Garbajosa signs with Russian squad Khimki

Remember all the Garbajosa talk? Pau’s Olympic teammate and ex-Raptor signed with a Russian team.

Krepsinis.net: Khimki, the Russian League club that signed Carlos Delfino offered Jorge Garbajosa a 4 million euros NET salary or $6.4 million US NET salary, which is equal to a $10 million gross per year NBA contract.

Here is a quick translation…

Spain’s Newspaper “Marca” report Jorge Garbajosa is choosing Russian league team “Chimki” coached by Kestutis Kemzura. This makes Jorge the 4th highest paid basketball player in Europe only eclipsed by Carlos Delfino, Theodore Papaloukas, and Sarunas Jasikevicius.

His decision comes after his contract with the Toronto Raptors was cut short. His two choices were LA Lakers and the Russian club.

  5. LakersFirst says:

More and more NBA players are starting to look at Europe as an option because of the weak U.S. dollar. As I mentioned in another blog, don’t be surprised if European teams begin recruiting high school players – “do you want to make millions now, or do you want wait a year, play in college (and possibly get hurt) and then make your money.
