This is an interesting debate. A few years back, Ray Allen opened up his mouth and spoke about Kobe Bryant and his “feud” with Shaq. Allen had some harsh comments and over the years, the two have been known to “not” like eachother.
Here is what Ray had to say…
“He’s going to be very selfish,” Allen said of Bryant. “And he feels like he needs to show this league and the people in this country that he is better without Shaq. He can win championships without Shaq. So offensively, he’s going to jump out and say, ‘I can average 30 points. I can still carry the load on this team.’
Now, perhaps more than ever, Ray will regret his words.. or will he? Bottom line is, it’s ironic that Kobe’s first shot at a title will have to go through Allen and the Celtics! Here is a glimpse of what Kobe does - unlike Allen - Kobe does his talking on the court, not off.

Why did they ever fire Paul Sunderland? Joel Myers is a former San Antonio Spurs play by play announcer before he got the most prestigious job in the world. Sundy was a SoCal guy if I’m not mistaken and I thought he did a great job calling the game. He was a Laker fan.

Ray Allen is typically known throughout the league as one of the classiest players out there. His comments, though rude, ended up having a lot of truth to them (unfortunately). Kobe definetly came out with a chip on his shoulder after Shaq was traded, and Allen was just calling him out on it. Remember guys, Kobe has never been the most popular guy in the league. As talented as he is, a lot of players especially in the past have had beef with Kobe.
It’s cool though, because now Kobe has the opportunity to shut down Ray Allen and prove why he has evolved into the player that no one, including Allen, predicted he would become: a capable and trusting leader. Kobe’s taken it to a level that Allen will never reach, and it’s up to him to prove it on the centerstage this Thursday.
Also, if I remember correctly, Ray also predicted that Kobe would ask out after reevaluating his situation.
Although his words did have a lot of truth to them, I’m not sure if it was such a good idea. For one, it doesn’t seem warranted. Secondly, I think Kobe’s the last person I would want to piss off. What, did Ray forget that they both play the same position?
Another thing unrelated to the feud. I sort of predict Ray playing well. Not that I want him to, but Kobe does have a tendency to cheat off his man to help. A lot. We saw it with Brewer and Bowen. And though I’ve seen Kleenex’s more durable than Ray’s ankles, I still wouldn’t like to give him open looks. I can’t wait for Sasha to give Ray fits. Or Kobe to demolish him.
