),SAD!I’m glad to see Lakernation on the same page as far as THE REFEREES DO WANT THE CELTICS TO WIN IT ALL AND THEY WILL BUT NEXT SEASON(KEEP EVERYONE,except Kwame)THE PACK RULEZ!!!
Crittenton is all for the highlight reel only. He got minutes in non garbage time and did nothing but turn the ball over trying to go behind the back all the time. Doesn’t anyone else think he looks like a midget with his short arms?
You said negative things about bynum and wished he was traded. Do you want to trade Crittenton too???
ab4sure,
What, does the truth hurt?
I guess you are still Phandumb. Please read my full comments instead of just the first sentence. Ask your mom if you are unable to read big words, can’t hold your hand but she will. Honestly, u seem not to be able to read posts fully and respond like you never even read them.
Calm down brother.
Who’s yelling??? I am just thankful your comments don’t originate from me.
ab4sure, your always right about everything and everyone else is wrong thats why your only on this website to rebuttle everyones comments. You should be running the Lakers instead of the buss family. your opinions mean nothing and no one here cares what you say. people are here to speak freely about their opinions so just shut your pie whole
Dude, you got so much anger in you… you need to get a girl and have some angry sex to release the tension instead of taking up the a$$ from lakers first.
We played a horrible game and what made it worst was those pathetic short shorts, we seriously couldn’t make a freaking shot it was just sad, hopefully we could win the next game and move on from this sad lost.
The Lakers always have these types of bad games. They dominated Phoenix and Utah and then come out with a weak performance. Andrew got about 10 easy lob dunks combined in the PHX and Utah games but got a big fat 0 against Boston.
All they did against Boston was pass around the perimeter. This game reminded me of the worst game I’ve ever seen in person which was last year against Dallas when we lost by 37 at home.
phandumb… hopefully your ignorance will stay back in 2007.
oh drake you speak for everyone… lol.. hardly..
You said “people are here to speak freely about their opinions so just shut your pie whole”
what an idiot… think about this comment.. LOL does it make sense???.. lol
WELL AB, AGAIN I AGREE WITH YOU…I THINK ALSO ALL THE HYPE AND THE CHANGE IN UNIFORMS WAS WAY TOO MUCH PRESSURE FOR THIS YOUNG TEAM TO PERFORM…BUT YOU KNOW ITS GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR US. WE KNOW THAT THERE IS STILL ALOT OF WORK TO BE DONE….WE WILL CONTINUE TO IMPROVE!!! OH AND YES,KB24 WAS AWEFUL(CANT BELIEVE I SAID THAT!)BUT IM OK WITH THAT…I JUST WANT HIM TO CONTINUE TO BE A GOOD LEADER FOR THIS YOUNG TEAM!!!! LAKERS WILL RISE AGAIN AND IT WONT BE LONG EITHER!!!!!!!!!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR LAKER FANS…2008 WILL BE A DAMN GOOD YEAR FOR OUR TEAM!!!!! STAY POSITIVE EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ab4sure, for sure if we get anything, i mean some team sees the same thing in critt as u do, and trades their good player for critt, we might have better chance of winning against any team.
btw, shouldn’t minnosota regret right now for being the worst team in the league trading Garnet? I understand their are in the “development stages”, but does this team have any future with these guys? I can go up to Minnosota’s FO and say you should have traded Garnett to us, it’s good for me, and minnosota’s record would have been better right now with any 2-3 Lakers we have instead of 6 untalented boston players. they sure miss garnett, don’t they? Some days, I, as a Laker fan do too.

your the one name calling but i’m the ignorant one? I hope you grow up in 08 and get a clue!!!!
it is not like u to play a victum.
I can’t believe Minnesota’s owner hasn’t already fired Kevin McAhole for making the Twolves a laughing stock. I wonder if Stern and the NBA paid him off for letting then resurrect their beloved Celtics. How Disgusting!
We need another piece guys. Straight up..
This game was basically our measuring stick and it shows tonight that for us to compete at the next level, we need another piece.
As far as the short-shorts go, he unless the Celts were doing it themselves we shouldn’t have done it. As a player it would have gotten to mentally if they were taunting about the shorts.
yeah some highlight… that is just a taste of what he is going to give. And the taste you will have is crow… lol… imagine u wanted to trade both Critt and Bynum and others for JO.
