2nd Look: Kobe beats the Bucks!

Wonder what it sounded like on the Bucks broadcast? This is great! Mamba, Mamba, Mamba!

Here is the Lakers broadcast call…

Pau Gasol wants more touches

90041264MM_MAGIC_JAZZ_014L.A. Times: Losses don’t happen often to the Lakers, but there’s often something interesting to come out of them.

After their 102-94 defeat Saturday against the Utah Jazz, forward Pau Gasol wanted more touches.

He made a plea for more action in the post after being asked how it felt to collect 20 rebounds for a second consecutive game.

“I’m just being active, pursuing the ball,” he said. “I don’t get many looks offensively, so I’ve got to get my offensive rebounds. Otherwise, I’ll get five shots during the game. I’m trying to get my looks there, and I work hard and stay active and do what I can.”

Good thing for him that he’s rebounding a lot.

Gasol’s back-to-back rebounding efforts made him only the third Lakers player in the last 14 years to take 20-plus rebounds in consecutive games, joining Lamar Odom and Vlade Divac.

Jazz end Lakers’ streak

90041264MM_MAGIC_JAZZ_018Yahoo! Sports: Deron Williams scored eight straight points to start the fourth quarter and finished with 21 points and 11 assists to help the Utah Jazz end the Lakers’ 11-game winning streak by beating Los Angeles 102-94 Saturday night.

Utah took advantage as Kobe Bryant struggled with a fractured index finger from a game the night before. The Jazz held Bryant to 16 points on 7 of 24 shooting. Bryant didn’t score in the second half until less than five minutes remained in the game and Utah already up by 15.

The Jazz also avenged a loss to the Lakers in Los Angeles on Wednesday, when Utah scored just six points in the fourth quarter.

Nike and Kobe introduce new Nike Zoom Kobe V

This one is for all you sneaker heads. As Kobe gets older, his shoes seem to get lower. Feels like he’s using his utilities to help slow down his ageing — little Bruce Wayne like. Have a feeling the Zoom Kobe X’s will likely just be barefoot with a Nike sticker slapped on the side of his foot. Shoes look great though!

Kobe_V_stage_12.09High Snobiety: Nike and Kobe Bryant today introduced the Zoom Kobe V, Nike’s lightest basketball shoe ever, at a global media event held at The L.A. Forum in Los Angeles. Rising to Bryant’s challenge of making his signature sneaker even lighter and lower than the previous iteration, Nike Performance Footwear Creative Director Eric Avar came up with a 10.6 ounce low-cut performance shoe – one ounce lighter than the Nike Zoom Kobe IV.

The initial inspiration for Kobe’s low-profile shoe came from an unexpected place: the soccer field. “I watch a lot of soccer and have seen how the best footballers in the world make sharp cuts at top speed in lightweight, low-cut footwear,” Bryant said. “The demands they make on their feet and ankles aren’t that different from what I’m doing on the court, yet nobody assumes they should play in high tops.”

Aesthetically, the Nike Zoom Kobe V, incorporates aspects of Bryant’s game and personality into details such as a heartbeat traction pattern (for the heart, passion and self-described “maniacal will” Bryant brings to the court) and a dot-matrix symbol on the front edge of the outsole, representing a codified language sequence. +Continue Reading

“Hot” Rod Hundley to fill in for Stu Lantz; Walton to fill in for Mychal Thompson

1160500Here’s some interesting news on a Lakers broadcasting front; long time former Utah Jazz commentator, “Hot” Rod Hundley will be filling in on the TV broadcast for Stu Lantz, who will be missing a six game stretch while his wife recovers from surgery.

Hot Rod, retired from the booth last season, he’s commonly regarded as the “Voice of the Jazz”, whom the Lakers will be (ironically enough) playing tomorrow. Hundley, 75, has deep Lakers roots, playing six season with us. He started his broadcasting career along side Chick Hearn. A legend being the mic, Hundley called over 3,000 for the Jazz. TLN readers might remember Hundley from our Podcast.

For those who listen to the radio broadcast, Mychal Thompson will be missing two games, Friday against Minnesota and Saturday at Utah due to the unfortunate death in the family. Luke Walton will be replacing M.T. alongside Spero Dedes. You probably went back and re-read that. No typo there, we didn’t mean Bill Walton and not someone else coincidentally named Luke Walton. Make sure to hear our injured small forward in what could be on the job training for his post-player basketball career. Way to put people on the payroll to work! If he’s anything like his father, it could be the greatest commentating job in the history of Western civilization

On behalf of TheLakersNation.com and Lakers fans accross the world, we would like to wish Mrs. Lantz a speedy recovery and send our condolences to the Thompson family.

Video: A Finish To Remember

Safe to say that we’ll all be buzzing about this game for the rest of the season.

Happy Thanksgiving from The Lakers Nation!

We here at the Lakers Nation would like to wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving. Wish we could all get together as one big Lakers family and eat turkey, with the Larry O’Brien trophy as the tables centerpiece — but that seems a little out of reach. Hope you have a great day discussing Lakers basketball with your family, whom you’d otherwise have nothing else to talk about.

Q. & A. With Kobe Bryant

90041010AB005_KNICKS_LAKERSNew York Times: The Los Angeles Lakers’ forward Kobe Bryant talked to Jonathan Abrams of The Times. Here is a transcript of the interview.

Q. Does a player have to evolve his game to remain relevant and what has the process been like for you?
A. KOBE BRYANT: They’re all one in the same. It’s just working, enjoying what I do. I think I’m really fortunate because I really love what I do. They’re players who do it because they’re good at it or use it as a means just to provide or accolades or adoration. That’s a different kind of motivation. When you do something that you truly, truly love doing, you find yourself wanting to do it all the time.
Q. Why did you start using Tim Grover, Michael Jordan’s former trainer?
A. I was just having some issues that I felt I could get better at, areas that I felt were weak that my previous training program wasn’t hitting on, so I wanted to get better. I had kind of plataued doing the other stuff. So I wanted to get better and improve, so I sought him out.
Q. What areas?
A. All kinds of areas. I won’t go into specific, but I just wanted to get better.
Q. Do you feel like you still have room to grow as a player?
A. I do. I do. I think there’s so much more to understand. A lot of it just has to do with winning. It has nothing to do with me as an individual. Just more so, how can I lead these guys? That’s kind of been the evolution as a basketball player. When you first come into the league, you’re trying to prove yourself as an individual, do things to assert yourself and establish yourself. But then once you’ve done that, there’s another level to the game that’s more complex than figuring out how to put up big numbers as an individual. That’s easy to do.
Q. Do you think your game has evolved since even two, three years ago?
A. Oh, without a doubt. A lot of that has to do with the team that I have because they allow me to explore those other areas of my game because they’re better basketball players, so that enables me to sit back and say, ‘OK, I don’t have to score 40 points a game to keep us competitive.’ I can start thinking the game more and thinking how can I use the pieces that I have here as opposed to thinking, ‘Damn, I’ve got to put my head down and go out there and try to beat two or three guys just to keep us in the game.’ So, I think they help me get to another level of understanding the game.”
