BREAKING NEWS! Gasol officially traded to Lakers for Kwame!
ESPN: The Memphis Grizzlies will send Pau Gasol and a future second-round pick to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, the unofficially retired Aaron McKie , the draft rights to Pau Gasol’s brother Marc and future first-round picks in 2008 and 2010, NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.
It is believed that the Lakers would need to arrange a sign-and-trade for McKie to make the salary cap math work for the deal. McKie is not currently playing in the NBA but his rights are owneed by the Lakers.
According to The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal, which also reported the trade, the Grizzlies decided to move ahead with trading Gasol because the team felt it could not longer move ahead with him off or on the court — and that the acquisition of Brown, who is earning $9,075,000 in the last year of his contract, would provide the franchise salary cap relief.

About his particular future, he says that “it’s amazing to be in a team full of history as the Lakers as, but not only because of their past, but mainly because of the present, playing along with Kobe Bryant is a privilege which is not easy for most of the players in this league and there will be lots of opportunities to be in the playoffs and do great things in this league as I always wished, wining and fighting”.

is this true???? I havent read anything on ESPN. If It’s true then it makes the lakers a legit contender. Gasol not only rebounds but he also has an outside shot which means he can clear the lane for Kobe to Drive and can expand defenses so that Bynum can operate in the low post. If this deal pulls through then mitch has corrected himself

Ya it seems legit, I can’t believe we were able to pull this off by gicing up pretty much nothing, except for a young PG in Critt. Another beutiful thing about this trade is that if Phil decides to move Lamar to the 3 position, this can allow lamar to post up on smaller defenders and cause matchup problems, Lamar is gonna much more comfortable in the 3 position.

this is the best trade available to us. we made the right move and got ourselves a power forward instead of a point guard. this acquisition also comes at a reasonable cost. the loss is javaris, but considering his current contribution, he will not be missed, and we are already settled at the future pg position in farmar. this is a excellent trade.

now that i know the lakers are in good shape to contend for the championship, i just wanted to make a comment about kwame real briefly before he departs for good.
kwame brown is only 25, but as we can all see, he is probably the biggest bust in nba history. i watched this video on youtube back when he was in washington and he had a better game back then until he came to los angeles. i think because he was the #1 pick, he played harder early in his career, but his talents never emerged and as he was labeled as a bust and getting “booed” by fans, that made it even worse by decreasing his self-confidence. also, the injuries have caused him a great deal of trouble in the game. he also seemed to have gotten bigger, but not for the good.
anyways, heres the video of him back in his DC days where he played a bit better and actually tried harder than he does now.

Shaq786…Josh Smith is the one guy I”ve been hollering about for sometime. Its evident that Lamars days are numbered here with the salary he makes….14 mil per. Bynum’s extension will kick in ‘09′ season when Odoms fall off the the books. So either Odom will be taking a huge paycut, or he wont be around. I really think their gonna look to trade him this summer. Getting Gasol is basically saying the the LO experiment is over!
