Ariza cleared to return soon

Ariza should be available during the second round. Will he be an impact off the bench? Sound-off in the comments and tell us what you think!

L.A. Times: It took a while, more than three months, but Trevor Ariza finally heard the magic medical words.

The Lakers’ forward was cleared to begin some basketball-related activities and will be available to play at some point in the second round of the playoffs.

“A week from now, I can start doing a little bit of contact. And then a week later I can start playing,” he said. “It’s definitely good news.”

A key defender at small forward, Ariza has been out since Jan. 20 because of a broken bone in his right foot. He is not allowed to dunk yet and can work only on individual skills such as shooting and dribbling over the next week.

An MRI exam Friday showed that the bone in his foot had healed to the point of being able to begin basketball exercises.

Ariza was a fixture on the Lakers’ second unit after being acquired from Orlando in November for Brian Cook and Maurice Evans. He was averaging 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 18 minutes in 24 games with the Lakers, who like his length and speed as a defender.

Ariza was on the Lakers’ bench, in a suit, for Game 3 on Saturday against Denver.

Bynum should come back by mid 2nd Round-early 3rd Round. While Ariza will be playing by May 12th or so, which I think is about mid 2nd round, at best we’ll play about 3 or so games (including Game 4 of our current series) without him in our rotation, in which I think we’ll survive. So lets hope Bynum gets at least 2 games before the West Finals so that way he’ll be able to be in better shape to go against the Spurs/Hornets/Mavs (at best I’d want us to go against the Mavs, but the Hornets are good for us too, but he Spurs are most likely going to get into the 3rd Round), HOPEFULLY!!!!!

As much help as he will be, we don’t really need him in the 2nd round. In the WCF we will definentely need him to guard ginobili or parker though.

    QFT!

But yeah.. I love Ariza, and I think Bynum and Ariza coming off of the bench will be such a more supreme bench level considering Walton, Farmar, and Vujacic’s development.

I think he will be very helpful for the next round. If everything continues to go as planned, the Lakers will play the Jazz and Ariza could be helpful in guarding Deron Williams and bothering him with his length and quickness. You could also put him on Kyle Korver and have him just shadow him all game long. Not letting him get a shot off!

yes i agree with you because when we first played dem in salt lake city deron williams was getting thrue fisher like nothing dey couldnt stop him so thats why we need ariza to come back because we dont wanna put kobe on him because it might get kobe in early foul trouble and we dont want that to happend.
so it would be great if ariza could come back for the second round.
