The man who let down the Lakers Nation…

What can I say? I’m a selfish fan. Come on, admit it, when you first saw the split screen Kobe/Shaq ad you knew things would be insanely intense if the Lakers met the Suns in the post-season. Instead, we as a Lakers Nation were let down.

With flawless execution, the Suns beat - 2 years in a row - a Smush parker “run” Lakers squad… then to see the stupid desicion making by Nash, careless turnovers, and horrible execution… makes me angry as a fan the Suns are, yes I’m saying it, OUT of the post-season.

However, sometimes you can’t forget the trash talking the Suns did. The very man walking off the court in the picture said this about our Lakers after we destroyed them extremely early in the season:

“You mean the eight minutes he took over there to explain maybe one play that he probably didn’t run? Yeah, I was pretty upset,” D’Antoni said. “I thought he disrespected our players. But he likes to play mind games, and that’s fine. He might want to try to do it in playoff time when we bust them every year. We have them three more times. . . . That’s fine.”

Moral of the post: Karma is a Shaq coach D. Karma is a Shaq…

Larry “Legend” Bird drops mad love for KB24

One of the all time greats drops major respect to our very own, and this year’s soon-to-be-announced MVP, Kobe Bryant:

KB24.com: Indiana Pacers president and NBA legend Larry Bird was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning, and the subject of clutch performers came up. Patrick asked Larry Legend if Kobe’s ability to hit big shots rivaled Michael Jordan. Bird responded with this:

“I think Kobe is the best player in our league and I think he’s been the best player for a long time, not to take anything away from anybody else. You know, somebody told me the other day that [Kobe] hasn’t won an MVP trophy, and it sort of made me feel like I want to go throw mine away, so that’s how much respect I have for the guy.”

For the record, Bird is a three-time NBA MVP, having won the award in 1984, 1985 and 1986.

Fisher would like to see Utah next round

Yahoo! Sports: Derek Fisher still has a soft spot for the Utah Jazz. That being the case, he’d love nothing more than a date with his former team in the second round of the playoffs.

“I’m pulling for them in terms of those being my guys, guys that I’m close to,” the Los Angeles Lakers’ point guard said after practice Wednesday. “I still consider a lot of them friends, I want them to be successful. It’s not because of the teams in terms of the basketball aspects or matchups.”

The Lakers, who completed a sweep of the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, will face the winner of the Houston-Utah series in the second round. The Jazz lead the Rockets 3-2 entering Game 6, to be played Friday night in Salt Lake City.

Should the Jazz win, they’d face the Lakers on Sunday at Staples Center to begin the second round. If the Rockets win, Game 7 of that series would be played Sunday in Houston, and the Lakers would face the winner Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

The Lakers have reached the second round for the first time since 2004, when they lost to the Detroit Pistons in the NBA finals to complete a dominating five-year era in which they won three championships.

Purple & Gold Family

The Los Angeles Lakers held the Nuggets in Game 4 to complete a somewhat unexpected sweep. The Lakers have shown us something that they haven’t shown us in a long time. A sense of unity; caring for the person next to them more than themselves.

A beautiful bond. A Purple and Gold Family, each person with an important job to ensure the well-being of the family.

Kobe Bryant - The captain of this team. The leader on and off the court. The Most Valuable Player in the entire League. His clutch play in the 4th quarter sent the Nuggets on a fishing vacation with Kenny “The Jet” Smith. His uncanny ability to get his teammates involved for the entire game has become more and more evident with each passing challenge.

Iverson praises Lakers fans… seriously!

L.A. Times: Did Allen Iverson really compare Lakers fans to traditionally more vocal ones in Sacramento and Utah?

Indeed he did, not long after the Nuggets where dropped by the Lakers in the first two games of their first-round series.

He apparently expected to see only latte-sipping, script-writing spectators. He stood corrected.

“You play here and you play in Utah, Sacramento, places like that, home court advantage means a lot,” Iverson said. “It’s tough enough to beat these guys anyways.”

The Lakers’ next two games are at Staples Center, either against Utah or Houston, on dates to be determined.

Kobe Bryant smiled when told what Iverson said.

“Really? Nice. I love hearing that,” he said. “L.A. fans have always had the reputation in the past sometimes of being real laid-back and not really getting into it like a Sacramento or Utah or something like that. That’s what we want to have here in this city, a team that you feel like you can get behind and something where they can come to the game and just let loose, get nuts and go crazy.”

TLN’s Playoff Report: Lakers vs. Nuggets [Game 4]

Can you say sweeeeep? Kobe can. Lamar can. Pau can. The Lakers can!

The Lakers took care of business, again Monday night with a 107-101 victory over the Nuggets. The Lakers continue to play well as a team, shooting 46% from the field, while only giving up 44% FGs. The Lakers were outrebounded again, but the difference came at the three-point line where the Lakers made twice as many threes as the Nuggets, 8 to 4. The Lakers also forced 16 turnovers tonight.

Enough with this series, who is ready to face the Jazz?

Now, the bests of the night…
