2008-09 Schedule Released; Lakers opener against Blazers

The Los Angeles Lakers schedule was released moments ago and the Lakers opening game is at Staples, on October 28, 2008, with the Portland Traiblazers. (Bynum vs. Oden). And to nobody’s surprise the Lakers will host the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day. Can these guys ever have a Christmas off?

A few notes after reviewing the schedule…

  • Pretty balanced home/road to start the season. 9 of first 20 are road games (with one being the Clips).
  • Six game road trip in Jan/Feb (also 7 of 8 and 8 of 10), including Toronto, Boston, Cleveland.
  • Seven game road trip in March/April, including Detroit.
  • 24 of our last 38 are road games
  • Last 20 games include 12 on the road (with no “freebie” in LA). Last 10 games are 5-5.
  • We have 16 back-2-back games. The NBA record is 17.
  • Lakers individual tickets will go on sale on Saturday, October 4th.

wow… that november schedule looks mighty tough!

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 VoiceofReason

Lets not lose opening night now. I feel if Lakers can beat Houston we’ll have at least a 16 - 0 start.

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 LD2k

Added a few notes. Interesting schedule. It’s going to be tough, but not as tough as last year imo.

nice thinking but your not living up to your screen name….but we should have a nice start, but have a strong finish…kb wont play any preseason games or i would say the 1st 7-9 games of the season opener!

Kobe recovery time is said to be about 3 weeks. He got September to rest. He’ll be ready by preseason.

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 Lakers 24 7

He’ll be ready by pre-season but he’ll just sit out just to be sure, I wouldn’t want him playing in the pre season whether he’s healthy or not. Save that energy for when it counts.

Schedule looks fine. The tough end should get us tuned up for the playoffs.

    Bynum v. Oden. Hell yeah!

Woah…….. who said kobe is going out for 7-9 game …
he is just going to rest traning camp and preseason ….i dont think he will miss any games….

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 KOBEISKING

    Christmas Thumping of boston…..=)

  15. Gravatar Icon 15 tamir

we also have two five game home stands. I think the west will be even deeper than last year (if thats possible) We need kobe for every game!

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 LD2k

Don’t forget - our win % (even with playoffs included) with Pau in the lineup is very high. Imagine adding Bynum into that mix with an entire season to gel.

    I’m DAMN excited :)

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 me

kobes most likely not ganna play preseason and training camp because he hasnt had a rest since finals. the olympics is better preperation then training camp and pre, so he should take those weeks off get energy back and rest his pinkie

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 S-quire

I was gonna whine a little bit (with no right b/c last year our end of season schedule was very favorable) but this isn’t so bad. Our last 15 games or so when we need to build momentum, although largely on the road, are very doable. Also, 5/7 of our last games are at home. And the last one will be playoff atmosphere game at home vs. Utah which will get us especially ready for the post-season. Stay Healthy Lake Show!

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 SILO

    HELL YEAH!!!!!!!
I CAN GO TO THE LAKERS SUNS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    CANT WAIT

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 LAL4Life

Kobe won’t need to play preseason because he is still in shape from the olympics. Plus its Kobe who is never out of shape anyway. But the only thing that worries me about the beginning is that it might take a few weeks to get the rotation going and that monster starting lineup on the same page. But thats a small issue. This is the quietest off season I can remember since the title runs in 00-02. Im so excited for this season…

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 Lorenzo

WTF at the back to back road games on the 4th and 5th of February. And the second game of the back-to-back is against BOSTON no less after playing a much improved Toronto team the night before. Wow.

The first time the Lakers play Phoenix is on Nov 20 and TnT has that game. You know Earnie, Kenny and Charles are going to play up that Shaq rap against Kobe and have some fun with it. Can’t wait for Kobe to go off and hopefully get that elusive monster dunk on the “Big Has Been”.

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 kingkb24

hard at the end but no way near as hard as it was last year in the beginning

Them Celtic fans a buncha ignorant idiots. This is what they are calling our meeting on christmas day

Thursday 12/25 at Lakers - The “We Told You Bynum Won’t Make a Difference” Blowout

We went to the finals without our starting center and now all of a sudden there going to blow us out with our full line up in tact. LMAO!!! Can’t wait to till next season starts, Celtic fans will be so embarassed. Its going to be great!

It’d be interesting to see if they get to the finals without their starting center for half a season…

This upcoming season will be a test for everyone. Bynum/Odom/Gasol/Kobe gives me more hope than any other team out there. Get ready for pure domination next season.

hahahah i love those guys at TNT

honest prediction after seeing the schedule: around 65 wins, 68 at most, and around 60 if we loose to many silly ones (which we usually do)

  35. Gravatar Icon 35 iskerfan567

bynum and oden rivalry begins, []D[][]V[][]D, how can you not love this opener, we be going head to head with this team for the next 5 to 8 years

  36. Gravatar Icon 36 Ignard

Who didn’t see the Christmas Day match up coming?

  37. Gravatar Icon 37 ricky

what a way to kick of the lakers’ season by playing the best young, up and coming team in the nba. i am so looking forward to BYNUM VS ODEN. that is gonna be the most anticipated matchup for the upcoming season. both are huge 20 year old, 7′0 monsters, however bynum does have about 35 pounds on oden. and also, andrew has been in the nba 2.5 years already (went by fast) and he does have kareem helping him out ever since the start so i would think andrew would have the edge immediately, but its still gonna be an AMAZING matchup nonetheless.

    then you got

    kobe vs roy (good matchup)
    odom vs webster/outlaw
    gasol vs aldrige (good matchup)

ITS STILL EARLY I KNOW, BUT THE LAKERS SHOULD LOOK TO SIGN A BACKUP BIG MAN SOON BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

    1. JOSH POWELL (GOOD FIT, NUMBERS SIMILAR TO THAT OF RONNY’S LAST SEASON)

    2. ELTON BROWN (PLAYED MANY NBDL GAMES AND SEEMS LIKE A SOLID REBOUNDER AT 6′9 250)

WHAT OTHER BIGS ARE AVAILABLE, ANYONE KNOW??

  38. Gravatar Icon 38 ricky

ANOTHER OPTION FOR THE LAKERS CAN BE A TRADE SENDING VLADIMIR RADMANOVIC TO MIAMI FOR UDONIS HASLEM. THAT WOULD MAKE THIS TEAM NEAR PERFECT. HE WOULD BE A GREAT FIT FOR US.

  39. Gravatar Icon 39 ricky

I’M REALLY HOPING THE LAKERS SIGN ANOTHER BIG MAN TO THE ROSTER AND MY 2 TOP CHOICES ARE JOSH POWELL AND ELTON BROWN.

HOWEVER, IF THE LAKERS DECIDE TO STAND PAT, THEN I THINK THIS SHOULD BE THE LINEUP AND ROTATION FOR THE TEAM:

    STARTING 5

    C BYNUM
    F GASOL
    F ODOM
    G BRYANT
    G FISHER

    BENCH MOB

    C MIHM/MBENGA (RE-SIGN??)
    F RADMANOVIC
    F ARIZA/WALTON (INTERCHANGEABLE)
G VUJACIC/KARL OR CRAWFORD (I WOULD RATHER HAVE CRAWFORD)
    G FARMAR/YUE (SIGN ??)

  40. Gravatar Icon 40 Mon

yeah, we need a PF or C. The likes of AC Green, Rodman, Rick Fox, and Horace Grant….i missed those guys

    Imagine :) Fisher/Farmer/Crawford
    Bryant/Vujivic/Mitchelle
    Odom/Ariza/Karl
    Gasol/Milici/Powell(if?)
    Bynum/Mihm/Mebanga

Great call mate. Vlad and Luke are the ones classified as “expendables.” I think any other players that will get significant amounts of playing are “untouchables,” not to me, but at least to the Lakers FO.

Good luck next Tuesday, but I hope it will be a game that will be known as the Blazer’s coming out party. We split w/ you last season, but this season we added Oden, Rudy, and Bayless. Plus LA and Roy are one year further along. Go Blazers!!
