[Comment ID #79275 Will Be Quoted Here]

You really got to be careful. One rule that's especially good to follow is if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Certified is a really loose term on eBay, so you have to make sure you know who it is certified by and if they are reputable. 3 of the major names in the certification business are PSA/DNA, UDA (Upper Deck Authentication), and Naxcom. Usually the reputable companies will place a holographic sticker (meaning if it's pulled off, the sticker will be destroyed so you can't get a real item signed and then transfer the sticker to a fake item) on both the item and the COA (certificate of authenticity), which matching numbers. They also have online databases where you can enter the number on the stickers and it will tell you what item that is supposed to be.

And on your item, you can always try to contact the seller (and if you paid by paypal, contact them) and tell them you know it's fake and therefore their description was lying when it said it was certified. Some sellers won't want the hassle and will just give you your money back.

DfishBack - I bought something that said "certified" but it didn't say by whom! Bought a signed pic of Kobe but sig doesn't look real. Oh well - you get what you pay for. I'd like to buy good stuff but at the mall it is ridiculously priced. I wanted to buy a Laker autographed jersey but not sure how much that is really worth and if the signatures are authentic.

greg - ebay is your best bet, you just have to know what you're doing. If you got ripped off on ebay, how so? Did they not send the item or was it wrong? If so, if you pay with paypal you can file a chargeback (and say whatever happened), and as low as paypal agrees with you (if you did get ripped off, they will), you get your money back.
