Bleacher Report: Shawn Marion has been one of the more underrated players in the NBA for the past few years. His numbers and production have ranked up there with all the stars of the league.
Last season the Heat traded Shaq for Marion in a blockbuster deal, and after drafting Michael Beasley, Marion could be traded once again.
Riley wants to keep Marion so he can use his large expiring contract at seasons end, but Marion wants to go to a contender and sign a contract extension, and that is not with Miami.
The Heat have been drawing interests from the Lakers, Warriors, and Clippers.
The Lakers would be a nice fit for Marion. They need a defensive player, and Marion is one of the best. He can be able to run with Kobe and will be a nice asset to the triangle.
The Lakers would have been rumored to already offer Lamar Odom and Chris Mihm. I see this trade being fair for the Heat. In return they get Odom’s large expiring contract and a solid center, in which they need, with Mihm.

Odom for Marion in the works?
NOW WE TALKIN’!!!
THANK YOU< THANK YOU
PLEASE GOD MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!
WAY BETTER FOR THE LAKERS THAN ARTEST!!!
after we get marion, jr smith or josh childress is next
best part is that we can ship out vlad with LO
shawn marion would be absolutely amazing on the lakers…id welcome marion before id welcome artest anyday, but hopefully this isnt only a dream
As long as we get someone with defense thats all that matters.
Artest or Marion, I’m happy with whoever!!!!!! damn it, i said i’m Happy with whoever.lol
ship Luke out with U.P.S. to china or something!!!!!!!! haha
this is what should be done.
HAHAHA
This time, it’s Riley’s turn to help the Lakers!
Come on Pat, get Vlad or Luke, Mihm and LO (at least LO will not be that sad because he is somewhat familiar in Miami)!!!
Either Marion or Artest, Mitch my b•tch Do it!
I think this is better than the Artest trade.. since Marion can play defense and drop in a good amount of points. I think this is one I would actually do for Odom..
And what a surprise, someone wants Chris Mihm, crazy eh? We need to get rid of that dead weight anyway.
I still don’t wanna give up Odom =/. But ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Good luck Mitch.
This is a Bleacher report. The guy writing this is probably a secret Heat fan who sits high up in the bleachers. Everything written about the lakers should not be posted on tln. This article proves that point.
Odom > Marion
You guys are ridiculous. You honestly want to give them Odom when we can give them Radmonvic, Mihm, and another player?
works for me..
Why would we take on a player that is going to make 17.8 million dollars next year. THERE IS NO WAY THIS WILL HAPPEN. I still like the idea of getting Artest.
his contrACT EXPIRES NEXY SEASON AND LUKE OR VLAD IS GOING ODOM
This is the same guy that became a cancer in PHX coz he wasn’t getting any touches or he’s not getting any recognition coz of Nash and Stoudemire. Do you really want a 16 million dollar primadonna??? He didn’t like being the third option in PHX, how do you think he will take it being the fourth option here after KB, Drew, and Pau? LO is cool being the 9th option. I’d say still go after Artest and that will solidify our marshmallow defense.
Please let this happen so much better than artest
Hahaha! and you honestly think Miami is gonna take that for Marion? Riles is not Isaiah Thomas lol.
id still rather have artest
he has a reasonable salary and if we could get mikki more in the deal it would help to fill the hole that turiaf left behind. we NEED a true small forward, yes im sure shawn marion would do fine guarding SF’s but still idk i just like the idea of artest better, just imagine the leagues premier defender alongside the league’s premier scorer. star SG’s & SF would have nightmare-like games, defending (or at least trying to) kobe bryant and on the other end trying to get past artest, they’d wear themselves out
and voice of reason: are you serious, what do u think that all the teams in the league are out to help us and give us star players for crap, wow
Uhh.. it’s a trade, and they want to have a benefit too.. I’m sure if we could ship out Vlad/Luke we would. Which is what I’ve been wanting to do since the beginning.
Honestly, right now I’m confused! I don’t know who I want for the team anymore…
why we should trade for marion
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HN42nO85SZI&feature=related
why we shouldnt trade for artest
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_tqdI-VyR-o
I was on LakerGround and here’s what they propose…Kobe takes a pay cut and opt out next,so instead of 25 mil…he gets 20 mil.,reasonable(Players get TOO DAMN money anyway). While at the end of next season (and after winnin’ The ‘Chip)Marion gets 12 mil. instead of 17,trust me he’ll go for that and Pau,AB get extensions ’cause Mihm we’ll OUT OF LA,YAAAAAAY!
Marion is not the Money Hog Artest is and if you don’t believe me…CHECK OUT WHAT STEPHEN A. SMITH SAID ABOUT’em(though I agree with him when he said with Artest and AB we WILL win a ‘Chip).
The Point is LA is putting ALL their eggs in one basket when their are capable players who can get the JOB DONE as well,if not better than Artest,TAKE YOUR PICK!We went to the Finals with 2nd,3rd and 4th yr. players, phenomenal but, like PJ said after Game 6,WE NEED SOME PLAYERS to get us over the top,so Artest or Marion is not enough,WHO ELSE?JR Smith? Stephen Jackson? Matt Barnes? Azubuike?…Childress? WHO?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=B5IUufQhHyE&feature=related
whiteboy can play
First let me say that I do like the Marion idea!! BUT I feel this will bad financially for the Lakers!! Marion is an expensive player who is making around 17 million! Yes his contract expires and he is rumored to want in the 15 million a year range!! You do the math folks!! Kobe-20 mil Pau-17 mil Bynum-lets say around 12 mil Marion-15 mil!! Thats pretty much the salary cap right there!! Thats one reason why I would prefer Artest! His extension should be cheaper and he is younger at 28 to Marion’s 30!!! I think this will put the lakers in a financial bind for years to come!! AKA San Antonio Spurs!!!
in my opinion, odom is way more versatile than marion. and i just hate seeing marion’s shot. DAMN ITS EMBARRASSING! i would rather get artest over marion. but i say we need more than just one player to for sure get that championship on lock. get that 72-10 and that championship lakers!
marion is on his cantract year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pay attention pplz
so many opyions cant decide

ronny duplicate
TOO MUCH MONEY…WHAT HAPPENS WITH HIS CONTRACT EXTENTION…I’D RATHER HAVE A REAL ROLE PLAYER…TAYSHAUN PRINCE OR STEPHEN JACKSON, JAMES POSEY…A LOT CHEAPER BETTER ROLE PLAYERS…MONEY WISE FIT BETTER.
LAMAR ODOM > SHAWN MARION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if i had to choose between artest or marion, i would rather have artest. his contract is less than half that of marion’s and his defense is better. in order for the lakers to keep odom and still make a shot for artest is dim, but perhaps they should look into getting a third team involved who also has a bit more cap space/expiring contracts that would appeal to the kings more. however, convincing a third team to help the lakers become even stronger is too much to ask, but hopefully mitch has more tricks up his sleeve, but for now, i would rather keep odom and see how the lakers new frontline plays out during the regular season.
I know Marion is in his contract year which means at the end of the season he will be due an extension! It is rumored that he wants in the 15 million a year range! The Lakers will be bound financially to him for years to come! HE WILL BE TO EXPENSIVE!!!!!!
GET SOME KENNY SMITHS
http://youtube.com/watch?v=nJRqhTxkLec
I wouldn’t do this trade. Marion might play a little better defense than Odom but Odom has better ball handling skills. I also believe Steve Nash and his dimes made Marion alot better of a player than he really is. Marion is overated.
I want Artest. Maybe he can get the Staples center crowd to wake up and get out of their seats and actually make some noise in the first 3 quarters.
umm : “Yes his contract expires and he is rumored to want in the 15 million a year range”
pay attention pplz
I don’t see this happening. Miami has Haslam and Beasley, so why would they need Odom? I guess Beasley has the ability to play the 3, but that would push Haslam to the bench. Mimh may have been a starting center in the league prior to his injuries, but I think his career is about over. I think a fair trade would be Gasol and (Walton or Vlade) for Marion and Haslam. That would give us:
Fisher, Kobe, Marion, Odom, and Bynum.
who said bout resigning him, ariza would be starting for us by that time,so yes
PAY ATTENTION PLEAZ
u know i wouldnt mind that trade if we were to do that either…lamar’s a better defender than pau and on any given night, can get as many rebounds as pau, most likely even more..the only problem would be scoring and marion could solve that

Man i would hate to trade odom for artest, but man for marion i would odom in a heart beat!!!
Who next? Lebron? D.Wade? Melo? Shaq? Geez, enough already with these stupid rumors, last year it was everyone for Bynum this year it’s Lamar, HE’S NOT GOING ANYWHERE PEOPLE! They should be focusing on keeping Sasha and Ronny.
either we trade for artest or marion, the bottom line for these 2 players is that both of them desire long term extensions. artest would be cheaper to extend than marion and artest is still 2 years younger. if the lakers had to pick, i think they would choose artest over marion. marion would ask for a price range of $15 million per season whereas artest could possibly be okay with about $10 million per season in my opinion. if we had to make a deal for artest, i would try and get a third team involved. when i looked over all the teams, i think the best 3rd team to include between the lakers and kings would be golden state. i figure that since they just signed maggette, they can use harrington in a trade since he is in his last year, they can get another big to help out biedrins in the frontcourt.
this is what i would do.
1. lakers send chris mihm and radmanovic to golden state. lakers also send future 1st round pick to sacramento.
2. golden state sends harrington to sacramento.
3. sacramento sends ron artest to lakers.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=549~1016~308~25&teams=9~9~23~13&te=&cash=
this allows golden state to increase their depth up front with mihm coming off the bench behind biedrins and radmanovic can give them more flexibility and range when playing with ellis, jackson, maggette, and biedrins. the 3 players (ellis, jack-o, and mags) can all penetrate which can open up the perimeter once the D collapses and can get it out to radmanovic who can hit the 3 ball for them.
sacramento gets an expiring contract, which would be less than what they would pay if they took odom’s expiring contract instead. and the lakers can also send them a future first round pick as well to sweeten the deal. with harrington, he can slash to the rim more consistently and also can provide more range and offensive consistency than odom. placing harrington along with martin, udrih, and miller would be a nice core for the kings and they still have garcia coming off the bench.
the lakers get what they want in a tough/tenacious artest. when he is focused, he is hard to stop. he gives the lakers an edginess that they need on the roster. we have an ultimate team with artest in the lineup and perhaps allow odom to facilitate the bench instead since he can play more uptempo with the likes of farmar, ariza, and sasha (if he re-signs). this would also make the lakers so much deeper and fills the void of turiaf’s departure. odom could play the backup PF and that gives the lakers all sorts of options for the 2nd unit. they can go smaller and much faster (like the suns/warriors) with odom at the 5, walton at the 4, ariza at the 3, sasha 2, and farmar 1.
damn offseason trade rumors
You are ridiculous. Odom has to be traded because other teams will want talent in return, including expiring contracts if possible. Odom has both of those! Think about it… you can’t just expect some RIDICULOUS dream trade to happen. If you were other teams… you’d want Odom. No one is going to act like Kevin McHale to the Lakers, like he did to Boston. Teams are not gonna give up their stars for some crappy players.
Odom for Marion straight up would be terrible for the Lakers. Only way I’d consider it is if Miami would take on Walton’s contract in addition.
LOL from South Park: “Excuse me, are you high, or incredibly stupid?”
wtf dont give mihm get rid of one of are 3 small fowards plus i dont like this trade becuase marion wants to be the center of attention on a team plus max money in which lakers dont have! keep the team how it is i wanna see a team stop the front court of lo,pau, and bynum which will be a mismatch against all teams
parich: if golden state is willing to get rid of harrington
and sactown is willing to get rid of artest in return for harrington
why wouldnt they just trade with each other?
For people who don’t think an LO/Mihm for Marion trade is not realistic, YOU GUYS ARE WRONG. This trade is more realistic than that for Artest.
In my opinion, the Lakers are ONLY going to trade LO if they get an expiring contract back in return. Marion is the final year of his $17M contract, which is what the Lakers want. Yes, they will get Marion’s talent, which is good, but at the same time, they get a major expiring contract, which is what the Lakers want for future financial flexibility.
Yes, Marion wants an extension of $15M, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE LAKERS WILL GIVE IT TO HIM! Essentially, if the Lakers trade for Marion, they could be renting Marion for only a year. I’m not saying they wouldn’t make him an offer after next season, but they won’t make a huge offer, in part because Ariza (if he has a good year) would need to be resigned, as he is an unrestricted free agent after next season, and his resigning would be cheaper than either Marion or LO. What’s the worse that could happen? Marion would walk, but the Lakers would still have Kobe, Pau, and Bynum plus the option to resign Ariza at a less expensive rate. Whether it be LO or Marion on the Lakers next year, at the end of next season, one of these players is going to be signed for less or one of these players will simply not be resigned.
Also, even if either LO and Marion do not resign with the Lakers, the Lakers would then be under the luxury cap and would have a little financial flexibility to offer their mid-level exception to a free agent, (the Lakers would be under the luxury cap if either LO or Marion aren’t resigned) perhaps Artest as he an unrestricted free agent next year.
Why would Miami want LO and Mihm? Both are expiring contracts totalling about $16.5M. Riley has always liked LO and would probably resign him (Wade is also good friends with LO). Furthermore, the Heat would welcome Mihm because they need a center. I know Mihm has been hurt, but there aren’t too many 7′0/7′1 centers in the league. Not to mention, the risk for Mihm isn’t very high because he only makes $2.5M next year.
LO and Mihm for Shawn Marion is a realistic trade (I’m not saying its going to happen, but it is realistic).
PARICH,
IM DEFININITELY NOT HIGH OR INCREDIBLY STUPID. IF MITCH COULD THINK UP SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THIS AND MAYBE WITH A LITTLE LUCK, CONVINCE BOTH TEAMS ABOUT SUCH A DEAL, IM SURE EVERY LAKER FAN WOULD LOVE THE TRADE I PROPOSED. THIS IS CREATIVITY NOT STUPIDITY. I, LIKE MANY OF THE OTHER LAKER FANS WHO CONTRIBUTE THEIR OPINIONS TO THIS SITE, ARE JUST ONE OF MANY IN THE LAKERSNATION WHO WISH TO SUPPORT THEIR HOME TEAM. I REALLY DO THINK THAT THIS DEAL IS A POSSIBILITY AND VERY LOGICAL AND IM SURE SOME WILL AGREE. YOU ARE JUST ENVIOUS THAT YOU CAN’T COME UP WITH SOMETHING, ANYTHING TO CONTRIBUTE EXCEPT EMPTY INSULTS. MAYBE YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS HIGH AND STUPID CAUSE YOU’RE THE ONE WHO WATCHES A CHILDISH AND IMMATURE CARTOON SUCH AS SOUTH PARK.

the best!!!!
I give about a 1% chance to this rumor and that’s generous.
Ariza?? Starting?? And you talk about Marion’s jumpshot?? Ariza shot is like Odom’s! When it leaves his hands more often than not its a miss! I do not believe Ariza can do that much developing especially coming off the bench behind the likes of Artest, Marion, or (cross my fingers and pray that its not) Odom. His playing time will be cut unless there is an unforseen injury! ARIZA WILL NOT BE A STARTING QUALITY SMALL FORWARD AT THE END OF THE SEASON DUE TO HIS DECREASE IN PLAYING TIME!!!!!!!!! When is he gonna get on the court???
alright the best trade is right here
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=25~849~532~617~2027~70~510&teams=13~14~14~23~23~13~10&te=&cash=
everybody gets what they want.
1. lakers get a Artest
2. Kings get a huge expiring contract from LO
3. Houston a versatile player in Marion
4. Those rumor of Mcgrady come true but instead of Detriot he goes to Miami. Miami can have a great line up with either Wade or Tracy playing the 1 and the other the 2 spot with Beasley playing the 3 spot.
I see this helping everybody out but will it happen I doubt it
GSPENCEOO1,
THIS IS RICKY, IM THE ONE WHO POSTED ABOUT THE 3 TEAM DEAL BETWEEN LA, SACTO, AND GS NOT PARICH.
THE REASON WHY GS AND SACTO WOULD NOT TRADE DIRECTLY WITH ARTEST/HARRINGTON IS BECAUSE WARRIORS COULD SERIOUSLY USE MORE BIGS (CENTERS/POWER FORWARDS). THE LAKERS COULD GIVE THEM RADMANOVIC WHO CAN PLAY PF FOR THEM AND GIVE THEM SHOOTING RANGE AND CAN HELP SPACE OUT THE FLOOR FOR ELLIS, JACKSON, AND MAGGETTE TO ATTACK THE RIM. THEY DONT NEED ARTEST CAUSE THEY WOULD BE LIKE THE LAKERS, GLUTTED WITH SMALL FORWARDS. AND THEY JUST SIGNED MAGS, SO THEY WONT BE LOOKING TO EXTEND ARTEST IN MY OPINION. AND THEY ALSO GET MIHM, HE CAN BACKUP BIEDRINS AND GIVE THEM MUCH NEEDED INSIDE PRESENCE.
FOR SACTO, THEY GET AN EXPIRING CONTRACT WHICH IS CHEAPER TO WORK WITH THAN ODOM’S AND HARRINGTON IS MORE CONSISTENT OFFENSIVELY THEN ODOM. THE KINGS CAN USE HIM ALONG SIDE MARTIN, UDRIH, AND MILLER AND THAT WOULD GIVE THEM A NICE CORE STILL. ALSO FOR THE KINGS HE WOULD BE CHEAPER/EASIER TO EXTEND THAN ARTEST AND IS LESS OF A PROBLEM TO DEAL WITH.
i gauruntee you that ariza will be starting nexy year or if the lakers get childess, one of those guys will be starting
noooo, DC i’m scared dat kobe gonna do an elton brand
Absolutely NOT!!! Why would the Lakers be shopping this hard for a small forward if they thought Ariza would be starting quality in a year! Artest Marion Posey Prince Wallace!!! All of these names have come up for possible trade scenarios for the Lakers!! If Ariza was even close to starting wouldn’t the most logical thing to do be just to keep Odom, let his contract expire and simply move Ariza to the starting role?? Why go through all of the trouble of trading for someone for a year???
ricky, I like the “out of the box” thinking in terms of trying to find a third team to make the trade work and maybe there may be a way to get Artest without giving up Odom with some other third team, but I doubt that any team would want Vlade or Mimh in any trade unless they’re getting some value along with it. For instance, if I were the GM of another team and I were forced to take on Vlade’s contract, I would want someone like Farmar or Odom as bait. Vlade is just a pure shooter who can’t create for himself or play defense. Also remember that fans tend to overvalue their own players over players on other teams, so if we think Vlade sucks, imagine how other teams feel about him.
657 is clearly an idiot.
And if we can get artest through a good deal

i agree
i agree that LO is better than marion and artest…
but if we are gonna trade him, i prefer for marion instead of artest…
and although all of this rumors, i think LO will be on lakers training camp…
