Andrew Bynum to have surgery

Hope he can have speedy recovery for the begging of the 2008-2009 season…

L.A. Times: The Lakers announced today that center Andrew Bynum will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this week.

The procedure is scheduled for Wednesday in New York and involves cleaning some rough spots and fraying on the underside of his kneecap. It will be performed by Dr. David Altchek.

The team will release a report of the surgery and estimated timeline of return on Wednesday.

Bynum has been out since Jan. 13 with a bone bruise in the knee and a subluxation of the kneecap — a brief dislocation that popped back into place.

So this basically means all this wait for nothing. Should of been done months ago.

if he is not available, then we’ll have alot of trouble in the finals with just pau as our legitimate center.i just hope DJ MBENGA and Chris Mihm will step up for us.

Ok, so he’s out this year. That’s a given.

My concern is will it be a kind of injury like Amare Stoudimire, Gilbert, or Dwayne Wade where they are out a full season?

i hope kobe talks sh!t about mbeng and mihm, so they can start playing like bynum in the WCF! our only legit back up center right now is turiaf.

He’s not a legit back up center he’s too small. If you don’t count Mbenga (and I don’t blame you) then we have no legit center.

    Final solution time.

he will come back with a new and improved knee
this summer the only things he will need to do is work out, as in running, doing squats, and benching

I heard the surgery is the kind that is just cleaning the area, nothing else, Baron Davis had the same kind last season and came back within 2 weeks.

really?! i hope thats the case. it would be awesome if he came back in the nba finals, off the bench. all i want him to do is clog the lane and provide an inside defensive prescense.

why didnt he just have this done 4 months ago?

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 pancho

I had this surgery a year ago,not only do they clean it up,it’s the best oportunity to further examine the damage

Wow, and I thought he would be back in the Western Conference Finals..

Well whatever, we just have to work with what we have. We can’t depend on Bynum.

really DJ is our only center because Pau is just a PF

jeez, what terrible injury analysis we got

It’s no blame to the training staff, they had it right just Bynum isn’t healing as most do with this injury. Sure they could have done it back in January and given up on any chance of him returning this season, or waited and given him an oppertunity to come back.

I doubt it will be that bad because I’m pretty sure all of those guys had a torn ligament. For Bynum they are just cleaning up some minor stuff.

what i can say is he will be back by training camp. this type of surgery takes 2 to 3 months of rehab. it is just sad that they did not do this from the begining. And Andrews injury is not like amare
amare was an ACL tear, thats normally carrer ending. what Andrew has is nothing like that is a whole lot minor.

Even if we don’t win a championship this season, its still been a great season, because we know Kobe is staying and we can contend for titles for years to come

i almost forgot how badass he was becoming before he went down. we’ve had pau for so long now, the game play pretty much changed….

and when he comes back….imagine him at center…pau at pf….omg…

… and Lamar at SF. Also keep in mind his injury was a key move in getting Pau to come to LA… and getting rid of Kwame Brown. The Lakers are good for 2 reasons this year, 1) Acquiring Fish, Pau and Ariza in that order. 2) Letting go Cook, and Kwame. Just remember the injury was a blessing in disguise and now that Bynum will be back by next year hopefully we will be right where we need to be.

Suspect knees was a concern when Bynum was entering the league now, only a few season’s in and he’s having work done on his knees? I hope he comes back and strengthens his knees, and builds them up strong. There is no reason not to believe that he will be ready for next season. He can start by being the captian of the bench mob in 09…

I think Bynum is gonna be the future franchise player,I think next year is really gonna be his break out year and possible all star debut. If he healthy he’s a starter.

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 True Lakers Fan

and was amare’s a microfrature totaly different kind of procedure

  28. Gravatar Icon 28 Michael_23

IF the current Lakers squad of Kobe, LO, Pau and how Bynum was playing before he got hurt could all end up on next year’s all-star game.

    That would be so awesome!
