Will Andrew Bynum play in the playoffs?

L.A. Times: Here are questions that readers had for our Lakers beat reporter, Mike Bresnahan.

Question: If Andrew Bynum does come back in the playoffs, would it be fair to say he would come off the bench? I really believe he will be great coming off the bench to play with Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Ronny Turiaf and Co. I really believe that’s as good as any other team’s bench, and he won’t disrupt the court when Pau Gasol is in the lineup.

— George Margaryan, Burbank

Answer: Indeed, Bynum will come back as a reserve, which will only strengthen an already deep bench. It will also save from disrupting the flow of the starters, who have developed an obvious synergy over the last nine games.

The big question remains, however, when will the kid be back?

The Lakers have remained mystifyingly silent on the subject, although I personally don’t see him returning until at least the Western Conference finals

Well said. That pretty much sums it all up for the Lakers

Well better to have him back as a reserve than not have him at all. This will deepen our bench, and trevor should be coming back late 1st/early 2nd round so we can still win the title

I’ve been telling some of these haters the same thing. If we were at 100% it would be over, but I still think they can contend they just have to tighten up that D and they’ll be good to go.

I have the feeling Bynum will be back, maybe for the second round. I believe the lakers and PJ are playing this secret game waiting to launch him when a playoff series gets really hard.
We might take care of the Nuggets, so maybe the second round he might be very helpful.
    Go Lakers!

By the way, I am happy the Suns lost. I love to see D’antoni and Nash so pissed! hehehehehe

Well said Ignard, well said. [Sorry to burst your bubbles guys,] But what you others said about winning the NBA’s most famous ring is actually false. We need Bynum to have that aggressive big man that’s able to block, rebound, score in the paint and just overall, control tha paint. The Spurs had that (and still do) the Celtics have that, the Suns have that (well…not really), and all the rest of the NBA teams that have won a ring have all had that one tall timber to control the paint. Gasol can only score and I guess…rebound and block a little bit, but he doesn’t have that same swagger or strength that Bynum has when he blocks, boxes out, rebounds, etc. But it is true that we can go as far as the West Finals and possibly the NBA Finals without Bynum, but it’d be a whole lot easier if we had Bynum…(overall) also we can’t win the ring if we don’t have Bynum!

lakers are going to go all the way to meet the celtics in the finals with or without bynum, but having him would make it a lot harder for the other teams to even have a chance..if bynum does not play throughout the whole playoffs and in the finals the lakers can still win without him end of st0ry..i know the celtics are nice and all but i think they are overated..the big 3…who cares about the 3 the lakers have KOBE the best player in the game and with that we can kill the celtics..now kobe has good players surrounding him and their time is NOW and next year and the year after that!
