Richard Jefferson for Odom?
NJ.com: It was about a year ago that Rod Thorn dialed Mitch Kupchak and floated Richard Jefferson-for-Lamar Odom. The conversation, we’re told, didn’t last long. Not interested, Mitch said. Besides, I’m a little busy right now, trying to dodge the molotov cocktails Kobe keeps tossing through my office window.
Care to bet the Nets try again?
And want to bet they stay on the phone a little bit longer?
We said a few months ago that the Lakers are going to find out one thing about their team, with the postseason pending — whether a frontline of 7-1, 7-0 and 6-10 is the matchup nightmare that it appears to be on paper; or whether they really need another type at the three-spot.
Though we never saw that frontcourt, it’s pretty clear where the Lakers are heading. Odom took the biggest hit in the aftermath of Game 6. If L.A. moves anybody, it shall be him, because Pau Gasol is best suited for the four-spot anyway.
But is RJ the right replacement at the 3? If the Lakers figure to meet up with Paul Pierce again next June, there’s no one better. Nets fans know that better than anyone.

RJ is better than lamar…he can shoot, penetrate and shoot 3’s..spreading the floor for kobe bynum gasol….he may not be as good a passer as lamar but we dont need him to be…with him he will be an upgrade over lamar because he can defend(lebron,pierce,etc)…plus he is not afraid to drive and finish at the rim…also he is not a headcase like artest who at anytime could run into the stands and destroy the whole teams season…lamar has had his chance to be the “third” or “second” option of our team and has not met expectattions…RJ will be GREAT

Jefferson, like Odom, is a big ol’ softie. His skills are also too similar to Kobe’s. He’s a typical midsized athletic swingman. We give up Lamar’s skills and get only slightly more consistant on offense.
Artest is the answer. Ron Artest. Its a no-brainer. He’ll submit himself to Kobe and he’ll instantly make us tougher. The example he sets on defense, along with Kobe, will trickle down to Farmar, Sasha, Andrew and the rest of the youngsters. Also, we forget, Ron-Ron is a top 15 offensive player in this league.
Do you see us going from WCCs to World Champs by swapping LO for Jefferson? No way.

Thats an airtight defensive lineup (on the left hand side at any rate.) The only possible defensive liability is Gasol, but he’ll have big ‘Drew reaching over to help out.
Ironically enough (and its been said repeatedly) Caron Butler would be another perfect fit. Goddamn it Kwame.

I would wait…I’d rather have Artest at SF at the mid-level if he’ll do it. That way you get to keep LO and extend him at half of what he makes now and bring him off the bench as a 6 man. I don’t think he would have a problem with that seeing how he doesn’t have any aggression anyways.

I’d take Jefferson over Odom, but there’s others I’d rather have than RJ (but I’d take RJ over Artest). The reason this could work is the nets desparetly want to make a run on Lebron in 2010 and are trying to clear as much cap space as possible. Odom is 14 mil expiring contract.

Odom for RJ doesn’t make sense. I would think the Lakers could get more than that for Odom. I would rather stay put with Odom and take my chances with him than RJ.
Lets remember we were in the finals. We can’t just make moves just for the sake of “making moves”.

Amen Lakerfan. If it aint broke, don’t fix it. We were all in a deep depression about this time last year for a different reason. Things looked to stay the same, Kobe and a bunch of so-so player failing to get out of the first round. Since then, most of the players have shown great improvement and the future looks very bright. Barring injuries and with the help of home court advantage, the Lakers WILL finish the job next season. There is no reason to panic and look for wholesale change. I think this Laker squad is good enough to get it done.

attention all Laker fans. the lakers need a legitimate 3, pau gasol is taking the four next year which i think gasol can do a better job at that position than LO. so now you need, a thug, a brawler, LO isn’t. hence we need to desperately get ARTEST or The Matrix.
one more piece, and that’s a taller, well round point guard, right now fisher is a cool back up pg. but the lakers need a bigger,quicker point guard.

Was any of you guys around when James Worthy or Byron Scott played?Well in RJ’s defense,he’s that type of player…in other words,if we had to trade LO,this who is better suited for the Lakers.Name one person he hasn’t slammed on,now here’s a list of the ones he has Garnett,Shaq,Yao,Dwight,the Dunk on Mutumbo was THE #$%^!

I agree with M. Thompson of the Loose Cannons when he said earlier, that LO is better than RJ. RJ is not the outside shooter than Phil is looking for and to be honest RJ is not a consistent outside shooter.
Not to mention, RJ has 3 years left and about $42M left on his contract.
Why is everyone talking about RJ as if he is an old man. He is younger than LO. Actually, RJ turns 28 tommorow June 21st. So, that kills the argument about him getting older. LO turns 29 this year. Besides he avg over 22 a game and can defend better than Odom. Just look at NJ vs Celtics past matchups and look at what he did to Pierce. We love LO but he is not that consistent.

I bet walton would pop one when he hears this rumor haha. I think its an okay trade. I personally like odom on are team and I would prefer if he stayed. Ron artest would be a benefit for our team but I don’t think we could get him. The rumors that we explode and expand are the deals that don’t usually go down. So we can’t get our hopes up….plus bynum is coming back so we need to see how we do before we do anything. I’d rather have marion then jefferson as well. He is like lo and artest together. He can defend the 1,2, and 3. He can score. He is a pretty decent passer. He’s like a prince with a weird shot lol
