Sacramento Bee: According to a league source, the Lakers already have contacted the Kings regarding Artest and are believed to be offering forward Lamar Odom. As of Tuesday evening, the Kings had not returned the call.
They are expected to insist on forward Kenny Thomas and his $18 million of remaining salary (over two seasons) being included in that potential trade. Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie declined comment on whether the Lakers had called.

I was wondering if we can take Shariff Abdur Rahim but was shocked at his stats. 1.7 ppg last season? What??? This player used to be pretty good. Now he’s like a bench filler. His career pts are like 17 ppg.

If we could unload Walton and LO for Artest and Thomas, we would be stronger, bigger and tougher plus Artest can shoot from range better than Walton and LO. If we could unload Radmonovic, find someone who can dribble and get Posey, we would be set for World Championships for 3 years.

Why do people keep saying LO has great ball handling skills? He does NOT.. he can only drive to his left and has no outside shot.. he misses layups too!! defense? mediocre to say the best.. he takes unnecessary fouls
Artest has the whole package.. he can play 3 positions.. is consistent on offense and defense.. high intensity.. crashes the boards.. mediocre free throw shooter.. sure he may have a couple of screws loose, but he will take the Lakers to the next level, and LO has proven he can NOT
best case scenario.. we get Artest straight up for LO.. if LO, loves the Lakers that much he can resign with them next season for MLE

The Lakers should pursue Artest through a trade or free agency because:
Artest is a defensive force. He’s one of a handful of players(Kobe, Duncan, KG) that can dominate a game on both ends. Four seasons ago, he was Defensive Player of the Year. During that season, Artest held his offensive targets, including some of the league’s top players, to 8.1 points per game on 9.3 shots per game and 42.6 percent shooting. This can’t be emphasized enough. I know four seasons have passed, but Artest is only 28 years old — a year younger than Kobe Bryant. At 6-7, 250 pounds he can guard four of the five positions in basketball.
why does the sacbee keep writting that we are the ones who are trying to make the trade happen.. i think after the comments that artest made after he didn’t opt out its sacramento that wants to trade him.. who else could they get for him that has 1)a big expiring contract and 2)playoff experience 3) and has incredible versatility.. i think its the kings that want LO not so much us wanting artest..

I do not like the idea of trading Odom until we see how the team plays together. Artest has a big up side and just as big a down side. Maybe a three team trade where we give Farmar,Luke and Vlade and our draft pick this year,’09. Maimi wants a Point guard they give up Marion and we get Artest or leave Sac out of it and we get Marion. I like the trade for Josh Smith if we are going to give up Lamar. We are really good now, please don’t change too much before we get to see the team play together.
Why would we get rid of LO?! Way to versatile to loose! If we can get rid of Rad and Luke for Artest then go for it but the big frontline of Bynum,Pau and LO will be great! People should really take a look at what LO does for the team and realize no1 is really gonna fill that void.

Why would the Kings want to give up Kevin Martin?? He was their leading scorer last year, not to mention, last year they signed him to a 5-year extension. Something tells me they want to keep him.

Same here. LO was playing great when Bynum went down. Now that they have Pau, we should at least see how everyone mixes with Bynum back!
But if Mitch can pull off a miracle (again) and can give them Luke/Vlad for Artest, then I definitely would not mind!

Why Do WE Do This Trade?
LO is Versatile.
Lakers won’t need his versatility anymore.
They need the adequate production and needs for the positions
{odom doesn’t do that being the 3 in a already huge front-court}
his rebs will be negated.
Artest on the other hand becomes the great defender we need.
Not scared to take big shots.
Him and Kobe are good friends.
Phil has controlled rodman before, why not artest.
