BREAKING NEWS: Kidd Trade Now Official

Well after all this anticipation, it looks like the deal is now officially, 100% complete…

RealGM: The New Jersey Nets have acquired guards Devin Harris, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager, center DeSagana DiopKeith Van Horn along with Dallas’ first round draft picks in 2008 and 2010, and cash considerations from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for guard Jason Kidd and forwards Antoine Wright and Malik Allen, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today.

“This trade provides us with immediate help, most notably with the acquisition of Devin Harris, who we consider one of the rising young point guards in the NBA,” said Thorn. “Harris’s numbers have improved each of his four years in the league, and we feel that he has a significant upside. This trade also will give us two future first round draft picks and will give us flexibility to improve our roster.”

” Jason Kidd has been the best player to wear a Nets uniform during my current tenure with the Nets,” added Thorn. “He was the toughest competitor with the fiercest will to win and he was the main component in the most successful period in the Nets NBA history. Jason is a first ballot Hall of Famer and the man most responsible for transforming the Nets into a high quality NBA team. We wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors.”

Kidd trade is risky business for Mavs

ESPN: The Lakers must be falling over with laughter by now.

In the wake of their acquisition of Pau Gasol — a trade that cost them nothing of value — two of their biggest rivals for Western Conference supremacy responded by dealing key pieces of their core for Eastern Conference legends in their mid-30s. First, of course, came Phoenix’s deal for Shaquille O’Neal last week, and now the Mavericks have jumped in with today’s close-to-completion deal for Jason Kidd.

This isn’t nearly as bad as the Shaq trade — let me get that out of the way up front. But it has the same whiff of panic to it, coming as it did after the Mavs suffered consecutive whippings at the hands of second-tier Eastern teams, and following Mark Cuban’s insistence that Dallas wouldn’t unload half its team for Kidd.

But that’s exactly what they’re about to do. Dallas is about to send Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, Devean George, Maurice Ager, cash and two first-round picks to New Jersey for Kidd, Antoine Wright, Malik Allen and a second-rounder. (Technically it would be two trades, with Wright for a No. 2 as a side deal in order to meet league roster requirements).

BREAKING NEWS: Former Laker blocks Kidd deal

Blockbuster deal is blocked by former Laker Devean George…

ESPN: With the New Jersey Nets poised to complete a blockbuster deal to send Jason Kidd back to Dallas on Wednesday night, Mavericks reserve forward Devean George has unexpectedly exercised his right to block the trade, according to NBA front-office sources.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the teams verbally agreed to the deal earlier Wednesday and were preparing to submit the trade for league approval when George informed the Mavericks that he wouldn’t consent to being included in the deal, which is his right based on a rare provision in his one-year contract. Sources told ESPN.com that the Mavericks and Nets on Wednesday reached an agreement in principle on a Kidd deal after talks had seemingly stalled last week, moving the teams to brink of completing the NBA’s third blockbuster deal of the month.

The deal — salvaged from talks on a three-way trade with Portland that developed and fizzled quickly two weeks ago — has Dallas sending 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse, the expiring contracts of center DeSagana Diop and George and guard Maurice Ager to New Jersey for Kidd and forward Malik Allen.

Sources say Dallas would also send the Nets the league-maximum $3 million, the Mavs’ first-round draft pick this June and a first-rounder in 2010.

Kidd wants out and wants out to title contender

Kidd wants out - no surprise. A new report claims he’ll sabotage future dealings with the Nets if he doesn’t get traded to a title team:

ESPN: Further, Kidd’s representatives are trying to steer him to one of his three preferred destinations: Dallas, Cleveland or the Los Angeles Lakers, and that is scaring off other teams with the goods to get him.

SLAM: According to published reports, Kidd’s agent is threatening to sabotage future dealings with the team if the Nets don’t trade his client to a title contender.

Chad Ford says Kidd wants L.A. or Dallas, from today’s chat

From Chad Ford’s ESPN chat from today:

ESPN: Mike: (Philly): After watching LBJ last night, how accurate is his statement that “winning a title is that simple if we get Kidd”. They would definetly come out of the East. LBJ is clearly the most dominant player in the NBA. Clearly.

SportsNation Chad Ford: Tell that to Boston and Detroit. Kidd would make a major difference in Cleveland. However, from what I understand, he really only wants to play in 1 of 2 places, LA or Dallas. Maybe LeBron can convince him otherwise. The problem is that the Cavs have zero assets to offer the Nets back. They have no young talent (Varejao can’t be traded this year) and only a few expiring contracts. Danny Ferry, when he signed Larry Hughes, Damon Jones and Ilgauskas, bet the farm on this group. They lack the flexibility to make a deal like that now.

Kidd Privately Tells His Friends He Wants To Be Dealt To Dallas

Kidd wants Dallas according to this report:

RealGM: Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that New Jersey Nets ‘ point guard Jason Kidd is privately telling his friends that he wants to be traded to the Dallas Mavericks .

Kidd has a total FIC of 709 this season and has posted an FIC per 40 minutes of 17.7 for New Jersey.

The Mavericks’ point guard Devin Harris, who is currently injured, has an FIC total of 376 and FIC per 40 minutes of 12.7 in 2007-08.

Lakers not Kidd-ing around?

Interesting trade offer the Lakers turned down to the Nets for Jason Kidd:

ESPN: I threw my proposal out to a few league executives Monday, and they said they’d make that deal in a heartbeat — if they were the Nets.

In fact, I’m told that earlier this season, the Nets offered Kidd to L.A. for Odom, Vujacic and Jordan Farmar, but the Lakers weren’t interested.

Breaking News: Jason Kidd asks for trade; NJ may grant it

Interesting report about Kidd wanting out… Also, check the “related links” for more reports. Should be interesting for New Jersey right now before the deadline. Do the Lakers pursue Kidd?

RealGM: New Jersey’s Star-Ledger has reported that Jason’s Kidd’s agent Jeff Schwartz has asked Nets’ President Rod Thorn to trade his client to a contender before February’s trade deadline. The information was received from several unnamed league sources.

The problems continue to add up for Thorn as trading Kidd will not be easy if he wants to get even close to equal value in return.

“Right now things are going very poorly for us,” Thorn told the Star-Ledger. “Historically, those are the times when you don’t get offered what you might consider fair deals. And sometimes you feel that maybe you should do something to do something, but those are the times you have to be very cognizant and careful about what the results of your actions might be.”
