Artest considering opt-out? To Lakers?

This is the latest on Ron Artest from Hoopsworld. I know we’re in the finals and nearly halfway there to making history, but this is an interesting article which mentions the Lakers. Ron-Ron a Laker?

Hoopsworld: It’s a little trickier with the Lakers considering the contracts they have committed to Vladimir Radmanovic and Luke Walton. Since neither has made a particularly high impact this season, LA may be open to the idea despite the financial repercussions.

Coach Phil Jackson has always been interested in Artest. Imagine the team currently playing in the NBA Finals with the addition of Artest along with the return of Andrew Bynum. Artest also has a strong relationship with both Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom.

Ron Artest is going to be very very expensive, but I fully support the management in spending whatever amount of their own money they have to in order to make it happen.

Not as expensive as you may think. He did say he would play for New York for the MLE. He’s more about winning than money unlike Garnett.

If Artest does opt-out, all the Lakers could offer him would be the MLE. This is because the Lakers will more than likely be over the salary cap next season.

However, even though the Lakers could offer the MLE, because they would be over the salary cap, the MLE offered is actually MLE x 2 because the Lakers would have to pay a dollar for dollar luxury tax, and who knows if Buss wants to pay even more luxury tax then what he is already going to be paying.

This series against Boston really shows how much we need D and Artest probably would shut down Pierce.
I think he would be an amazing addition the the Lakers.

    Do it Mitch!

This is great news. We just need to find suiter for Space Vlad and Fluke. Salary combine = $12 mills. Did you all see the Best Damn Sport interview with Artest? That was for Mitch and Phil to view. We need Defense big time. Good luck tonight. Lets take game 6.

Luke and Radman will be hard to trade because of their lengthy contracts. Luke has 5 years left and about $25M left. Radman has 3 years left and about $20M left.

    GET ARTEST!!!!!!TRADE VLADE, LUKE, MIHM

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 Smush Walton

I never really liked Ron Artest, but I’ve seen the light!

GET ARTEST! and GET A QUALITY POINT GUARD!

Lamar needs to be moved to the bench. His best years are behind him so if you have to use hium as trade bait then that is no big loss.

Trade Smush Walton & VladRad, for two peanut vendors and a parking lot attendent if you have to, but get them OUT OF HERE!!! Our three biggest recent improvements were getting rid of Smush Parker, Kwame Brown and Brian Cook. Getting rid of Smush Walton And VladRad will also be huge improvements.
