Memphis Owner Now Questions Gasol Trade

Whoops! Too late! Haha! In all honesty, how many times can you say in hindsight you were wrong? Yes, to everyone else BUT the Lakers it looks and appears lopsided, but seriously, Kwame brought the Wizards Caron Butler and no one cared then. Hmmm…

Yahoo!: For months now, maybe the man most responsible for Los Angeles’ championship run has been ripped over the Pau Gasol trade. The mere mention of suspicions over Memphis’ motives gets the Grizzlies owner’s voice rising on the telephone, gets him going on the gossip that suggests something unseemly happened on the way to a Lakers renaissance.

Michael Heisley starts to ask, well, who is ripping Minnesota for the Kevin Garnett trade?

How about Seattle and Ray Allen?

“Is anybody jumping on Popovich in San Antonio because he traded that center to Houston for virtually nothing?” Heisley wondered.

Heisley was talking about Luis Scola, the forward, whom had been a long-ago draft pick of the Spurs. Only problem was, Scola never played a minute for the four-time champions. Gasol was the Grizzlies’ franchise player, and it was Spurs coach Gregg Popovich saying on the record what most of his peers had only the guts to say without attribution: What in the world was Memphis management thinking on the Gasol trade?

  2. LD2k says:

No one cared about the poor Lakers when Kwame didn’t work out…

  3. There are only 16 players in this league that liked the trade…The whole laker team and Pau himself!

I sorta miss J-Critt. Best of luck to him! I’m just scared he’s gonna own farmar when the Memphis Teddy Bears play us next season.

It’s the GM and the owner’s job to work together in getting trades done. I guess the owner was kept out of the loop and just found out recently that Gasol is playing for the Lakers.

  9. Rpoc says:

Obviously. This was one of those trades that wouldn’t even be accepted on a video game. It’s so fraking unrealistic. Like the Rasheed trade. After letting previous expiring contracts rot away, ’bout time the Lakers FO capitalized.

It’s a damn good redemption for that Kwame Bust trade. It also proves that all this team needed was ONE good big man. Just one. From .500 to contending status. Bynum and Gasol proved that. One big man with Kobe and Odom does that much.

And now the Lakers have two for the future. Sick.

  10. Michael24 says:

wow now they barely realized they made the wrong move ahhahaahahah too late gasol is here to stay for a long time.

  11. Jason says:

We got the better end of the deal but the Memphis Grizzlies didn’t get as shafted as people think. The Lakers only got Pau Gasol but we gave up the rights to his younger brother in Spain along with a collection of other things. When Marc Gasol comes into the NBA, he will be paid considerably less than Pau, and by that time, Rudy Gay and their other young players will have time to develop into primary and secondary options. Marc is not as skilled, but will serve his purpose as being a skilled big man who can cause matchup problems and alleviate pressure on other players. Plus, if we can pick up Ronny, Sasha, Fish, Walton, and Farmer late in the first and second rounds, as long as they pick well, our draft picks to them are very valuable.
