UPDATE: BSO holds firm, Lamar Odom To Resign With Lakers 4 years/40 Million?

This is just one source holding firm on its report. For what it’s worth, one website is reporting a 4 year/40 million dollar deal has been reached.

UPDATE: Once again sources close to Lamar Odom are insisting a deal is done and is just waiting for Dr. Buss to sign off on it.

There has been reports there is no deal on the table and there are no neogiations ongoing.

But there was in fact a 3 year deal worth 30 million that was turned down Odom recently.

The only hold up is will Dr. Buss sign off on 4 year deal or will Odom accept 3 year deal.

We will have to wait and see how it all shakes out, but I would be shocked if Lamar Odom is does not resign with the Lakers.

BSO: Sources close to the Lamar Odom have told BSO that Odom will resign with the Lakers.

Odom will sign a 4 year 40 million dollar contract to stay with the champs.

The change of heart came after Lamar reached out with to Dr. Jerry Buss. The two of them had a close door meeting in Las Vegas yesterday where they were able to reach an agreement.

Remember where you heard it first.

As more details come in we will be the first to update you.

i disagree with this being expensive..lamar is worth this money, at least to us he is

  10. Pastorius says:

I believe this rumor. It’s rational. The Lakers were a better team with Odom in the lineup than they were without him in the lineup. Buss knows it.

I also believe this is, likely, a face-saving move, and a rational compromise for both of them. I bet the fourth year is not guaranteed, but that there is a buyout in the range of $3.5-5 million.

By the way, as I understand it, the Odom signing does NOT contribute to the Lakers salary cap problems. Buss will NOT have to pay luxury tax on the Odom contract.

Odom’s contract falls under what is known as the “Bird Exemption” whereby teams can keep star players who have been with the team longer than three years by matching any offer any other team had put out. The Heat were offering Odom $35 million guaranteed. The Lakers previous offer was for $30 million guaranteed.

That’s why I predict the fourth year team option with a buyout of about $5 million.

    Yes this is greeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaattttt news.

  16. ceballos_neverforget says:

Way over-paid…let’s cripple our cap flexibility even further with this ridiculous signing.

The next closest suitor was offering a mid-level exception (almost half of what we paid). Stay strong Buss and stick to your initial 7 or 8 mil offer!

  17. Pastorius says:

    From Wikipedia:

    Larry Bird exception
Perhaps the most well-known of the NBA’s salary cap exceptions, it is so named because the Boston Celtics were the first team permitted to exceed the salary cap to re-sign one of their own players (in that case, Larry Bird). Free agents who qualify for this exception are called “qualifying veteran free agents” or “Bird Free Agents” in the CBA, and this exception falls under the auspices of the Veteran Free Agent exception. In essence, the Larry Bird exception allows teams to exceed the salary cap to re-sign their own free agents, at an amount up to the maximum salary. To qualify as a Bird free agent, a player must have played three seasons without being waived or changing teams as a free agent. This means a player can obtain “Bird rights” by playing under three one-year contracts, a single contract of at least three years, or any combination thereof. It also means that when a player is traded, his Bird rights are traded with him, and his new team can use the Bird exception to re-sign him. Bird-exception contracts can be up to six years in length.

It’s about time. I feel like I have been held hostage by this story! $40mil not bad Odom, maybe you knew what you were doing the whole time!!

  19. Rey-Rey says:

BSO is pretty damn reliable. He knows a lot of these media-types.

  20. Shane Bien says:

From the author of the article:

“Source was in Las Vegas when Odom was meeting with Buss.
I knew yesterday. Waited for more concrete stuff today which I got.
    It is a done deal”

BOUGHT F’IN TIME!….I THINK ITS A GOOD SOURCE!…HE WONT BLAST HIS OWN SITE LIKE THAT BRO!…

  22. Ken G says:

Versatile but inconsistent, terrible on defense and a soft player. He only showed up big on some of the games in the Denver and Orlando series.
Odom was lucky for the lack of choices in the free agent market. Overpayed!!!

  23. BrettW says:

f’in finally!! Man, bring on next season!!!

  24. Gino says:

    heck to yeah!

  25. Gino says:

whoops i meant to say hell to the yes!

  26. FINALLY ITS OVER NOW I CAN ENJOYED MY WORKOUT LATER ON GO LAKERS PEACE!!!

  27. WifelovesLuke says:

Did someone just quote wikipedia? Not the most reliable source in the world.

Not real surprised by this news. I think deep down inside we all knew this would get done. It is the most logical move for all party’s concerned.

Moving forward: with LO, bring on the ring!!!

  28. JROME says:

    WTF!

Whatever happens i just hope it favors the LAKERS TEAM! Not ODOM…well overpaid… but hey if he shows up this season and post season plus finals its well deserved…

  29. Michael_23 says:

remove the question mark (?) on the title and we’re good to go!

  30. Mess Williams says:

This is great..and it is all Odom wanted in the first place waz to secure his future…He is definately worth that contract…and under the Larry Bird free agent rule…it works out perfectly for Buss and the Lakers because it doesn’t put them in the deep in the Luxury tax threshold…veerrryyy Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! Go Lakers baby!!!!!!!!!! We doin it again…and again…and AGAIN!

  31. WatWudChickSay? (WWCS) says:

[Comment ID #80625 Will Be Quoted Here]

    True.

If he can play hard in 2/3’s of the regular season games and produce 2 good games per playoff series, then the Lakers got a good deal.

I just hope that 4th year is an option year for the team because as mildly pleased as I am to see LO back, we all know how “spacey” he can be.

  32. purple and gold for life says:

On the business side of things I am glad he got paid his money.

BUT! for him to stall this long then he must feel that he is worth the money. I hope that makes a difference in his inconsistency and he BETTER NOT MISS ANYMORE OF THOSE WEAK LEFT HANDED LAYUPS! welcome back!…lol

btw..i was worried there for a moment. JERK!

  33. ceballos_neverforget says:

    Actually Mess Williams,

The bird rights exception is EXACTLY why the tax threshold was put in place. The lakers, and other contenders have wildly exceeded the cap threshold, so the league has tried to discourage this(with little success) by taxing dollar-for-dollar for every dollar spent that is over the cap, and the tax threshold limit. So this contract actually puts them BIG TIME past the luxury tax threshold.

Does anyone really believe this is a fair amount for Buss to be ponying up for LO? I’ll reiterate my earlier comment, the next closest suitor(miami) wasnt even offering him 6 million a year, and portland dropped out.

Unless he bl*w Buss, there’s no way he should be paid this much!

  34. Drake Hunter says:

$10 million a year? Overpaid? Who cares its not our money! Odom signs and that’s all that matters. We won’t need money to do anything else because the team is set. We can always trade Ammo and his 5 million expiring contract. In any case the Lakers now own the NBA. Unless they team Wade, Lebron, and D-Howard on the same team, no ones gonna beat the Lakers the next 3 years!

  35. LakersFirst says:

If this is indeed true, then no one, and I MEAN NO ONE in here, should EVER, EVER, EVER talk sh*t about the Lakers front office or Jerry Buss.

If this is true, then the Laker organization has stepped up big time. It’s up to the players now to bring home #16.

  36. JFK-analysis-at-TLN says:

    overpaid but that cool….lakers repeat..
    LA forever..
    finally no more DRAMA

  37. LakerFanThinkinReal says:

LAKERS!!!!!!!!!This shows how much the Buss family wants to win!!! Regardless, of how much they pay him or others.. some earn it and others don’t; but at the end of the day, the team competes because Dr. Buss is a stud!! I can’t wait to play The Celtics, Cavs and San Antonio!!! oh! and Orlando!! Bring it!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. kobe124 says:

It’s 100% true, He did sign with the Lakers again!

  39. Mess Williams says:

ceballos_neverforget , The fact that Odom waz offered a contract by the heat is the very reason that L.O.’s Contract is not affecting the lakers threshold problems at all…they are in no deeper than they alreadii were in the first place with Odom’s contract…with the Bird exempt they were able to match Odom’s offer by them and that contract iz NOW not directly effecting their Luxury tax woes…I understand what you are saying…but I also understand what the Lakers were doing too…they wouldn’t offer more until Odom waz made an offer by another team…Great move Buss, Kupcake!

  40. WeLoveIt says:

    Hells to the yeah!!!!

  42. Drake Hunter says:

How come Yahoo Sports, CBS Sports, FoxSports News, ESPN, ESPN News, or any other sports station is reporting this news. CBS Sports was the first to break the news of Ron Artest signing with the Lakers and within 20 minutes, ESPN and FoxSports was all over it. Lamar resigning is big for the Lakers and yet no reports other than this quote with a question mark? It may be true but I’ll wait til it’s official.

  47. TRUTH says:

NO NO NO NO that is way too much money, look wat is happening, bad decision!

  48. MR JUAN_YOUR WARLOCK says:

4 fully guaranteed years @ $10 Mil? …Hard to believe! …Would be overpaid!
…Maybe 3 years guaranteed at 10 Mil, but, with a team optional buyout of about $3 Mil in the 4th year! …This would give LO an opportunity to seek new employment (possibly MLE) with a different team and make up the difference!

  49. Drake Hunter says:

The Lakersnation.com is now no longer my first source for Laker news!!

All they do is post false information and rumors and things that they hear or think is going on to play with the minds of Laker Fans.

Chris Manning, when you read this, you can KISS MY AZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All your posts that you put on this website are bogus and
    B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T!!!!!!

  50. bhpreppy says:

I agree with Drake…WTF is BSO? Is that even a credible source? How about I make my own site and claim Lebron is signing for the MLE next year…this is just garbage.

  51. Willmo says:

Just got an e-mail from Eric Pincus and he said that this is a false rumour, but that they are very close to finalizing something. At least he’s a reliable source as he covers the Lakers for hoopsworld.com.

  52. bhpreppy says:

You know what…Manning and that Persian turd should have their credentials taken away…..both are a disgrace to the “Lakernation.” Plus, one of you should do us all a justice and put “Nugget” on a 600 cal/day diet, that man is going to blow soon.

  53. we-need-sheed says:

Who cares about Lamar Odom. He’s a punk. We should of have added Sheed to the team. Sheed would of have given us a chance to win 4 or 5 titles. Oh well.

  54. Jim says:

I’ve been listening to 710 ESPN radio all afternoon, and they don’t seem to be privy to this information. John Ireland was talking like he didn’t think Buss would be willing to offer 10 million a year to Lamar again. I sure hope this rumor is true, I’d hate to go into the season without LO on the roster.

  66. lakerman1 says:

John Ireland is a much more credible source. According to Ireland Lamar’s agent thought 3yrs/30mil was a very good offer. Too much is being put into Lamar’s worth especially when his market value is 6-7 mil year anywhere else. I say let him go because i am tired of all this lets resign Luke, lets resign Sasha and now lets resign Lamar at any cost mumbo jumbo. Lamar was offered a fair deal and its on him if he did not take it. Was’nt he the one early in the season that said he wanted retire with the Lakers. This story is very old and tired. I am going to pull for the Lakers regardless of who suits up.

  67. MR JUAN_YOUR WARLOCK says:

Why would any body listen to the “bull” that cleavlander Ric Buchiter has to say! …Cleaveland!!!!!

DR. BUSS HAS BEEN IN HAWAII FOR DAYS!

  94. taxwinter says:

  95. BlazeRoy7 says:

    LA native

  98. Jordan says:

I am the biggest die hard Laker fan you will ever meet, and I have to say I truely believe that the LO Laker era has come to a close. All signs point to him signing in Miami and all I can say is good riddance. If this moron wants to go back to a team that traded him once already then so be it. He was a marginal player before coming to LA. He had all the potential in the world but couldnt capitalize on it. He was not even the one Kupcheck originally wanted in the Miami deal. The Heat waived Caron Butler in LA’s face and they snagged it. The only reason Butler was traded and not Odom is because Phil took over at the helm after LO’s first season in LA and wanted a longer 3/4 and Devin George already new the triangle offense. I say goodbye to you Mr.Odom, you have truely shocked me on this one. As long as the Lakers have Kobe, they will be fine. #24 still has a team around him and thats it, thats all they need. If Odom does indeed sign with Miami, Kupcheck should immediatly turn his attention to Hakim Warrick. It wouldnt be all that bad.
