Five teams are within 1/2 a game from being the top seed in the west (L.A. Lakers, San Antonio, New Orleans, Dallas, Phoenix), and a lost could almost automatically drop you from say #1 to #6. So even if the Lakers do end up being a 5th or 6th seed, it is way more respectable than it has been in many many years past.
