Kobe's Circus Shot

Hoopology: Time for Kobe to go Kyra

kobe_oh_noesIt is time for Kobe Bean Bryant to get his Kyra Sedgwick on. It’s time to be The Closer.

He’s been here before. He has experienced triumph, like eliminating the Sacramento Kings in overtime of game 7 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals. He has also failed, blowing a 3-1 lead against the Phoenix Suns in 2006.

But for Kobe to remain a relevant top tier superstar, he must continue to close out cases.

He must keep making hit records or soon he will become the NBA’s version of hip-hop’s Big Daddy Kane; well respected and revered in the game, but far removed from making hit records again.

The new youth movement ushered in by Kobe has caught up with him. It is nothing now for rookies to come in and score 30 to 40 points on any given night.

Kevin Durant, who admitted to being scared to even speak to Bryant as a rookie because he was such a fan, in his second season, put up 25 point’s per game.

Younger players like Danny Granger and Brandon Roy have become All-Stars, and in the waiting are O.J. Mayo and Derrick Rose.

So as Soulja Boy’s Tellem continues to soar in popularity, Jay-Z has to make another platinum record. His latest album was liked by his core audience, but it was not a worldwide hit like his others. This is where Kobe Bryant finds himself.

Should Kobe’s fans be satisfied with his current discography? He already has 3 rings, an MVP, numerous appearances on the All-NBA and Defensive teams, and is on pace to become the leading scorer in Lakers history and in the top 10 all time.

Would his fans be fine if he were to never win another MVP award or championship ring?

I’m sure the answer is no, and Kobe himself probably would not be satisfied. But it is up to him to make sure that doesn’t happen.

As each year goes by without winning, each old accomplishment starts to become less and less relevant. And with every 15 point game like in Game 4 of the Rockets series, he makes himself look more human. With every 5-24 performance as in Game 3 of the Jazz series, the question of who Kobe is and not who he WAS starts to come into play.

We don’t want Kobe to become our Al Bundy, and go on and on about how he scored 4 touchdowns in one game.

Yes, we know he’s scored 81 points; he’s put up 60’s and 70’s too. He’s hit sick game winners on Ruben Patterson, and flew back from court to drop 30’s on these same Houston Rockets in the playoffs.

But will that be all? Will we ever hear another Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, or Its A Big Daddy Thing?

We will find out if Kobe still has that Brenda Leigh Johnson in him.

Kobe is itching to get thid 4th just so he will be above Shaq. BUT in order for him to satisfy his utlimate goal he has to be thinking of mutiple titles. Im thinking 4 more. I mean he is shooting to become the best ever and is order for him to do that i would say he has to beat out MJ. Its gonna be hard though because i cant see Phil Hanging around any longer than 2 more years. So the odds are stcked against him.

peg! peg! a fat woman walked into toyota center, but she didn’t get a chance to sing because while i scored 30 points, i needed almost 30 shots to do it, including going 2 for 6 in crunch time during the 4th quarter…

    peg?

The NBA has become a freakin set-up! …The more replays are clearly shown, the more obvious it becomes, how these corrupted NBA refs can determine a “FOUL” outcome!
…Unless a system-(Use of Instant Replay) is put in place, such as what the NFL has, bogus outcomes in the NBA will run rampant!
…They have reached a level of expertise on how to tweak certain calls in critical moments, to un-level the playing field for their desired outcome!

Post Script: … Because of this unrestrained power that is exalted to these so-called referees, it has become very difficult, if not impossible, for any team in this league, no matter how good or talented they may be, to overcome even just a few well placed enigmatic/corrupted calls in today’s NBA ball game!

Damn, looking like I was wrong Gsmall.

  15. Deus_Ex says:

It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that these playoffs are rigged.

    It is not Rocket Science,
…It’s mass hysteria, fueled by ESPN Hoopla, for the Underdog-(Rockets) and against the Hated Lakers!

    Clear Cases in Point;

…When the targeted/victimized player-(Kobe) gets whistled for a technical foul, as the opposing player-(Artest) clearly mugs his targeted victim-(Kobe), the already corrupted referee, attempts to minimize damage to the underdog, as he inconspicuously inflicts his will, on what replays later show is a complete and utter phantom call!

…A less than obvious kicked ball is whistled against the targeted team-(Lakers) early in the ball game, but later in this same game, on a very similar, but with slightly more clear and obvious intent to kick the ball, an inconsistent whistle “IS NOT” blown against the protected team-(Rockets)!

…When the targeted player-(Kobe) is clearly hacked on his shots, as replays clearly show, but no whistle is heard, this lends to the mass hysteria to falsely inject the false belief on a legitimate defensive stop!

…When the protected player-(Landry) attacks the rim, while he shifts the ball to one hand and clearly clears out space with the other hand-on a clear offensive foul, but again no whistle is heard, as the wagging finger would suggest!

…These calls/no calls clearly intended to maintain the positive momentum for the underdog-(Rockets), while it snuffs out any legitimate momentum shift for the targeted/victimized team-(Lakers)!

…All this lending up to the hoopla, as fuel for ESPN’s late night rhetoric!

These are just a few examples of the “Enigmatic Officiating” that has been going around this entire bushwhack league!
