HOOPSWORLD: Reports yesterday suggested that Chicago Bulls’ forward Luol Deng and his agent were ready to issue an “ultimatum” to the Bulls, basically saying if Luol did not have a deal done by September 1st, that he would back away from negotiations and not negotiate again with the Bulls.
League sources suggested that the Lakers, Pistons, Heat and Jazz have all had discussions with Luol Deng’s camp about the framework of a sign-and-trade.

Why wouldn’t either team do this. Obviously, the Lakers would be getting the better part of the deal so I think it would take more than just one more Lakers player to make the deal work. But I would do this in a heart beat.

The Lakers are not going to do anything like this until they see how this team performs. The Warriors have made moves because they had to.
The Lakers are in a position to wait and see. Lamar will be on the Lakers when the training camp opens. We were two games away from a championship. The Lakers can afford to wait and see. Unless they are presented with a Gasol type trade no moves of this magnitude will happen.

People are pathetic if they think LO for Deng straight up is fair. What exactly has Deng done last year that impresses you all? I saw him have a season with nagging injuries (he either missed a game or performed bad). Chicago failed to put up a decent record in the Eastern Conference. Two summers ago, he was more interested in more money than a very REASONABLE extension offered by the Bulls. I don’t see how that fits well with the Lakers.

Daryl I.-my thoughts exactly. We can’t make a trade just to make a trade ’cause we want to see something different. You have to be a pretty special player to trade LO in my opinion. My wish list-in order- is Matrix/Battier/Prince/Ron Ron. None of those are going to happen, but those 4 would probably be an upgrade over LO. And you need to factor in that any new comer needs to learn the system-not an easy task. Getting Pau for what we paid was a gift-no one is going to help the “Show” get any better for free.

Deng is a future All-Star; he had an off year and STILL had good numbers. Odom for Deng; do it.
the good thing about getting deng is the fact that he would have to be a sign and trade, meaning the lakers would have him for more then one year. if you team player like kobe, deng, pau, and bynum together for multiple years they will win multiple title and thats what it is all about

don’t know how credible this is because yahoo says that deng and his agent have given the bulls 2 weeks (from july 21 so that would be august 4th) and not september 1st to reach a contract extension before he decides to walk next summer

I actually think this would be a smarter pick up than Artest. Not because Deng is better than Artest, because he is definitely not. But because the Lakers would not have to give up Odom (or should not have to) to pick up Deng. I could totally see the Bulls be willing to pick up a Vlad Radmanovic, Luke Walton, and Chris Mihm to make this one happen!
And remember, right now Luol Deng’s stock is down a little after being hurt most of last year and not being very effective. We might be able to steal him by giving up some role players.

This trade would only happen if Lakers owner Jerry Buss’ commits himself to paying the luxury tax for the next 5 years or so, which I doubt.
Think about it, having Kobe at $21M ($23M and $24.8M he following years), Pao at $15M ($16.4M and $17.8M the following years), Bynum, who will eventually be given an extension that would be a least $10M+ per year and Deng, who would want at least $10M+ year as well, plus all the salaries of all the other Laker plaers – Highly doubtful.

You gotta be kidding; the Bulls aren’t gunna give Deng away for crappy players and terrible contracts. The only way Deng comes is if Odom goes, and he’s definately worth it. Deng is a future All-Star. He might not be as good as Artest YET, but he will be, and he has his head screwed on, unlike Artest, and doesn’t carry any baggage.

First off, to whoever said Deng can’t shoot, he can. He was above 30% last season. That’s good enough, you can expect some of those weren’t open unlike Vujacic’s shots. Second, Deng will not come cheap, and I don’t think the Bulls will give Deng AND Thomas… just won’t happen. I’d be happy with Nocioni and Thomas though. Third, we might be able to get rid of our bad contracts, but they not all at once. The bulls MIGHT be open to taking Radmanovic. With all that said, someone said the Lakers won’t move right now. I can see where you’re coming from and don’t necessarily disagree, but the Lakers regular season and playoff performances were two completely different teams, so making a change now would not necessarily be out of the question, as with either team, the one you have now or the one after a trade would still perform at an unknown level once the playoffs come… unless we don’t make it… HAH!

We would have to give up Odom because of salary matching. Deng would want a sign and trade probably 10-12 mill.
Lakers should not give up odom for just Deng , which means add in Gordon who also wants sign and trade for 8-10mill. So now you got Odom plus Vlade to match salaries of about 20mill. Only problem is Lakers would be in lux tax. I like this trade , but would buss give the dollars?
