July 9: Lakers start their pursuit for Artest?

Interesting stuff. Sounds like the Lakers will potentially make a move for Artest…

InsideSocal: The Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat are expected to be among the teams interested in obtaining Ron Artest from the Sacramento Kings once the NBA’s dead period ends July 9. Kings general manager Geoff Petrie figures to receive plenty of calls about Artest and his expiring $7.4 millon contract, according to the Sacramento Bee newspaper. No reason to think Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak won’t call, too.

And here is what the original article from the SacBee said:

SacBee: While there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Geoff Petrie intends to trade Ron Artest as soon as possible given Ron-Ron’s recent outburst and dissatisfaction with his contract situation, don’t expect anything to happen before the July 9th signing date. Petrie won’t make a move until Beno Udrih formally rejoins the Kings. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t compiled a trade wish-list or begun entertaining offers. The same teams that were interested in Artest before he committed to the final year (and $7.4 million) of his contract continue to find him appealing, especially in light of his expiring contract. The Lakers, Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, among others, will be exchanging phone calls with in the near future.

Damnit man, it woulda been better if we signed him.. instead of trade. Unless the Kings are willing to take Radman and Mihm or something.

  2. Gravatar Icon 2 lakerschamps08

well yea thats good.. but they want LO……umm if miami gives them marion they will get artest….but i hope someway somehow we can get artest with keepin LO..

  3. Gravatar Icon 3 gugy

Give Vlad and Luke for Artest.

THat would be nice, but will not happen.

They’d probably have no interest in Radmanovic or Walton as both have multiple years left on their contracts and aren’t in the same league as Artest quality wise.

The deal would probably have to involve Lamar, and would probably result in the Lakers taking on another Kings player’s contract to match salaries.

the key is to keep LO on the roster. If we have to get rid of LO for Artest, then fuggedaboutit. If Artest wants some outrageous amount of money from the team that is closest to a championship, then fuggedaboutit. At the end of an NBA basketball player’s career, all that really matters is how many rings you have on your finger. Just ask Karl Malone. Actually, Robert Horry would be better to ask. It ain’t for the money, its for the ring.

    Mihm, Radmonovic, and Crawford

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 gus26

we are not getting artest unless a third team is in it..

mitch has to called them for artest , and hopefully the outcome will be like the gasol trade. get him for nothing. give them luke &crawford & mihm.

    Posey and Pietrus(The P and P express,p’in’ all on the Smell-tics),I SMELL A 3-PEAT.

THEDYNASTYBEGINS.com,I still can’t believe Poesy said he wanted to be a Laker,he shut me THE HELL UP,I’m goin’ to cry ’til Tuesday……FORGET DAT,IT’S CORONA TIME!!!

or if we give ariza, luke or vlad and mihm.. along with sue…with aiza’s 3 mil and mihm’s 2.5 mil thats 5.5 mil that comes off the books if the players don’t work out.. you get a starting sf.. in ariza its obvious you get a young up and comming sf/sg and good slasher with a bright future
in luke you get a player that will move the ball to let martin do his thing
or in vlad you get a peja type player and we all know how much sacto loved peja
in mihm you get a good back up to miller and if he is healthy a possible starting center remember 06?
if beno doesn’t work out you got a young player develping over seas that won’t be on the books..

we are all witness to crazier things.. one word.. pau

If the Lakers sign Posey using their MLE, then odds are there will be no Artest

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 gus26

what if we do the trade and we sign posey.. and keep sasha and ronny.. then (and i hate when people do this but i can’t resist) our line up would look like…

    Fisher/Farmar/Crawford
    Kobe/Posey/Sasha
    Artest/ Luke or Vlad
    Odom/Ronny
    Pau/Bynum

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 Daryl Imhoff

I never thought the Lakers would have gotten Pau or Trevor for what we did. If the Lakers keep Lamar and sign Posey and trade for Artest that is one athletic team. Defense is the key for next year and Posey and Artest bring tons of defense and they change the mind set of their teammates. Nothing is for sure, but what a team the Lakers would be!!!!

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 kPoAbUe

LOL YAYAYAYAYAYA WE GET BOTH POSEY ND ARTEST!!!!

IF IF SACRAMENTO WANTS TO REBULID SHIP MIHM”S VLADS LUKES AS OUTTA HERE!

I doubt the Lakers will trade LO for Artest if Posey signs with us. Posey solves our defensive toughness problem at the SF as well as clutch 3-point shooting. And he also has his head on straight unlike Artest.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 Awaker85

Posey is a MUCH better fit for us than Artest. Some of the people on this website need to get in touch with reality. We arn’t getting Artest without giving up Odom, and Mitch isn’t gonna do that, nor would I want him to. Only way Artest becomes a Laker is if we get him NEXT year. And if we sign Posey I gurantee you Artest will not ever be a Laker, which is fine with me. Posey is a better fit.

i cant believe it either bro!!!

No way do the Lakers give up Lamar for Artest. I would not have beleived it to be possible to get Pau without giving up Lamar but life is stranger than fiction. Fiction has to make sense, life rarely does.

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 lakerschamps08

ok we more than likely not getting artest…so i was think if maggette and posey gonna get same money and years then i would want maggette… but idk… we c wat happens

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 Lakerboi

If we get Posey, then let Sasha walk. We don’t need three big contracts this year and want to resign Bynum. I would rather keep Ronny- he can play both 4 and 5.

    Fish/ Farmar/ Crawford / Sue
    Kobe/ Posey
    Lamar/ Radman/ Walton/ ariza
    Gasol/ Ronny
    Bynum/ Mihm

    i believe its happening

    pau-lamar
    bynum-turiaf

sitting on the bench only getting up to give high 5’s are vlad walton mimh crawford sue

Send Lamar’s sorry behind packing to Sacramento and Welcome Ron Artest. WE NEED YA RON!!!

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 e

i dont think berating lamar is gonna do us any good, however if its possible to get artest with or without giving up lamar its worth it (obviously its better without giving him up)..lamar would make a great bench player in my opinion and im sure many would agree with me

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 Shaq786

lamar is awesome… but not at SF…. time for him to go… if we get RON and sheldan williams for him…. thats a deal u dont sit on!

i agree with u there…but u have to admit, it wouldnt be bad having lamar coming off the bench as a back up power forward

There is only one way Sac would trade him to us. We would have to take Kenny Thomas’ bad contract to make the salaries work. I think there is like 2 years left on his contract.

The Question is this. Let’s say Bynum never returns to his same form and has a chris webber type injury. Would you rather have Odom at small forward or artest?

  28. Gravatar Icon 28 Fantastic5LAL

Odom for Artest and K. Thomas

    sign Posey

    Fish/Farm
    Kobe/Sasha
    Artest/Posey
    Pau/K.Thomas/Vlad
    Bynum/Turiaf

I’d trade Vlad for JJ Reddick right now.As long he’s off the team next year. When Phil said we need some players, trust me what was sayin’ to Mitch is “Its time to pull the plug on some these guys,NOW”.

At least JJ can defend much better than this guy and a consistent shooter but ANYBODY BUT VLAD.

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 Smush Walton

Definitely time to pull the plug on some guys. If we can’t unload Smush Walton and Vlad Moronovich then they must assume the Ira Newble and Coby Karl positions on the roster. How did we ever sign Luke to a six year deal? He should take a pay cut to the minimum salary level. The Laker management made a major blunder in not tearing up the Space Cadet’s contract when he broke his shoulder snowboarding and then he lied about it.

It may be time to pull the plug on Lamar. We been talking about his “potential” for four years now. Outside of one quarter, his performance in the finals was pathetic. The only way I keep him now is as a reserve. He is just too inconsistent to be counted on any more.

This Laker fan who wrote the above overall wrongs on this team covered everything. All players named are the reasons we are referred to as a soft team. Dr. jack ramsey repeatedly questioned the laker coaching staff for not playing Ariza instead of Walton. He also stated Lamar Odom acted as if he was lost and had no focus. I wish we could trade him for Artest and add Posey as well. If not Posey a sign and trade for Carl Landry a young up and coming star from Houston. Houston is trying to bad mouth him to keep teams from making an offer. They added to draft picks that play the same postion. they can’t afford all of them. Also Anthony Randolph golden states pick wanted to be a laker so bad he said in his interview. Why not try and come up with some trade proposal to get him he is extremely talented and would be a future piece in our rebuilding. 6′-10″ and can ball!!!! Don Nelson is going to let him sit and sit like he did brandon wright fro North Carolina another talent. Sign and trade Sasha V. for Randolph trust me long tuerm we win. This kid I’m telling you can balll!!!!!!!!!!
