If you’re a constant reader of The Lakers Nation, you might find it hard to believe that there are other things happening on this earth besides the contract negotiations of Lamar Odom.
So in effort to cure this pandemic, I think it’s within our best interest to give you guys some news from around the league — and yes, even some Lakers news that has not made this site yet.
- Kobe Bryant continues on his journey to take over the world, starting with Asia.
- Remember when LeBron got dunked on by that Xaviar kid, and then he stole the tape, and then we never saw the tape? Well, TMZ has footage and they’ll be releasing it today. Ready to WITNESS?
- Mark Madsen getting traded back to the city of Los Angeles is by far the most underrated story of the off-season.
- Yao Ming’s surgery on left foot was successful.
- Starbury has to be the most entertaining and interesting man in the league… right up there with Delonte West. Check out a transcript of a live Q&A Marbury had.
- Orlando adds Matt Barnes and Brandon Bass — they’re improving, but missing three Finals starters.
- Mo Williams, jeri curl, soul glow. Picture.
- Best wishes to former Grizzlies guard, Antonio Burks, on a speedy recovery.
- Future Rapters star, DeMar DeRozen buys his first car with his new NBA income. It’s like watching a baby takes it’s first steps, awww…
- Recap of Lakers and Lamar Odom contract negotiation… I had to show you, sorry…
- Late addition: Hedo Turkoglu making a rap — you have to watch this.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled Lamar Odom coverage…

Well we haven’t had one of these in quite a while, but lets get this train rolling again and check out some of whats hot right now across the internet and NBA.
- On a random note, I would like nominate “Notorious” as Andrew Bynum’s new nickname. That is truly what he has been on so many levels. Makes too much sense.
- Do you look, sound, feel and act like NBA legend, Bill Walton? If so, this is the link for you!
- You guys remember Cheikh Samb, right? (He has a great 15 minute stint with us after we drafted him… come on, you remember!)
- Chris Paul not only erased a 157,063-vote deficit against Tracy McGrady in All-Star voting, but also ended up with a 456,000-vote lead over him in a 2 week span. David Stern caught with his hand in the cookie jar?
- The Machine has just opened his own official Myspace page for all of his adoring fans. Machine not get the memo? Myspace is so 2006.
- Lakers fans want TACOS! (Facebook — which is so ‘in’ right now.)
- Devon George: Shaq, Glen Rice, John Salley and Ron Harper, all those guys, taped me to the floor and just left me there. [Plus more Lakers pranks inside!]
- First look at the Rookie Challenge Jerseys.
- Kobe Bryant REALLY WANTS IT. [Nike ad]

Now with media day over, the Lakers starting regular practices and the first exhibition game around the corner, here are some small news bits all bunched together in this edition of Across The Nation.

Here’s a new addition to TLN where we’ll highlight some of the things that are going on, in or around our Lakers and NBA world.
- Kobe Bryant is apparently part of a celebrity ‘Emmy’ phone chain. Others in the chain include William Shatner, Rachel Ray, Regis, Martin Short and The Hoff.
- The Boston Celtics met with President Bush for the annual ‘champions visit to the White House’. I know what you’re thinking, “that should have been us.” Well, I guess we’ll just have to settle for a meeting with John McCain or Barack Obama in ‘09.
- Salim Stoudamire is now a Spur. Dare we counter this move by signing yet another guard?
- Well, apparently the Pistons are “excited” about Kwame Brown’s potential. Before we go on to mock them, please remember that most of us were as well, years ago. Many of us are actually excited about Lamar’s potential, nevermind that he’s been in the league for a decade.
- Andrew Bynum’s offical website got a makeover.
- PJ Brown has retired from the NBA. I’ll hold back from calling him a ring chaser — it would only make me should like a bitter Lakers fan… which I am.
- Chris Bosh and Baron Davis will face off in a ‘funny skit’ challenge. Knowing the skits both Bosh and Davis have done in the past, this should be good.
That’s all I have for you guys today. If you have anything intresting tidbits to send over, feel free to e-mail it to me.
