Hoopsworld Power Rankings: Impact of the Draft

Hoopsworld’s Eric Pincus came up with a great power rankings list of the entire NBA (with draft choices and recent trades in the mix). Eric listed the Lakers as #2, behind the top-of-the-list Celtics…

Hoopsworld: #2 Lakers - The Lakers would have liked a pick higher than 58 but the first rounder was well spent in Memphis’ hands after the Pau Gasol trade. LA chose Joe Crawford - hoping to curry favor with his father, NBA official Joey Crawford (no, he’s not the referee’s son).

Ah.. not really sure what to say.

with a few minor tweaks over the offseason and the progressing improvement from the younger players, the lakers should be a dangerous team next season with the return of bynum and ariza. i still think the lakers need to pursue a veteran PF to help strengthen the front court. the lakers only have bynum, gasol, odom, turiaf, and mihm. we can use another big body to bang inside just to play defense and rebound. with mihm still not looking 100% yet, another big body in the post wouldnt hurt. other than that and resigning sasha and ronny, i think the team will be as good as any.

    GO LAKERS!!

With the inside power game of Bynum, Gasol, & Odom the Lakers need outside shooters. If the Lakers can not provide from within their own ranks then what about James Jones. He is a free agent who can be signed for the Mid Level exception or less. Question is do we already have the outside shooter in Sasha or Ariza or Farmar or Vlad? James Posey would be an upgrade but it is doubtful that the Celtic won’t resign him.

    hoopsworld.com-
will look to trade Luke Walton, possibly with Chris Mihm to balance salaries. They re-sign Sasha Vujacic to a $22 million contract over five years. They also keep Ronny Turiaf for three years at $9.5 million. Guess who else returns at a discount? That’s right . . . Kwame Brown. Lamar Odom is on the team opening night, starting at small forward.

how can joey crawford be reated to joe crawford, joe is black, joey s white

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 Daryl Imhoff

Janaro Pargo would be a nice addition. I wonder if Kwame Brown is going to get any offers? If not and the Lakers have a roster spot he could be signed for a minumum money. He knows the triangle and he is a big body in the middle.

    can he play defense ?

  8. Gravatar Icon 8 kPoAbUe

lets sign probably james jones or trade for kapono.Lets sign kwame and see on january 30 2009 i want MItch to call some1 and trade kwame again for some1 really good.

  9. Gravatar Icon 9 kb24 4life

    resign kwamee!!

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 yellowpurplefever

I would take Kwame back for cheap. He just needs to play Defense and Rebounds. He does not need to score or catch the ball on Offense. Just tap them to Kobe or Fish or Famar. Now is much less presure for him, he does not have to think of ways to catch the ball or score. Just play solid D and Rebound. Wecome home Kwame! Sorry Ira.

Get Shawn Marion or Artest, then sign a good free agent and the Lakers will be #1. Oh, BTW, Phil please PREACH defense. Don’t leave defense as a “side item.” Make it the #1 priority even his Triangle Offense. With premium defense, the Lakers can beat any team.

camp invites….James White and Gerald Greene

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 123KID

i would sign kwame as a defender. you can do like a kwame/pau/turiaf/bynum combo. that way we always have atleast one or two defensive big men playing together. it would def be good against teams like minnesota, portland, celtics, cleveland, and toronto (with their addition of J.O.). and add a sfwho can shoot the 3 ball like james jones, posey, or kapono. and that equals a championship team.

    Sign James White!!!

  15. Gravatar Icon 15 ICE CREAM MAN

Kwame was doing ok before he got that ankle sprain. He is a big man that bang bodies. With him knowing that he doesn’t have to score much is less pressure and will perform ala Odom.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 johnnie

Mitch needs to at least invite players (Greene/White) that have a chance to make the lakers roster. Bring in a power forward and promising center. Don’t just settle for the same summer league players over and over for the last 4 years. Think out of the box!

Are you people kidding me? You wouldn’t mind resigning Kwame. It wasn’t even 6 months ago when you were cussing the living body outta the guy for being a butter finger now that we see that gasol is too soft you want him back? Rediculous. Bynum will play good defence don’t worry about it

Whatup LAKERNATION? I just heard Shaun Livingston is Unrestricted free Agent,so if The Lakers make an offer(hint, hint)The Clippers can’t match it.

    What do y’all think?

    Restricted FA. Clips can match.

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 DCLAKER

Go to HOOPSWORLD they said they couldn’t.

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 LakersFirst

The Clips don’t plan on tending their qualifying offer to Livingston, thus making him an unrestricted free agent.

However, teams will be wary of signing Livingston to a long term contract because his knee is still questionable.

Looking at the article the clippers could keep him as a restricted FA but want to pay him less than the mle. Giving him unrestricted status allows them to do that.

    Got’cha.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 all-bout-lal

in Hoopsworld theres a rumor that the Rockets are trying to trade McGrady.

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 DCLAKER

I do think Tracy,Kobe would be a special treat,Tracy won’t get a ring unless he plays with another Superstar…and he knows it,try it Mitch.

….and they would get (Tracy should’ve stayed in Toronto with VC).

  26. Gravatar Icon 26 all-bout-lal

it would be nice if we get McGrady, but realisticly you think he’ll be able to be nuber 2 or ven number 3, think aobiut it

    fisher/kobe/tracy/gasol/bynum

You were Wrong…….. He is currently a RESTRICTED FA. You will have to wait and see if the Clips allow him to become a Unrestricted FA. If they do so they probably have an agreement in salary before they do. Lakers don’t have a chance…. GOTCHA!!!!!!!

Homie,I said GOT’CHA because I understood what you were sayin’ the 1ST time, hence, givin’ you props.

NOW GO WATCH PIETRUS’S HIGHLIGHT REEL ‘07-’08,pretty please.

    can peitrus shoot
i know he can defend, but can he shoot, hes plays at the 3
has he ever played in the triangle

  33. Gravatar Icon 33 DCLAKER

Check ALL of Pietrus highlight reel (especially 07-08).He has EVERYTHING we need as a player whether starting or off the bench.A true Laker type of player and reminds so much of Byron Scott/James Worthy….AND HE’S CHEAPER THAN ARTEST(even though I wish both of them can put on the PURPLE/GOLD).

What about Villanueva and Desmond Mason for Vlad and Mihm?
