Created in the summer of 2007, The Lakers Nation has grown into one of the largest sports fan base sites on the web. We’re committed to bringing Lakers fans up to the minute news as it breaks and keeping them updated with the latest in the (always busy) world of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers Nation also provides fans with original articles from our great writing staff.
Continuing to build on a strong community is a priority. We do our best to keep Lakers fans all around connected and in the loop. TLN launched “The Nation” in March 2008, a Lakers based social-networking site that brings fans from all around the world together.
In one of the most exciting times for our website, in June of 2008, the Lakers Nation officially teamed up with AM570, the flagship station of our Los Angeles Lakers, to bring you complete Lakers coverage. AM570 had this to say about the new partnership, “AM 570 KLAC is excited to be teaming up with The Lakers Nation to provide Lakers fans with the most current, expansive coverage of the Lakers available.”
How we came to be…
The Lakers Nation began as GetGarnett.com, a site dedicated to bringing Kevin Garnett to the Lakers in the off-season of 2007. The site had very similar structure, keeping Lakers fans updated while putting pressure on Lakers management to make a move for the All-Star by riling up fans. The site was a success (in a way) ! Within days of opening, the site was mentioned on multiple TV and radio stations in Los Angeles and across the nation. During mid off-season, trade talks started to heat up and GetGarnett received much praise for possibly being the force that almost brought the All-Star to Los Angeles.
It wasn’t meant to be. Kevin Garnett was traded to Boston and Lakers fans were left furious. What happens to GetGarnett.com? We weren’t prepared to let go of our strong community of Lakers fans by shutting down and walking away with our heads down. On August 15th 2007, GetGarnett made the transition to The Lakers Nation. We’re thankful for the loyal Lakers fans that stuck with the site throughout all the changes, we did it as smoothly as possible
What to look forward to…
Like previously mentioned, we’re always looking to expand. The Lakers Nation is fueled by Lakers fans. We always have projects and idea we’re working on to improve the site, not all of them end up being used, but we’re on it. We appreciate all ideas and suggestions. We do our best to make sure fans are always “in the know” when it comes to the latest in LakerLand. We look forward to expanding in the near future and of course the success of our Los Angeles Lakers… that is why we’re all on here, right?
