TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Heat

The Great Space Coaster!

Here’s a little “ditty” from 1981’s kid show I’m sure some of you will remember…

“It’s the Great Space Coaster. Get on board.
On the Great Space Coaster. We’ll explore.

A comet ride of fantasy
To a place where dreams are fast and free
With new friends and new things to see
We’ll spin you through the galaxy

On the Great Space Coaster. Oh-oh-oh.
On the Great Space Coaster. Off we go.

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Blazers

lalpor.jpg

Mack’s prediction, the Blazers will win in L.A.; Against the Clippers.

The Blazers, however, will not defeat the Lakers. Even their own center, Joel Przybilla, doesn’t have high hopes. When asked about playing against the Lakers he said, “They’ve maintained strong play throughout the year. We need to get some wins, and it would be a good one for us to start there, but we know it will be very hard to get that done.” He doesn’t sound too confident. Maybe he doesn’t think this time around the Blazers will win, but maybe next time they will.

Sorry Joel, probably not next time either.

Tonight’s match up is the first of four the Lakers have with the Blazers this season so it will be interesting to see how they play each other. Personally, I don’t think the Blazers have a chance. One reason is because their star player, SG Brandon Roy is out with a sprained ankle. Roy says he initially sprained it against Dallas on February 13th, but aggravated it midway through the third quarter in Sunday’s beat down against the “BAH-ston” Celtics. With the injury to Brandon Roy, Nate McMillan will be trying a new lineup, again helping the Lakers’ cause. He will be running with Martell Webster at the two and the up and coming Travis Outlaw taking over the 3.

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Sonics

Aliens vs. Turiaf?

I have to tell you, the Sonics surprised me with that last minute trade. When I say last minute, I mean it. At 2:59 pm on Thursday, the Sonics sent Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West to the Cleveland Cavs for Ira Newble and Donyell Marshall, with Adrian Griffin from the Bulls in a three team trade. This is after trading Kurt Thomas to San Antonio for Brent Barry, Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round pick. After all that, the Sonics released Brent Barry.

So who is going to play the Lakers tonight? All of them; my sources tell me that Sonics coach P.J. Carlisimo is going to send all these guys in to swipe at Kobe’s pinky in the first quarter – watch for it.

Who can blame P.J.? The Lakers have been practically unstoppable since their last loss at Atlanta during their 9 game road trip. They now sport a 7 game winning streak after trouncing their hometown rivals the Clippers Saturday night, 113 - 95.

Ridin’ High!

No, that’s not Snoop Dogg’s next single, that’s the Lakers Nation after Wednesday’s six-point victory over the newly “free-throw-crippled” Phoenix Suns. Today I was looking back at the highlights of that game. It was great to see that the Lakers had control of the contest for most of it. When Phoenix was manufacturing a run, our Kobe would shoot a trey or Gasol would drive to the rim; effectively killing it. It was truly, an awesome game.

My day, however, hit a road block. It all started while thinking about the play where Bell threw the ball to Shaquille in the paint and he turned and saw our lone defender in front of him: D.J. Mbenga. D.J. got immediately “posterized” like many of the players before him. Thinking about that brought me to this point…

The Showdown at Sundown!

WOOH! Get yourselves ready Lakers fans because this game is going to be HUGE! Shaquille “The Big Cactus” O’Neal will make his Suns debut against the Lakers tonight and I got to say – I’m excited! I know you’re excited! Whose not excited?

The other eight teams playing tomorrow… Why?

Because everyone’s going to be watching the Lakers – Phoenix rivalry kick it up a notch, baby, that’s why.

You all remember the last two playoff series between these two teams. Remember the Lakers surprise of 3 wins to 1 over the Suns a couple of years ago, then their collapse in game 7? How about the Raja bell “clothesline?” I recently heard that Raja’s move has been adopted into Kimbo Slice’s daily sparring routine.

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Hawks

My daughter is the Basketball Prophet.

I’m sitting on my couch watching the Lakers – Hawks game Wednesday, February 6th with my 4 year old daughter sitting next to me. Entering halftime I see the score is in the Laker’s favor 53-45.

My daughter says, “Papi, I think the Lakers are gonna lose”.

I look at her with betrayal clear on my face, “Why would you say that, hon?”

“Because the guys in white are faster”, she says.

Now, I love my daughter, but that day, she almost got sent to her room. We sat there and watched the game and I saw as the game progressed that the Hawks were running, A LOT! There were times where the Lakers would miss a shot and 4.5 seconds later, the Hawks were scoring. The announcer would say, “If the lakers don’t get back on defense, the Hawks just might take this one.”
