Sam Amick: A lower member of the Buss family told Mitch to “get it done” [Artest]

Sam Amick, the writer from sacramento who re-ignited the Lamar for Artest trade rumor, was interviewed on a sacramento radio show on 7/8 and discussed the Ron Artest situation. He actually drops quite a bombshell in the interview that I’m shocked hasn’t broken widely…

He said in the interview that a lower member of the Buss family basically told Mitch to get it done. “Get it done” as in get a deal for Artest done. He mentions the same pieces he did in his blog. We would have to give up Lamar and take on Kenny Thomas.

He also dropped Farmar’s name as a possibility in the deal and future draft picks.

You can listen to the full interview here. (On the left side are recent interviews from the show. Scroll down and click on “Sam Amick 7/8″.)

    Lakers shouldn’t give up a package of Odom+Farmar. That’s madness…

Wow. If this goes through, I’m not going to watch next season. This is ridiculous. They’re underrating Lamar’s value. Why including Farmar in this deal. Artest is NOT worth that much. Bull!

    we need FARMAR !!!!!!!!

  11. Gravatar Icon 11 Jamie Spears Insider

Keep in mind. Ron Artest have a history of temper issues. He can’t control his composure when the going gets tough =P. Why bring him in to disturb our team chemistry?

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 Freshh

    Farmar??
    WTF.

    This isn’t what I wanted.
    Artest/filler for odom is fine.

but to put our future PG on the line too.
    Is not good at all.

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 xtro

U guys are not thinking clearly. defense wins championships. artest plays D.

No dont get it done mitch..if farmar is on the block..
    Id rather get prince…

lol boss we gonna get bill artest wtf??? lol..

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 LD2k

    LMAO:

    * As a quick sidenote, Artest continues to routinely go on the air with KHTK’s Carmichael Dave.
The latest from the Ron-Ron show: he’s decided to change his name. OK, so technically he wants to go by his middle name of William. The thinking? Since Ron Artest is back to getting so much negative media coverage, maybe going by Bill - as he requested to be called - could give him a fresh start. Never a dull moment… - Sam Amick

The Lakers are not going to give up Lamar and Farmar. If Farmar is included it will be with Luke and Vlade and draft picks.

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 MicAelJordan

DarlImhoff is right i think its farmar and luke or odam.!Trade f and l for artest and LO for T.P

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 2inthepink1inthestink

Get artest and get him now!!!! We will finally be back to the days with shaq. Artest and kobe could use the media to make things fun like kobe and shaq did. The team the lakers have now are very boring no headlines in the papers everyday no one talkin smack. Artest can change that. I’m afraid if the lakers don’t get artest they will turn into the spurs who say all the right things and do all the right things, how boring is that?

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 ricky

i could possibly accept odom for artest/filler, but there is NO WAY IN HELL that we are gonna include jordan farmar in any deal. he is way too valuable and is definitely our future PG soon to take over after fish.

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 Banzai

Eh..more talk about Artest? I’ll take it seriously when the trade ACTUALLY happens. All talk with no results.

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 BuyLakersTickets

Thats a dumb move.. we have advantage, not the same or less value.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 Ignard

trade away Jordan and next summer we’ll be talking about trading away half the team for a point guard.

Knicks, Clippers involved in trade talks for Randolph
    Getty Images
Stephon Marbury’s future remains unresolved, but the Knicks are on the verge of moving another big contract — Zach Randolph’s. A person close to the situation confirmed Friday that the Los Angeles Clippers have approached the Knicks about acquiring Randolph in an effort to make up for the sudden loss of Elton Brand to free agency.

The story was first reported Friday by SI.com, which said Knicks president Donnie Walsh turned down the Clippers’ offer. It was not known which players would be going to the Knicks in the deal, but it would not have to be a salary match because the Clippers are well under the cap. Randolph has three years and $48 million left on his contract. The Knicks, with an eye on being in the same position by 2010, would not accept contracts that go beyond that year in return for Randolph, who averaged 17.6 points and 10.3 rebounds last season. He was acquired from Portland by Isiah Thomas on draft night in 2007 for Steve Francis and Channing Frye.

It is believed that Walsh was hoping to pry Eric Gordon, the seventh overall pick in the NBA draft, as part of the deal. That move seems unlikely, but it is expected that Walsh will talk again with the Clippers, who also are participating in the NBA Summer League here. The source said Walsh has been “very active” in trade discussions and is “looking at these types of transactions constantly.” Marbury also is brought up in trade discussions, but most teams interested in the 31-year-old point guard would rather wait for the Knicks to buy him out of the final year and $21.9 million left on his contract, then tender him a veteran’s minimum contract.

    Nooo,Randolph can’t play defense!

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 Dante

    DO NOT TRADE FARMAR

  28. Gravatar Icon 28 LAKing

Lamar’s definately in the deal, but I don’t think Farmar is in the deal. Personally, I think the Lakers would put Walton in the deal. The Lakers need Farmar as a backup to Fisher, they won’t give up Farmar people. I think the Lakers will put someone else in a package with Lamar, like I said my guess is Walton.

  29. Gravatar Icon 29 Eric Thai

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! DO NOT GET ARTEST.

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 PeanutButterSpread

NOOOOOOO! Don’t get it done, Mitch! please for the love of all things holy please don’t get it done! Good lord, we don’t need an overhaul, we need an addition! Get rid of Luke, Vlad, or Chris, but not Odom or Farmar. Why trade away productive players that got us to the Finals?!?!?!

AGH, these Lamar/Artest trade rumors are driving me bat crazy!

  31. Gravatar Icon 31 gus26

if we trade Lamar and Vlad for thomas and artest.. we would save about 4 million in cap space.. possibly allowing us to sign ronny back or offer posey the full MLE he is looking for.. on top of that we would have more flexibility to sign sasha.. i think there are a lot of factors that rest on the decision to trade for artest.. the main one being bynums health.. if we can count on drew to start then we should do it and our team would look like this..

    Fisher/ Farmar
    Kobe/ Sasha/ Ariza
    Artest/ Posey/ Walton
    Pau/ Thomas/ Ronny
    Bynum/ Mihm

not a bad team.. other thing is if the trade is done artest must sign an extention like when KG went to boston and shaq went to miami..

  32. Gravatar Icon 32 Sako

Not Farmar!!! I’d rather not get Artest than have to give up Farmar for him.

  33. Gravatar Icon 33 Sako

I mean I’d rather not have Artest if we have to trade Farmar.

  34. Gravatar Icon 34 kb808

odom, mihm, and coby karl for artest and kenny thomas??
    would that be fair??

  35. Gravatar Icon 35 ab4sure

If true, this is a stupid move to show your hand and ruin your negotiations by a “lower level buss member”. Which makes me thinks this is bull shyt and is nothing other than a Sac. Bee reporter trying to create a better negotiating stance for him hometown team kings.

man am really sad right now am just thinking about how much we gone miss turiaf he was our energy guy remember that guy that would live his heart on the court damn this think its making me cry i really wish mitch could match the warriors offer sheet…=(

Again, Mitch is a smart guy. His mentor is Jerry West. About Shaq, Shaq was out of line and disrespected Dr Buss. also over weight. bye bye. Why would Dumar want to trade Tayshawn? I’d love to have him in purple/gold! Baron went home and now Tayhawn, AWESOME!! I rather have Tay anyday. Mitch wont give them Famar just like Malouf wont give up Kev Matin. Artest does not equate all these pieces we have to give up, Tayshawn does!

  49. Gravatar Icon 49 DCLAKER

I like Farmar too but We need size at the PG position.I sat and watched the Utah and Boston series and watched how Farmar got man-handled and said to myself,”We’re kinda undersized,no muscle”.DF is cool but his size got exposed and he doesn’t drive to the whole enough anymore preferring to shooting jumpers.I’m not sayin they’re not good just under sized.

The traditionally always had tall point (Magic,Shaw,Harper),Van Eckel was exactly like Farmar but slashed more, almost if same size…but was cut because DF was stronger.

Keyon Dooling is perfect(28 yrs. old,6′4″)because he has ariza mind set….he’s a slasher and attacks the rim, which is what we need.

  50. Gravatar Icon 50 Brandon Hoffman

I like Farmar. But I don’t think he’s a starting point guard in the NBA. I think he’s best suited as a backup.

People are severely underestimating Ron’s defense. He’s one of three perimeter defenders (Jordan, Gary Payton) to have won the Defensive Player of the Year over the past twenty years.
