For the most part it was pretty much unwatchable, seeing as it contained what could arguably be the worst officiating I have seen in recent memory. It was truly unreal. I can’t even really even begin to describe it.
The Celtics shot 28 more free throws than the Lakers.
To give them credit, Boston did play very good defense, but give me a break. No way in Hell did the Lakers only get fouled on three shot attempts*. And then there’s all those ticky-tack fouls that were called on the Lakers. It’s one thing if as a referee you are going call ticky-tacks, but you know, you might want to call them on both teams.
As far as I’m concerned, there isn’t much to analyze. The refs gave it to them. I’m definitely not a big fan of blaming losses on the refs (I’m really not) but this was just too ridiculous. I’ve never been this disgusted after watching an NBA game**.
In spite of all that though, Kobe never quit and didn’t let his team quit either. He almost led the Lakers to the greatest comeback in Playoff history and I think that just makes what the refs did that much more reprehensible.
*I’m not sure how many free throws were on shot attempts, but doing a little math on their ten free throw attempts based on memory of where each free throw came from, I came up with three.
**I did however miss that one game I think last year or two years ago in Cleveland where Lebron led a “miraculous” comeback or any of the Dallas/Heat finals games so those might be worse.
The Michael Jordan Award for MVP of the Game: The referees. Kobe Bryant is not unstoppable after all. All you have to do foul Kobe and his Lakers and watch while the refs don’t call a thing.
The Dominique Wilkins Award For Highlight of the Game: I don’t know. Probably some play where somebody on the Lakers drives and gets fouled and makes it in and gets and 1 and nothing.
Runner Up: Lamar Odom throwing the ball at the fallen PJ Brown.
The Vince Carter Award for the Most Half Hearted Performance of the Game: Lamar Odom, I guess, seeing how he wasn’t on the floor at the end.
The Linas Kleiza Award for Random Bench Player Coming Out of Semi Obscurity and Destroying the Lakers: Leon Powe.
Final Thought: I hate the Celtics so much. Roger Federer got destroyed and the Lakers lost. What a crappy day. I apologize if this post game sucks.

I can say it proudly, we beat the celtics tonight, because if you take away their last three fouls, which was given to them, we won the game.

Take this into account, we actually outscored them 40-34 in the paint (we had 41fgs in the paint compared to their 23), yet still only got 10 freethrows compared to their 38. We were the aggressor. Unbelievable.

There is no adjective that we as fans of the Los Angeles Lakers can use to describe how abyssmally horrible that game was officiated. AND despite all of it Kobe & Co. were almost able to win the game at the end. The Paul Pierce foul at the end was garbage, almost as much as him faking the injury which i noticed was not in the post game analysis. There is no person on the planet aside from Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan himself who could “sprain” their knee and come out and play like it didn’t happen, and don’t give me that bullsh*t that the adrenaline will carry you through the game. Watch Game 3, I will not be suprised if the refs give the little stupid fouls to the Lakers and none to the Celtics. This is David Stern’s plan to get the Finals to go seven games and raise the rating so the NBA can get money. Already the ratings are up 14% from last year and we all know he wants more.

when the begining of the ball games, lakers were winning with momentums! and the ref started to call all the little touch-fouls against lakers. by the time boston regain the lead, they have homecourt advantage cruise contol “on”. which is very difficul for any team to catch up in the playoff against such an excellent team.

Great point. Jeff Van Gundy should not be covering the Finals. I was not intrigued one bit by his broadcast and his insulting remarks questioning why Kobe made the First All Defensive Team. Keep in mind that the balder and skinnier Van Gundy has no championships in the bag and neither does his brother. Kobe may have not been himself tonight, but he should be credited for trying to pull it off on the offensive end for his contribution of 30 points and 8 assists. That’s great! The Lakers managed to come back from a 24-point deficit to be within two points during the last minute thanks to the MVP.
Also, I gotta agree with MambaKB24. If Od’s gets caught one more time for weed he will be out of the NBA. He needs to get his act together because the way he is playing it’s like he’s abusing something before games. Od’s earned 10 points and 8 rebounds, way below his double-double season average of 14.6 pts and 10.10 rbs.
I still must give props to the Lakers. The Lakers were able to make an incredible turnaround by facilitating the Celtics hasty thought of victory. This game took me back to 1985 at the Memorial Day Massacre where the Lakers were destroyed in Finals Game 1 (although I was not yet born, I vividly can remember watching it twice on ESPN classic). After that loss, the Lakers managed to win the championship. Anything is possible and it has been done before - I smell a comeback. I am proud to be a Laker fan and know that my team will not let me down =)

WOW! We must be on the same level because you took the words right out of my mouth. I was the first to say it in my comments in the blog after the first game and I’m gonna say it again, we can beat the Celtics but we can’t beat the refs. Their up 2-0 in the series. This series is like the Miami - Dallas NBA finals. David Stern is gonna reward Garnett with the Trophy like how he did for Shaq in Miami as part of a Thank You for doing so much for the league as their careers are winding down. Boston is only built for 2 good years at best and the Lakers are practically built for the next 8 years. He knows even if the Lakers aren’t gonna win it all this year, they’ll still be favorites to win it all next year so mine as well give it to the Old Leprechauns this year because the Celtics are headed for lottery ville soon and this will only help the NBA market in Boston and keep the fake champs in the East Coast. If the Lakers are favored by more than 6, the NBA is setting it up for them to win. I just checked and the Lakers are giving 8 1/2 to Boston. That means everyone jumps on Boston to cover that spread. i attended the game and by far it was the worst officiating i have ever seen. when a man that no one in boston even knows named powe drops 21 and drives the whole court for a uncontested dunk something is wrong. we didnt get one defensive rebound all 4th quarter till about 5 min left which was terrible. we dont d up and we dont rebound until the axe is right about to cut our heads off. then we play lights out basketball for 5 min and erase a 20+ point lead. it was sick thank god boston fans are the nicest people ever cause no one talked any {Profanity isn't allowed on theLakersNation.com -- Please go back and edit your comment. The Lakers did this to themselves. That stretch of what it seemed like rediculous one way officiating, the Lakers took it to the basket once, when Boston kept pounding it in every time. The Lakers stood around taking jump shots and turning the ball over, while the Celtics went into the paint. Other than Turiaf’s block on Powe, the other foul calls were legitmate. It just seemed one sided because the Lakers didn’t give themselves the opportunities to draw and fouls.
You would think after the Tim Donaghy scandal the NBA would have been purged of corrupt officiating, but after watching the first two games of the finals it is clear that this is not the case. Sad but true. Unfortunately, throughout history the Celtics have always been the darlings of the league office. Year after year they’ve had their whistle blowing Celtics to help screw their opponent and give their beloved Celtics the extra push they needed to win the title. Read a recent book on Wilt where they refer to Mendy “the Celtic” Rudolph, long time NBA head official. It took a truly great team of Magic & Kareem to finally overcome the whistle blowing leprechans.
Obviously, its time to get their beloved Celtics back on top. The word has come down from Stern, and the fix is in. The refs got their marching orders and the line is being towed.

Yes, I think we (the LakerNation) saw everything…from the Refs dirty calls & game, Powe having a break out game to the Old dirty bastard, David Stern sitting in the arena smiling at his B-ish Garnett & Drama Queen Pierce. I don’t know but the only time I have seen his old a$$ (Stern) in L.A. during the whole season…from when the season started in Oct to Now was only “ONCE”….when his fat a$$ came to present KOBE with the MVP trophy only! The refs were definitely unfair. You should have seen staples center in frsutration with every single whistle against us. SO MUCH frustration that THREE fights from different parts of the arena broke out between lakers and celtics fans! One after the other. Punches were exchanged, chairs (the ones behind the free throw line) were thrown, and a celtics jersey was kicked and stomped to the ground :). Oh man, if you went to the home court advantage, you would know what I’m talking about.They were definitely the highlights of the game. Coincidentally, we caught up within single digits by the end of the third fight. My guess is that if one more fight broke out, we would have totally won.
Moving along, we definitely have to our next three games at home if we even want to consider a chance in taking the series considering how we did games 1 and 2. The last time we came back from a 0-2 in the playoffs was against the spurs a few years back with fisher’s 0.4. The tables have definitely turned and now we’re the underdogs.
P.s. I wasn’t born yet to know what the lakers vs celtics rivarly was to hate the celtics but I’m starting to.

I still believe and we all should believe that we can win this finals series.I just said that because of what i see in the final minutes of the 4th Quarter, i saw the lakers who attack the basket with their up tempo game. And seeing Kobe make his shots inside,. I think Boston’s D stoll has some flaws.

my boy Paul Pierce is going back home to face his lakers at staples.. in front of the very eyes of magic and im gonna bet we’re in for a wild ride! Game 3 will be a dynamo…too much pierce too much garnett and too much allen plus one tenacious D.
