Artest on taking less money to play for contender: “Not in a million years”

Ron Ron had a little something to say about taking less money to play for a contender…

L.A. Times: Artest, 28, visited the Lakers’ locker room during the NBA Finals and has spoken glowingly of Kobe Bryant in the past, but he told the Mason and Ireland Show on KSPN-AM (710) that it “looks like I’m going to be a King next year” before saying he would “never” take less money to play for a championship contender.

“Not in a million years,” he said. “Actually, not in 10 million years.”

what a little b*tch, gueSs he’s gonna be selfish and take a couple more million.BUT 1 thing’s for sure,RON ARTEST DOES NOT WANT 2 WIN A RING,HE’S ONLY IN THE BUISNESS FOR THE MONEY!!!!!!

did anyone else here the interview on AM570? he said he would be willing to take less as long as he felt like a top tier player..

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 DoDoBallz

If I’m not mistaking he made a comment not to long ago that
he would play for less money. Now he knows there is a want for him
I guess his agent is doing the Business. He will more than likely
(because Mark Cuban gives that guap up)be a Maverick.Spur is a possibility but Pop would either bench him or Bowen. Either way
wherever this head case goes he will help that team.(If he doesnt
    destroy it first. Peace

This is exactly why I never had a huge desire for him to play for the Lakers. Veterans who rule out the possibility of taking less money to play for a contender does not deserve to be on the current Lakers team period.

    Two words: PUBLIC RELATIONS.

hey. mutombo is a free agent isnt he? get him instead of mihm and were good.

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 kb24 4life

    stupid…
that means he doesent love to play the game
and he does it just for the moneyy
c´mon ron, what are you talking about??
we are talking about a ring
and you are talking just about moneyy.. :(

Again,WE WANT PLAYERS THAT WANT TO BE APART OF LAKERNATION,STOP BEGGIN’ FOR PLAYER TO JOIN US!!!

GETCARONBACK.com,I heard Jaminson might leave Wiz,so that means Arenas will leave if that happens, meaning Caron will be in Kobe’s position when we had Smush.

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 Thuggishdeer

Dikembe Mutombo is a free agent should we get him to fill in the void that is MIHM?? would be nice to have a guy who can block shots and play other than mihm who is just free loading on the bench, might as well be a fan. AND FOR goodness sake trade luke, who cares if he knows the triangle, he cant shoot. trade him for another pick i dont care just do it

I don’t know why you guys are hating on someone who wants to make money. There is nothing wrong with making money. I mean if you guys hate on a player because he wants to make money, then guys should be pissed at Kobe (he makes max money). I say this because Kobe can opt-out of his contract next summer and resign for less (although he would be limited with how much less he could take - I believe he could only take 10% less.), thus allowing the Lakers to allocate salary to other quality players.

If Ron wants to go somewhere else that will pay him more, then so be it. We will move on to someone else.

And for everyone here that says “trade luke and radman”, don’t say it like it’s an easy thing to do. Luke has 5 years and about $26M left on his contract and Radman has 3 years and about $19M, so their lengthy contracts, especially Luke’s, make them hard to trade because other teams don’t want to inherit their big contracts.

LakersFirst, as usual, you bring up great facts.

And lets be real. Every player in the NBA is in it for the money.

I hate to get racial but…..WE NEED SOME ‘BROTHERS’ ON THIS TEAM……….HASLEM AND PIETRUS are more reasonable deals than ANY DEAL OUT RIGHT NOW!!!

Don’t sit here and tell me these 2 guys wouldn’t contribute and help BRING THAT TROPHY HOME!

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 gugy

    everybody wants money.
If Artest wants it, then hopefully the Lakers will offer it.

Mitch, figure out a way to dump Vlad, Mihn and Luke. That would help with Artest or anyone else better than those three stooges.

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 e

hmm, cant say im surprised, the only way we can get him is thru a trade and if not, i like the topic above this one..lamar for #2 pick..not a bad idea

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 Kobe8>24

so dude just plays for money and thats it?

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 candace parker

billy kupchak, what do you have to say

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 ab4sure

Its not that he won’t play for less in a million of years it is the way he says it. He was never one to say or do the right things. This guy is a problem child a problem i wouldn’t like to have. Never trade value for him only test drive him with a one yr. contract. And plz stop kissing Artest’s azz people… he is not Kobe.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 dub824

he changed his mind to 3 million years

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 Reggie

I can’t hate on Ron for asking for more money. How many people would take a pay cut at their jobs? You people are being selfish because ya’ll want your team to win. That is part of American culture, get as much money as you can.

  26. Gravatar Icon 26 dilip

you ppl saying u cant hate on him for taking more mony, wtf this is the NBA! The lowest contracts still make CRAZY MONEY< WAY MORE THAN THE TEAM NEEDS 700,000 a year is what the serious benchwarmers make, and THAT IS PLENTY, way more than what most ppl get
Nobody will remember a rich guy that did nothing, they will remember the ppl who did something (winning rings) remember derick coleman(first 100mill contract), does anybody remember him?
THats the point of livin baby, to be remembered (for doing good things)

srry i said team i meant player
