2008-09 All-Breakout Team: Jordan Farmar
Good to know that our hometown Laker is finally getting some recognition that he deserves. With the stellar game he had last night, I know we can expect more of the same this upcoming season.

I’d have no reservations about making Farmar a breakout player if I knew he would start. He’s only 21, he’s a good athlete, he can shoot, he took a strong step forward last season, and his biggest shortcoming (a chronic inability to draw fouls) seems easily remedied. Unfortunately, the Lakers already have veteran starter Derek Fisher and probably won’t want to rock the boat; additionally, they’re talking about spotting Lamar Odom minutes at the point, too. All of which means Farmar must content himself with being a really, really good backup.

I see Farmar as the most improved player or possibly the sixth man of the year, as well as Vujacic.

I have to admit, Farmar is playing very well in the preseason. You can see that when he’s on the court with the second team, he is stepping up as the leader of that second unit directing the players where to go.
If you want to see what can be done with motivation and dedication – look at Farmar and Sasha.
If you want to see what happens when these qualities are lacking – look at Lamar.
Another guy lacking in the motivation and dedication department is Vlad Rad.
