Bring Kwame back? Phil always liked him and they could’ve used him in Finals

We’ve discussed this topic before and now it appears with all the transactions this may be a reality. Phil, always liked Kwamba.

HoopsHype: The Lakers made it to the NBA Finals last season and found themselves in a collection of dire mismatches with Boston. For starters, Los Angeles had no one to contend with Celtics center Kendrick Perkins’ size and strength. “They could have used Kwame in the Finals,” said one Lakers insider.

Tex Winter, the longtime coach and team consultant, was in Las Vegas to evaluate the Lakers’ summer league team. Winter said he is totally out of the loop on personnel decisions with the team and hadn’t heard of the Kwame deliberation, but Winter said it makes sense, especially for Lakers coach Phil Jackson. “Phil has always liked Kwame,” Winter said. “Phil’s always felt that defensively he’s pretty good.”

    Better than Mihm i guess

    Farmar, Sasha, Ariza, Vlad, Brown?

  2. Banzai says:

rofl….as long as Kwame does not start and is a back up..of course if he does come back I do not want to see Phil put him in at the wrong time in a game….Kwame and Luke can be momentum killers.

  3. lakaluva says:

This team deserves to miss the playoffs if they are STUPID enough to bring STEEL HANDS back. Kwame carried a dark cloud over the team. Notice every team that he was apart of sucked!!! As soon as the Lakers traded him there was relief in the entire city of LA, why bring that dark cloud back again? If thats the best the Lakers can do in the offseason, then Mitch should be fired!!! Hell, go get Brian Skinner, go to the local city parks… Im sure there is someone that can atleast catch a ball out there.

  4. Mamba2410 says:

Only if Kwame is a back-up then I’d bring him back…but sign him for the league minimum, then we’d be able to trade Mihm, LOL…don’t trade him, in fact, don’t trade anyone Mitch, PLEASE!

  5. Whatsa says:

If Mihm can’t do work.. just resign Mbenga or Kwame.. Kwame knows our system, he just needs some grip on his hands.

Only sign him for the minimum.

And yeah he could play defense.

  6. yash says:

LOL THis dude sucks. The only reason Phil wud want him back is for sucking his dick. But he’s avg on Defense. If we bring him back — no second round this year.

  7. vintij says:

Do not give out money like its a charity, stop giving money to mihm. Give money to kwame brown, but not more than what he is worth which is basically less than a million. He has been taking money from clubs and not performing on the court. He should be arrested for grand larceny but he can play defense so thats a plus. Just never ever ever ever ever ever throw him the ball.

  8. DCLAKER says:

    We still would’ve loss,ya’know why?

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=8j9nsqv9m6M!!

  9. ehhhhh says:

    NO NO NO NO NO!

  10. Tim M. says:

do it. for cheap. mihm hasn’t

  11. Tim M. says:

do it. for cheap. mihm hasn’t played basketball in five years.

  12. Michaelmichael says:

bring him back bring him back

    3 years 1.4 million

  13. Freshh says:

    Are u kidding me?

Look at the situation he’ll be back to.
    He was booed .
Remember that Memphis Game where he made the game winning freethrow
he had that open dunk where he MISSED IT
and tried to play it off like his eye got hit.

Coming back will be tragic, any little mistake can be fatal
like stephen A said, we should be throwing a parade for him
leaving, it’s all for the best.

Only way i’ll take him back
is if odom is traded, and marion/artest comes iN
    and he takes the minimum.
    but as of now
    NO!

  14. John Barry Sux says:

Sign him to a one year, 7 million dollar contract… trade him for ron artest. Sign him again next year and repeat the formula.

  15. Michael_23 says:

Kwame moves his feet well and is a solid defensive player. I’ll give em that. He’s no Ben Wallace, or Jermaine O’ Neal, and not definitely not like KG.

On offense, never let him touch the ball unless he’s getting an offensive rebound and never let him make plays. Bring him back for cheap, and I’m good with that.

As long Staples Center don’t boo him, I’m good.

  16. KING BQ says:

    Crazy???
    LOL????
    KWAME????

    MUHUHAHAHAHAHAHA… wtf meign?!

  17. Kurt says:

I think the most interesting part of this story is about Bynum and his doctors (read the whole story linked). Lakers doctors took a lot of heat on message boards from fans because Bynum took so long to recover, but he blew off the Lakers docs in favor of his own people, who mess it up.

  18. David says:

What about Carl Landry?? I know he is restricted, but him and Houston are having issues. Lets give him a 3-year 9 Million deal. If Houston matches it then so be it. Then we have a nice replacement for Turiaf. Screw Kwame, he sucks.

  19. Fred A. says:

    DO IT MITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. xtro says:

Do it! What do we have to lose.

  21. DCLAKER says:

Y’all trippin’!This ONLY guy that can bring us a ‘Chip,

    VS BOSTON…http://youtube.com/watch?v=LN9P_au2-uw&feature=related!

  22. gugy says:

No, Kwame sray where you are.
    The dude is a joke

if i was kwame i would watch this every morning during breakfast, to motivate myself…… SIKE! this man was a BONAFIDE SCRUB, who wouldv’e prefered smoking MOTA instead of working on his game!

  24. Fred A. says:

    Trust me on this one.
If Kwame gets another chance to play with the Lakers, you will see a whole new Kawme Brown.

  25. DCLAKER says:

Tyrus or Luol, take your pick ?!?

  26. mike says:

i kno his game is suspect but bring him bacc would help use way more then it will not mitch be smart do it ….big body good defender young & cheap he would be a great sub player 4 bynum & gasol do it !!!!!!!!!

  27. True Lakers Fan says:

    fuck no

  28. daboss1849 says:

sign him to a 1 yr 9mil contract and trade him at the tradeline like we did last yr for someone much better…

  29. lakerferlife7 says:

wow do not bring this underachieving bitchh back

  30. Kobe8>24 says:

i’m sorry, but no. HELL NO..

  31. devan says:

hahahahahah. god this is sickening. we would have gotten more of a beatdown with him on our team. i dont care if hes coming off the bench. hes a loser. jesus. just cause you guys like the personality of the guy doesnt mean hes a good fit for our team (any team). his defense was shit too.

  32. Imadogg says:

    Hmm let me think…

No no no no no and no. But wait….. no. He’s Kwame. He sucks ass. No.

  33. rawnnn says:

i think kwame gets blocked in that picture…

who cares, we jus need his defense anyways..

    BRINK KWAMBO SLICE BACK!

  34. alex says:

no. no. no. no. AND no.

why are we talking about this

  35. xtro says:

    Doooo ittt!

  36. Rasarx says:

I like Kwame as a person and I feel bad for all that has happened to him. I think at some point he had great potential but that potential was severely compromised when they pulled him out of high school and stuck him in the pressure cooker of NBA. Some people do well but most personalities aren’t too adept at taking the pressure. Rather than developing his skills he lost those he had. If I remember correctly MJ was extremely harsh with him during those formative NBA years and may have killed Kwame’s spirit.

As it is now, Kwame is damaged goods. I haven’t seen anything to believe he has repaired the damage. He might be better off leaving NBA entirely because he never developed certain skills (such as receiving the ball and handling it), and he has completely lost his confidence. It was painful to watch him out there last year because he seemed like an inexperienced boy soldier put in battle to fight nasty men. He just did not want to be there. I think that one game in which he did everything wrong completely wiped out all his remaining confidence. It was sad to see it but PJ thought he was doing him a great favor by not pulling him out, allowing him to work through his problems because PJ knew if KB didn’t leave that game on a positive note he might never recover, so even though the game was on the line PJ kept him in there, and KB messed up over and over and over and over, until it became clear keeping him in there was doing more damage to the poor guy. Such games are defining games. I have seen in it boxing when a fighter loses it in one game and gets washed up.

I think Kwame is too fragile of a person to have repaired the problem.

  37. VoiceofReason says:

I wouldn’t mind if hes a back up.

  38. Sako says:

No way!!!!! the guy plays with no heart and passion. he wouldn’t have done sh!t in the finals

  39. Kwame, could be the man behind the scene. The presure would be off him and besides he owes us big time. Mitch he needs a 2nd chance at the minuium salary. I believe Kwame will step up to the plate on defense as a backup and have something to prove to all who doubt his potential. He is big, young wide body and knows the Lakers system. Phil, please give this guy another chance we can’t loose at this cost. He is better then Chris Mims and a better fit them Mbinga. It makes sense as a defensive big man backup.

  40. LAKERS4LIFE says:

DO IT!!!!! THEN WE CAN TRADE KWAME TO THE KINGS FOR ARTEST IN FEBRUARY!!!!

  41. lakers4life says:

[Comment ID #46655 Will Be Quoted Here]

or that they traded him for an all-star pf that helps i think

  42. DCLAKER says:

Tyrus Thomas, JR Smith, or Luol Deng,ONE OF THESE GUYS SHOULD BE A LAKER!!!

  43. Motown says:

If we did sign him i think he’d play better because ther’d be less pressure on him as he wouldn’t be expected to contribute a lot on offense, and wouldn’t play as many minutes, and he’s gotta know whatever team he lands with next that could be his last chance and he’s gotta work hard to keep his dreams alive.

What he has going for him is size, strength, and not a bad rebounder, he’s a good enough replacement for Ronny and still relatively young, maybe, maybe one day he might be ok.

For a minimum deal there isn’t really a lot to lose, if he’s wack, then sit his ass on the bench, and as a back up center he’s better than Mbenga and Mihm has a lot of question marks over whether he’ll actually play.

  44. ricky says:

this is what i have been saying all this time. we can really use kwame off the bench believe it or not. he may have no offensive game whatsoever, however when he is healthy, i still think he does a pretty good job moving his feet and plays some good defense. he can defenitely be our best forward/center behind bynum and gasol to give us more size, strength, and defense. he also does a fairly decent job blocking shots so it would be a plus to have his size inside now that ronny is gone. i would not mind having kwame back at all.

i dont want to blow up this team just yet with all these odom trade rumors. as nice as it would be to get artest, its not worth trading odom right now. unless we can get artest without losing odom, farmar, or ariza in any of the trade talks, then im all for it. he played along side gasol really well and i think he can help us even more once bynum returns to form. with those 3, our front court would be awesome. i would also like to see the lakers go out and sign maurice evans if possible, i really like him as a laker and he played well for us when he was on the team.

i really want sasha back too, or we can sign and trade him to chicago for luol deng LoL!! that would be nice but obviously not possible, but i really like deng and wish he could join us. that kid has some game alright!!

  45. Sako says:

The guy has no heart or passion to try and turn his career around. he’s scum and he’ll always be scum. if we get him and by some miracle we make it to the Finals again, does it look like he’ll give a fuk and make a dunk or catch the ball or lockdown the guy he’s defending? no. simply no.

  46. DCLAKER says:

    Can Kwame do this,

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=VSNOTY6PXc0!!!!!!!!!

  47. Sako says:

[Comment ID #46760 Will Be Quoted Here]

    Kwame can do this:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=APKVIuBDZcw

it can become very useful for us during the Finals

  48. lskerfan567 says:

guys do you remmeber when kwame waqs right by the basket and insted of throwing it down he did a lil girl layup and ended up missing it, he does that at least 3 times a game

  49. DCLAKER says:

hahahaha,Sako,THANX MY BROTHER,for a ‘Open and Shut’ case.

  50. Short Diezel says:

we should trade him for Phil Jackson

  51. louis says:

Well Lakers Nation,I don’t know about this, but he could be
useful. He could be a backup center for Andrew Byndum, and he is tall could play defense if he really tries. All he has to work on getting a grip on his hands. As long as Staple Center don’t boo him then I am O.K. with it.

  52. lskerfan567 says:

[Comment ID #46781 Will Be Quoted Here]

candace parker could punk kwame and drop 30 on his ass

dont get kwame, get swamaki walker

  53. lakers101 says:

    KwAME WHOOOOOOOOOOOO?????????????????? KWAMMEEEEEEEEE …i meAn WAMBEEEEEEE…SaY wATTTT..BrinG hiM BAk????????PLzzzzzz

  54. Phil and Mitch just make the dam move and bring him back as a second chance backup. Keep the team intack as we are getting some injured guys back and should be at full strength and need to see what these guys can do as a team when healthy. We have all the parts in place and with Kwame’s big wide body as guy who knows the system. What can we lose. Just don’t pass him the ball on offense and rather ask him to block out, set screens and rebound the dam ball and by chance if he is in position to score tell him to dunk the dam ball every time. If he fails to follow through with this directive then cut his ass and send him packing.

  55. Kwame, Kwame, Kwame!!!! Swamaki my Ass!!!

  56. Laker Fan 818 says:

LMFAO…Kwame Brown would’ve gotten us swept in the Finals.
I saw his last game as a Laker, and I saw a game against the Suns when he got more turnovers than points. He’s horrible. Glad we got Gasol, cause now we r gonna dominate every team, especially with Bynum back!

  57. BIGAL says:

    HELL NO
