Along with Coop’s #21, Byron Scott’s #4 should be retired too. With both those guys hitting threes like layups, Magic’s, Kareem’s and Worthy’s jobs were a lot easier.

Razor Ramon,
I’m not that old. I started watching hoops really young and the Lakers have always been my sqaud. I grew up on those teams in the 80’s and nostalgia drove me to write about Coop just because he was part of the best teams I ever saw wear Lakers jerseys. But honestly, I miss a lot of the players that have played for the team over the years. One of my favorite guys was Van Exel. I loved his moxie and that flash that he brought as a playmaker. But, yeah, I love the 80’s. But I love those Shaq/Kobe teams too. Just like I love our current team. I can’t wait to see Bynum/Gasol/Odom on the front line and I really want to see if Farmar can take that next step.

He diserves is just as much as all those 80s LAKERS player that got their jersey’s hung in the rafters, MAGIC, JAMES, KAREEM, um I might be missing one, if so no disrespect to that player. I hope that before COOP passes that we all will see that number 21 jersey hang from the LA rafters.

Coop was one of the best defenders and always played his hardest no matter what the situation. My favorite play of him was in Game 4 of the 1987 Finals when he and AC Green went up and beat the stuff outta Larry Bird’s shot. Then 20 yrs. later he told FSN that they were going for his head and missed That made me laugh and will always remember him for that…

It’s funny that this is posted (HELLUVA ARTICLE)about one of my favorite players of all time ’cause on Sat. ESPN CLASSIC showed game 4 of The 1987 Finals,Lakers vs Celtics and I still get chills everytime I see Magic go up with that “baby sky hook”…Classic!

I think LO is more M.Coop than Scottie Pippen and Ariza is The “New” James Worthy.
