Well, it appears after walking the line for a bit, Ron Artest has decided to remain a Sacramento Queen…
News10.net: Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest will honor the final year of his contract and play for the Kings in the 2008-2009 season.
In an email sent to News10’s Bryan May, Artest confirmed he is not exercising the free agency option in the final year of his contract, meaning he will earn $7,450,000 the coming season.
Artest is entering his third year with the Sacramento franchise, having come over in a January 2006 trade for Peja Stojakovic to the Indiana Pacers.
Bryan May will have more on News10 at 6.
Update: ESPN has now posted an article about Artest NOT opting out.

DAMMIT I hope he is playing some mine games with us cause i really want this guy WE WANT RON ARTEST COME TO LA RON
yyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssss, now we have a better chance of obtaining him, lets face it we wern’t gonna sign artest
Remember GETGARNETT,de ja vu anyone.
NOW GETPIETRUS!!!
get pietrus, he has alot of potential to be better than artest
posey!!! posey!!! posey!!! posey!!! posey!!! posey!!! posey!!! posey!!!
called it.
so much for thinking artest would sign with the lakers. i say forget him and let him {Profanity isn't allowed on theLakersNation.com -- Please go back and edit your comment. Thank you.} and make money while we become champs next season.
lets go after mickael pietrus instead, cheaper player, athletic defender, can shoot 3 pointer. we can turn him into our very own “bruce bowen-type” player. he and trevor ariza would own the perimeter defense, while big bynum cleans glass and rejects shots.
lets trade radmanovic, i rather keep luke since he plays harder and puts in more effort. to be honest, radmanovic has underachieved all his career and doesnt look like thats gonna change. lets open up some roster spots and fill them with players who show up and play hard and with lots of emotion and energy. guys like kobe, luke, fish, sasha, and ronny are excellent examples.
:sigh:
luke is annoying, i dont understand why he doesnt dunk the dam ball, luke walton should work on growing some balls this offseason
if he doesn’t opt out then that means he can be traded, right? maybe the lakers can offer LO (clear up cap space), walton and/or radmon or a combo of both?

Maggette Opts Out Of Clipper Deal
Posted: 6/30/2008 7:29:00 PM
Source: LA Times
Corey Maggette is officially a free agent.
Maggette, the longest-tenured Clipper, filed paperwork today to opt out of the final season of his contract and immediately becomes one of the most attractive free agents in this off-season’s market.
The only problem is, there may not be too many buyers.
Only the Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers have abundant cap space this summer, with the Clippers now joining that list. Other teams would be able to offer Maggette, who was owed $7 million had he remained with the Clippers, the lesser mid-level exception.
The Clippers have maintained they hope to re-sign Maggette; however, a sign-and-trade deal with him could also be in the team’s plans.

Lakers Taking Care of Business
The good news for Lakers fans - and perhaps this should have been a no-brainer - is that the team is making re-signing Shasha Vujacic and Ronny Turiaf and their first priority. We’re also not hearing any more of those reactionary trade rumors about Lamar Odom. It seems as if the Lakers will make the smart move, which is to let their existing group come back for another try - this time with a healthy Andrew Bynum anchoring the middle. The best move the Lakers could make would be to bring back the team that won the Western Conference this season and let them have another shot at the title. As they stand many will pick them to win it all next season.
Well, If Artest rather be in a losing team for the money then he does not have the heart of a champion.
Screw him
What’t the deal about Pietrus?
Wow, Pietrus looks good!

It’s official Ron Artest will not opt out…

I think Artest is making a huge mistake. Look at Rick Fox. He could have taken a bit more money to play for another team but decided to come to the Lakers for less. 3 Championships, Hollywood, etc… I predict that Artest won’t even end up getting more next year by staying with Sacramento.
Now that we know he won’t opt out should the FO try to trade for him,(let say LO+Radman/Artest+Thomas)or should we keep the squad together after signing Turiaf & Shishi(Sasha)and make another run at our title???
we already got one french black dude. we don’t need another. We need some pipe hittin niggas to take care of business.
artest is a prink. I seriously hope the queens get like the 8th seed so we can beat the sh!t outta this fool. What a dumbass. 1 MORE MIL the kings would give him. haha he’d rather have 1 MORE MIL than a ring
Moving on lets get james posey. We need a guy that can come of the bench and knock down 3’s and DOESNT THINK ABOUT THE MONEY 24/7 UNLIKE ONE GREEDY QUEEN
LakeShow24, I doubt that Sacramento would do anything to help the Lakers, let alone take someone like Vlade off our hands. I read on the Kings blogs that they would be “willing” to take Odom AND Farmar for Artest and filler. No way that I’d take that, especially when Sacramento couldn’t even trade Artest for someone like Linas Kleiza earlier this year. I’m afraid that even if Artest had opted out, there was a chance that the Lakers wouldn’t sign him due to the luxury tax or if he did sign, that after 3 years, the Lakers wouldn’t give him a huge deal. Buss isn’t like Paul Allen or Mark Cuban who are willing to pay $10-20 million in luxury tax since his fortune is the Lakers and not something else. He said this a few years ago. I think that sucks since the Lakers are ore of the the most profitable franchises in sports, but that’s the reality.
Mitch needs to call Mr Dumars and begin trade talks for Prince/Odom…Prince give us 3pts and excellent D…
LakeShow24, that’s actually a pretty good trade for the Lakers. Prince could be a Pierce stopper if the Lakers meet the Celtics next year, and in case the Lakers meet the Pistons in the Finals next year, the Pistons would lose their Kobe stopper. But if I were Dumars, if there were anyone I’d trade, it would be in this order: Wallace, Billips, Hamilton, then Prince so I don’t think he’d do it, but if he offered, I’d take it in a second.
c´mon, stop talking about pietrus pleasee..
he hasnt even been mentioned in lakers discussions
we can stayy with the same group and still be champss!!!
the team is already fine with me. No biggie
good point… i think artest is thinking he can get more if he was traded and if a team has to give up something they will have more incentive to sign him to a long term deal. Like if the lakers traded him for LO the lakers would want to sign him long term and not just rent Artest for one yr. Artest’s goal is too max his dollar value. Hard to give a mental patient major dollars though.

gt rick fox and dennis rodman and AC green to the coaching staff for defensive purposes
Just another like the rest of em. You’ll see him sucking d!ck 10 years from now so a championship contender can sign him.
rick foxx is too beusy making b-list movies
pietrus should be our next target, he is way underrated
Ron Artest will play out his contract. Look to sign with another team next season. I really think he wants to play for LA. But right now, LA can’t afford him. So I think he wants to wait next season to sign for a better contract offer. I also think LA wants to see how our “Big 3″ respond in games. (Odom/Bynum/Gasol).
Its alright, his lost. Lets move on to possible trades and free agencies. I ‘d love to have T. Prince for Lamar lefty for lefty. Prince plays D, hits 3s and hes from LA our own product. Mitch call Dumar pls. Second, option M. Pietrus oui oui for cheap and hes avail. Third, Posey but likely to resign with Celt. Fourth, James Jones can play decent D, hits 3s regularly. Lastly, some how, some miracle get rid of Vlady and Fluke.
baron davis opted out he said back in the day he was willing to take a pay cut to be in a contender can you imagine baron, kobe, lamar, gasol, bynum, or probably lamar could get traded with farmar but i couyld be dreaming
T. Smith would be a good option. But I also like sign & trade Josh Smith of the Hawks. An up-and-comer.
Wow its getting interesting again. Trade Lamar for Baron and pick up M. Pietrus and LA will contend for the next 5 years
KOBEISKING….I’d rather have a MILLION dollars than a ring…I have to fill up my gas tank tomorrow.
Ice Cream man i was talking in artest’s perspetive. He could make 6 mil, but have a great chance at winning a ring, or 7 mil to win 30 games. I mean for me and you 1 mil is a lot, but conisdering how much this punk makes, he’s greedy.
Don’t under estimate the power of my ice cream car. When that little song plays and those kids come swarming me like crazy/hungry africanize killer bees, man it’s like christmas in July. I have to call the brinks truck to pick up all my cash. Those popsicle foot w/ the gum on the toe sell big time!…j/k
cant we still trade for him?
WHATEVER RON!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WOULD LOOK SO MUCH BETTER IN THE PURPLE AND GOLD….AND HOLDING UP A CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY STANDING NEXT TO KB24!!!! BUT YOU MADE YOUR CHOICE!!!! HAVE A NICE LIFE IN SACTOWN!
then get sme other uy to play his part. get all 3 so we will be better than boston
Let me say for the record…..I WILL NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER STOP TALKIN’ ABOUT MICKAEL PIETRUS!Again,I older than alot of y’all(being over 30,THE NEW 20,HAHAHA)so I’ve remember cryin’ like a B$#@! in ‘84 when we loss to Boston and then ‘87 happened when we got Byron Scott, especially when they originally didn’t want him,WHEW!
All I’m sayin’ is we need to start thinkin’insurance just in case guys get better offers and injuries.Yes,there other players that would fit but my favorite is PIETRUS because…..GO TO YOUTUBE,KB24 4LIFE and DABOSS1849 and like THE MILLIONS I HAVE CONVINCED(OK 10 PEOPLE,bite me)y’all will be too,TRUST ME!
isnt pietrus just a duplicate ariza?
plz dont point to highlights - anyone and evryone has wondeful highlights - thats why theyre called HIGHlights
besides, if pietrus is such a gem, y isnt Nelson playing him?
