Report: Gasol may be out a while
We’ll have to hold the fort down, without Pau, at least for a while…
ESPN: The Los Angeles Lakers are cruising without their gimpy big man, and they might have to limp along longer than expected.
Lakers coach Phil Jackson said that Pau Gasol, who is trying to rehabilitate a sore hamstring, might not return until Christmas, the Los Angeles Daily News reported on Wednesday.
“I find that hard to believe, that it’s gone backwards. … Right now, he’s capable of doing only so much and nothing else,” Jackson said, according to the newspaper. “But it is mysterious, no doubt about it.”
The defending champion Lakers are 6-1, and Gasol is expected to miss his eighth straight game when Los Angeles hosts Phoenix on Thursday.
Asked if he knew when Gasol would practice or if he had a target date for his return, Jackson said: “No. We’re starting to look toward Christmas, though. Some time out there.”
The Spanish forward missed just one regular-season game last year and was the Lakers’ second-leading scorer while averaging 18.9 points, a team-leading 9.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
Jackson was asked why Gasol’s injury is mysterious.
“Yeah, because with most hamstrings you see bleeding or bruises or holes in the hamstring,” the coach said. “His has been one of those things wasn’t a big concern to us, but has turned into a month-long injury.”

No Worries !!!!! We have Mbenga!!!!!!
You are right. The way he has been playing sure has dazzled me. He is proving to be more than just a bench player, this man is so good at blocking shots that its not funny.
Only thing that bothers me with him is his catch and shooting. I mean his shot isnt perfect so he has to play in the post but he extends to the free throw line extended. He is a centre, rebound, pass, dunk, nothing more.
This is just Phil being Phil he probably said Christmas because he’s sick and tired of reporters asking when Pau is going to be back so he just said Christmas give it another week or 2 and Pau will be back
shyt fuck mother crap piece of no good son of a biatch…WHY????????????????????……..I guess we shouldn’t panic
LMAO!!
Uh, um, oh, no.
I am starting to worry that this is really not a hamstring problem. No way a strained hamstring heals this slowly or goes backwards. A torn hammy, maybe, but not a strain/sprain.
But, like Phil said, with a tear (and I’ve had one), you get a lot of bleeding and your upper leg turns into one big bruise: purple and black.
I assume they have MRI’d this as well as looked at his lower back to make sure its not a nerve issue stemming from a disk problem.
he is NOT going to be out till x-mas, on espn they confirmed during the phoenix suns game that PHIL JACKSON WAS BEING SARCASTIC, A LAKERS SPOKESPERSON CONFIRMED THAT JACKSON WAS JOKING AND THAT HE WILL RETURN IN THE NEXT 1 – 2 WEEKS. SO DONT WORRY HES NOT OUT TILL X-MAS .
How did BSPN confirm during the Phoenix game? They haven’t played yet! JK
Phil being Phil
1-2-3 Ring!!!
IT WAS A JOKE PHIL SAID.
yeah, i just saw the interview, phil was being sarcastic, i think it was a way to say to just wait another week or two, pau didnt seem that concerned, he just said he was going to make sure he was 100% healthy when he comes back
It’s a concern, no doubt. I am, however, not too worried about it because as long as we can at least get Drew back healthy and we still have Kobe, Ron, and Lamar; we should be able to hold the fort for a while. As long as Pau can get healthy and return in a timely manner, we should be fine.
As long as DJ, Josh, and Shannon continue to play like they did vs Hornets we should be good. We still got Fish, Farmar and Luke that can contribute too so as long as we keep our focus, play hard, and we have KB24, we will always have a chance.
We need Gasol back ON Christmas Day. Lebron and the Cavs will be visiting and we need to show them what our full team can do to theirs.
For those unfamiliar with PJs tongue in cheek style, he clarifies:

I heard earlier today that phil was just kidding about the christmas thing
This site’s delayed and then incorrect reporting is starting to get on my nerves.
In addition, did this site hire only writers who do not know how to write. Hire a damn editor!!!
At the very least….spell check. LOL
Pau said he was at 60 per cent and at a 100 per cent there was pain. Phil said that he wanted a 100 per cent.
The west is not that tough. Portland is still young and cant win big games. Denver is better but melo is still
a choke in big games.
We have Kobe and Bynum and Ron has not played well yet. Plus la mar is awsome. no worries
Pau will be back healthy and ready to get after boston
As long as we have Bynum in the mix it will be smooth sailing.
