This is interesting. What is your take? I would def. like Maggette to get on board. Imagine all the free throws we’d get. Plus, he’s a physical player.
O.C. Register: Maggette and the Lakers’ franchise player, Kobe Bryant, share the same agent, one Rob Pelinka. So perhaps it would behoove the Lakers to at least give Pelinka a call to see if anything is possible.
The Lakers are well over the salary cap anyway and are in the luxury-tax paying stratosphere, so what harm does it do to ask Maggette and Pelinka if the mid-level exception would suffice? Heck, Corey could still keep his jersey No. 50.

this would be awesome. It’s our turn to screw the spurs, a revenge when they drafted george hill.
I’m about to cry.Kobe’s best friend in the in the NBA,NOW WE TALKIN’!
depending how much money he wants….it all comes down to money..
wouldn’t be the first time we take an ex-clipper by offerring the mle.. thats how we got vlad.. maybe we can send him back in a sign and trade..or dare i say luke for mags in a sign and trade.. *sigh*.. i can dream..
Would he be able to handle being a bench player? I’m not sure if he could. I guess sometimes we could have a rotation of kobe at point, maggette at shooting guard, odom at sf, pau at pf, and bynum at c. That would be an offensive powerhouse right there.
realistically speaking though i been reading a lot that its either spurs or magic for mags.. the most that either one of those teams can offer is the MLE.. so i think its just a matter of waiting.. my thinking is the FO is waiting to see what happens with sasha and rony first.. if they don’t get thrown stupid money then we can resign them… if we don’t then we need to look at using the MLE to replace them.. instead of using it to get an addition like say a mags, posy, or barry.. so we have to wait to see what happens with our own free agents..
Maggette is a poor defensive player (ok man-on-man but is basically non existent when it comes to team defense), and the Lakers do not need any more offense. Also you have to look at the financial implications of any long term deal for the MLE. With already being over the luxury tax and having to extend Bynum’s contract and Farmars, the Lakers are not likely to offer a full MLE to anyone. If they do it will probably mean that Odom will be let go of after next season unless he is willing to resign for 7-8M.
haha oh man will the clippers be pissed! its pretty much a 50/50 pro-con hate-love for maggette. he seems to be injury prone, hes just an offensive player, and he plays sf/sg (we dont really need that if LO might play that position), and how would the lakers even add him into a mix of the starting 5. but…hez just gonna switch teams and not to a different state, he is only getting offers for the mle, and im sure any guy that plays with kobe will change their role if they have a shot at a championship.
IF HES OUT THERE GET HIM FORGET SASHA ND RONNY THEY WANT TO GO LET THEM GO WE CAN GET MAGGS!
just get pietris
I’m still really hoping that the Lakers can still land Ron Artest. I think that’s the missing piece we need to fill in the weak spots. I really don’t think Maggette is the answer, although the Lakers would look great on paper, I believe Artest is the only answer.
You know why Kobe just loves playing with guys like Odom and Gasol instead of guys like Shaq and Melo, two guys who don’t want to pass instead of being the number 1/2 scorer. Pau Gasol is extremely unselfish, along with Odom, Kobe doesn’t need another ballhog, because he does enough scoring and passing and everything already, but Gasol and Odom and Bynum all know when to score, and the four of them are all pretty unselfish, that’s why Kobe loves Gasol, Odom and Bynum!
Only if they don’t resign Sasha.. so we can use him as a back up shooting guard…we have too many small forwards as it is
Maggette can be a LeBron type player, he has the size and strength to penetrate and flush with power, and he’s a pretty good scorer, it’s just the passing thats missing
not a bad idea…this would make a lot of sense
If we don’t get any of the free agents or any of the people we’re trading for.. then get Maggette. He can score and take it in a lot, but he needs to improve in defense. Good for the bench :D!
GG.
Chris Broussard doesnt think Maggette should go to Spurs:
ESPN
WE NEED DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the Spurs get him they’re really gonna be tough. They were a healthy Manu away from making our series with them very competitive. Throw in Mag and they’re gonna be back in the hunt to take back the title.
If Sasha wants the MLE, let him go and go after Mag. Great with the 3 ball and a more consistent, tougher scorer. He can always improve on D.
dude wants mo’ money
We don’t need more offense. Corey is a great player and probably is half of what Lebron is as far as strength and skill. But we need defense.
He is an upgrade from Vlad and Luke tho. We’d have too many SFs
Mamba2410,TRUE,SOOOOO TRUE!
You should watch what you’re saying there. Do you have any proof that he is a POOR defensive player? I watch Clipper games and I can say that he is okay, not bad and not good, just okay. Watch what you’re saying. Yes, the Lakers are over the salary cap and paying Luxury Tax, but why not use the MLE if they can take the team to another level? Money is not a problem for this team. Screw luxury tax. Los Angeles is the 2nd richest market behind New York. So as long as they have options, like the MLE, they shouldn’t hesitate.
Half of LeBron is terms of strength and skill? I don’t know about strength there. You should also watch what you’re saying. A lot of people that talk on this forum are stupid. They have no idea what the F they’re saying. They post comments like they’re MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS that fool around. Have ya ever heard MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS trying to talk NBA? They sound like crap.
Here’s the point: Maggette is probably as strong as LeBron strength wise, if not stronger. I would think that he is stronger the King James. Look at his shoulders, triceps and biceps, or should I say look at his wholes arms. You mean to tell me that he out muscle LeBron? LeBron is bigger, sure, cuz he’s 6′8″ and Corey is 6′6″ or 6′7″. But I have no doubt Mag is stronger.
Skill wise, James is obviously better duh. James is almost the best in the NBA. Nothing to say here.

WTH what do you mean Sasha wants the MLE? Are you high or do you not know anything? The Lakers and Vujacic are in the middle of a contract negotiation. They are trying to RESIGN him, and resigning an unrestricted free agent allows a team that the player belongs to, to match any other teams’ offers. So what do you mean MLE? You people should go watch sports central on kcal9 or cbs2 so you all will know more. Also listen to AM570 KLAC. Do both of these things and you will know a lot about the Lakers. For those that sound like they’re smoking crack when they talk about free agency & trades, go play NBA LIVE’s dynasty mode or something like that so you’ll know how free agency and salary caps work. Idiots.
haha whos the guy that was talkin about fishers and maggette’s baby oil buffness
we cant let him go to the spurs er celtics…if that were to happen we would need to get lamar out fer artest er marion…..sign maggette
…resigning a *restricted free agent is probably what you mean.
