Lakers trying to find right role for Odom

Daily News: The calendar has switched over to October, even though the temperature on this unusually warm Thursday still felt more like July or August. And inside the Lakers training facility, the team practiced more like it still was too.

Experiments were in full concoction still, the ideas dreamed up during a summer of reflection taking shape on the court, as well as off it, even though they may never see the light of day once the regular season begins.

Currently, the ideas du jour involve Lamar Odom. More specifically, whether he’s best suited to be the Lakers point-forward, point-guard, sixth man or small forward.

“Usually I fiddle around with things in the exhibition season,” Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. “We’ll see how it works out. I don’t know if you guys remember last year’s exhibition season…”

Last year Jackson experimented with having Kobe Bryant play the “push guard.” In other words, the guard bringing the ball up the court.

Nice idea, but it didn’t take.

So how’s Odom looking as a point guard?

First comment! Odom…good luck…you’ll need it…I just hope that we keep you long enough to get you into the perfect role for you in the Triangle, I want you to stay dude, Lakers, I’ll say this 3 times: “DON’T TRADE ODOM!” “DON’T TRADE ODOM!!” “DON’T TRADE ODOM!!!”

If LO wants to start then this starting line should look good:
    Fisher
    Bryant
    Radmonvic
    Odom
    Mihm
Then we would have a powerful bench- sike just playin :)

This will be Lamar’s 5th season with the Lakers and 10th as a pro and he’s still looking for his “role”?

I’m for giving the Odom-Bynum-Gasol frontline a try, but in case it doesn’t work out, then the Lakers should pursue Shawn Marion.

    Lakers get: Shawn Marion

    Heat get: Lamar Odom
    Luke Walton (or Vladimir Radmonivic)

Odom and Wade clicked pretty well when they teammates in Miami, so the Heat might be enticed to do that deal.
