Odom is practicing with 2nd unit per Phil

We’ve all discussed this before - will Odom be a valuable 6th man or should he be there with the starting unit? Phil chimes in…

LA Times: We’re having Lamar come in and play off the bench so that he can start thinking about how he can help the team and what he can do when he does that,” Coach Phil Jackson said. “But I don’t know if I’ll experiment with it in a game yet.”

If Odom became a reserve, he could still play substantial minutes, Jackson said.

“If the team’s successful out on the floor, you want to keep that group going, so if a guy comes in and plays, you play him until he’s tired,” he said. “We [could] really get a sixth guy who can play 34 minutes with ease.”

Ariza is earning that starting spot at the three anyway.

This just means that Odom is going to be gone from the Lakers soon.
Once he is not wanted in the 2nd unit well you know the rest.

ok, lamar is gonna play a role similar to manu ginobli. hes still gonna see starters minutes. when hes with the second unit he can run the offense and get better scoring opportunities, instead of watching kobe with the ball

I’m starting to think this is a good idea because he looks lost out there with the starting 5.

Phil is not being truthful about ‘leaving a guy in if he is doing well”. That has been one of our bigger complaints about Phil. If a guy is hot he takes him out and you don”t see him again until he has cooled down and become demovated. He needs to ride a hot hand sometimes when it is not Kobe. I sometimes wonder if there is something in a contract that says Kobe has to take the most shots or be the leading scorer every night. This would be a better team if they would stick with the hot hand and ride it until it cools off.

finally phil had the cajones put LO on the bench. we are going to be more deadly with LO coming off the bench, just like that one guy said earlier, it would be like manu ginobili, we have enough scoring and rebounding wiht the starting 5 ariza just gives us more of a defensive team, LO would simply push the offense and do whatever LO does w/ the second unit. hey that second unit is not bad, LO,machine, rad man, luke, whoever.

Lamar looked pretty good coming off the bench in the Win vs. the Sacremento Queens. Here’s my proposed line-ups:

    Kobe/Sasha
    Fisher/Farmar
    Bynum/mBenga
    Gasol/Powell
    VladRad/Odom

    first unit

    farmar-energy
    kobe-perimeter scoring
    luke-intangibles
vlad-opens up space with his shooting
    gasol- post scoring

    fisher-intangibles
sasha-opens up space with his shooting
    ariza-energy
    lamar-perimeter scoring
    bynum-low post scoring

wrong, why would you want to change the line-ups. I dont think farmar should start. but i think fisher will eventually move down to SG. bynum and powell work good together.

    FISH
    KOBE
    ARIZA
    GASOL
    BYNUM

    FARMAR
    SASHA
    VLAD
    LAMAR
    POWELL

    OR

    FARMAR
    SASHA
    LUKE/LO
    POWELL
    BYNUM
